Achieving low latency remains a challenge in today's industrial Internet of Things (IoT) applications, particularly if operated over wireless multi-hop networks. One idea that can distinctly reduce the multi-hop latency is the so-called cut-through forwarding, i.e., a node starts relaying a packet after it has only received a fraction of it by leveraging two radios. This paper proposes the novel concurrent wireless cut-through (CWCT) protocol based on a prototype design which combines two off-the- shelf IoT devices. To improve reliability and eliminate routing overhead, CWCT applies concurrent transmission and Golay error correction coding. Evaluation on a controlled topology and on a medium-size testbed shows the large reduction in latency of CWCT compared to Glossy and the high synchronicity of concurrent transmission. To further improve packet reliability, we need to reduce the out-of-band leakage.

Static spectrum allocation policies allied with the increasing demand for higher data rates stimulated the pursuit of alternative spectrum allocation strategies. In this context, Opportunistic Spectrum Access (OSA) has been considered an alternative to allow licensed portions of the spectrum to be shared with unlicensed users. OSA requires unlicensed users to identify unused portions of the spectrum for opportunistic access that minimizes possible interference with the licensed users. Accurate mechanisms to avoid interference and improve the spectrum usage is highly desirable. This work investigates the performance of a traditional Hidden Markov Model (HMM) predictor where the licensed traffic follows a Poisson distribution. The results show that, under the evaluated settings, traditional HMM predictor can improve spectrum usage up to 15% at the expense of a high rate (≈ 50%) of inaccurate forecasts of idle periods. Based on these results, this paper proposes two techniques to optimize prediction performance and reduce inaccurate forecasts rate. Using the proposed enhancements inaccurate forecasts rate was reduced to only 6%. An additional benefit was observed when reducing collision with the licensed user, that is an improvement in the amount of slots effectively used by the unlicensed users from 15% to 23%.

In this work, we study heuristic and randomized approaches for parallel jobs execution in high performance computing environments with heterogeneous resources. Traditional process of a job-flow scheduling implies many requirements for jobs execution criteria and priority and, thus, usually cannot be changed. However, special microscheduling heuristics may be used in such scenarios as a secondary optimization based on the primary scheduling procedure. Coordinated and randomized microscheduling approaches simulate different strategies for the whole job queue scheduling in order to select the most resource-efficient scenarios. Based on a conservative backfilling scheduling procedure we study how different resources allocation heuristics affect integral job-flow scheduling characteristics in a dedicated simulation environment.

Increasing number of vehicles is making congestion problem become more and more deteriorate. This problem could be alleviated by route planning which guides vehicles to routes with small traffic flows to get the shortest travel time. However, the existing route planning algorithms mostly focus on one single vehicle and overlook the coordination among vehicles. If all vehicles follow the same routing recommendation, a large traffic volume will flow into the same route and cause congestion on that route. That makes the routing method ineffective. To resolve this problem, a distributed cooperative routing algorithm (DCR) based on evolutionary game theory is proposed to coordinate vehicles. This method runs on roadside units (RSUs) with combination of edge computing and edge intelligence. A road network is built to evaluate the performance of proposed algorithm. The experiment results show that the proposed DCR algorithm balances the distribution of traffic flow and in the same time makes the total travel time from origin to destination smaller.

Applications like Big Data, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and even other Engineering and Scientific research requires a lot of computing power;making High-Performance computing (HPC) an important field. But access to Supercomputers is out of range from the majority. Nowadays Supercomputers are actually clusters of computers usually made-up of commodity hardware. Such clusters are called Beowulf Clusters. The history of which goes back to 1994 when NASA built a Supercomputer by creating a cluster of commodity hardware. In recent times a lot of effort has been done in making HPC Clusters of even single board computers (SBCs). Although the creation of clusters of commodity hardware is possible but is a cumbersome task. Moreover, the maintenance of such systems is also difficult and requires special expertise and time. The concept of cloud is to provide on-demand resources that can be services, platform or even infrastructure and this is done by sharing a big resource pool. Cloud computing has resolved problems like maintenance of hardware and requirement of having expertise in networking etc. An effort is made of bringing concepts from cloud computing to HPC in order to get benefits of cloud. The main target is to create a system which can develop a capability of providing computing power as a service which to further be referred to as Supercomputer as a service. A prototype was made using Raspberry Pi (RPi) 3B and 3B+ Single Board Computers. The reason for using RPi boards was increasing popularity of ARM processors in the field of HPC

Container-based Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and multi-site/multi-cluster service orchestration are a critical topic in the field of ICT infrastructure. Academia, Industry and Open Source projects are actively working on the technology. With the trends, Open Baton, an implementation of the ETSI NFV MANO Reference Architecture, started efforts to orchestrate network services over multiple Docker Swarm clusters. To achieve that, Open Baton would require an additional feature to configure an overlay networking over multiple swarm clusters, since Docker Swarm does not support multi-cluster service. In this paper, we discuss our design and implementation of the Multi-Swarm networking Helper in Open Baton, which configures an L2 overlay networking over multiple Docker Swarm clusters by leveraging on a third-party Docker networking driver.

Cloud computing is the technology of the modern era having invaluable features that convince enterprises to adopt. It provides opportunities to the enterprises to compete with their opponents, to facilitate their customers, and grow up their day to day business by reducing cost and infrastructure management burden. Regardless of the enormous features offered by cloud computing, enterprises generally hesitate to adopt it due to the physical inaccessibility and deployment of their intellectual properties to a location that is unknown to them. On the other hand, the cyber-criminals sniffing around to find the loopholes to breach in, and compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the resources managed by Cloud Service Provider (CSP). The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Cloud Systems (CPCS) where the data is processed and stored in the cloud environment, demands the need to tighten up the security of the cloud itself. Identifying and tracing the source of a cyber-attack plays an integral role in the investigation process. Digital forensics in the cloud termed Cloud Forensics which boosts the confidence of the stack holders by reconstructing the past cloud events to give a hypothetical view of the crime scene and describe how the malicious activity had happened? The collection of evidence especially in the cloud environment is the most complex task due to its scattered architecture. Moreover, the collected evidence was used for the investigation to shield the cloud environment from a future security breach and bring the cybercriminal to the court of justice. In this paper, we have presented an analysis of cloud forensics techniques and their practical challenges/limitations to cope with cloud forensic investigators.

Nowadays, smart mobile devices generate huge amounts of data in all sorts of gatherings. Much of that data has localized and ephemeral interest, but can be of great use if shared among co-located devices. However, these devices often experience poor connectivity, leading to availability issues if applications' storage and logic are fully delegated to a remote cloud infrastructure. In turn, the edge computing paradigm pushes computations and storage beyond the data center, closer to end-user devices where data is generated and consumed. Thus, enabling the execution of certain components of edge-enabled systems directly and cooperatively on edge devices. In this paper, we address the challenge of supporting reliable and efficient data storage and dissemination among co-located wireless mobile devices without resorting to centralized services or network infrastructures. We propose Thyme, a novel time-aware reactive data storage system for wireless edge networks, that exploits synergies between the storage substrate and the publish/subscribe paradigm. We present the design of Thyme and evaluate it through simulation, characterizing the scenarios best suited for its use. The evaluation shows that Thyme allows for reliable notification and retrieval of relevant data with low overhead and latency.

The Steiner tree problem is a classical and fundamental problem in combinatorial optimization. The best known deterministic distributed algorithm for the Steiner tree problem in the CONGEST model was proposed by Lenzen and Patt-Shamir [25] that constructs a Steiner tree whose cost is optimal upto a factor of 2 and the round complexity is (O) over tilde (S + root min{St, n}) for a graph of n nodes and t terminals, where S is the shortest path diameter of the graph. Note here that the (O) over tilde(center dot) notation hides polylogarithmic factors in n. In this paper we present a simple deterministic distributed algorithm for constructing a Steiner tree in the CONGEST model with an approximation factor 2(1 - 1/l) of the optimal where l is the number of terminal leaf nodes in the optimal Steiner tree. The round complexity of our algorithm is O(S + root n log* n) and the message complexity is O(Delta(n - t)S + n(3/2)), where. is the maximum degree of a vertex in the graph. Our algorithm is based on the computation of a sub-graph called the shortest path forest for which we present a separate deterministic distributed algorithm with round and message complexities of O(S) and O(Delta(n - t)S) respectively.
