In the era of cloud computing, Content Providers (CPs) rent various resources, e.g., computing, storage, and network bandwidth, from Cloud Service Provider (CSP) to deploy their globally distributed services. Since multiple CPs may provide the same services and compete with each other to maximize their revenue, the business policies they adopt become very important, especially when the budget of each CP is limited and different. However, it is difficult to capture the competition characteristics and to find the optimal business policies of the CPs. In this paper, we investigate the business policies of competitive CPs, where each CP aims to maximize its revenue by optimally allocating its limited budget to resources including storage and bandwidth. First, we formulate the competition between the CPs as a Colonel Blotto game with elastic payoffs, in which the payoff of each region varies with the budget allocated to it. Then, we prove that its Nash Equilibriums are the optimal budget allocation policies for the CPs. We validate our method with real-world CPs and CSP's statistics. The results show that storage plays a key role in maximizing the revenue of the CP. It is also suggested that the CPs with less budget should concentrate their budget resource on a few specific regions.

Technological progress in recent years has allowed the design of new intelligent learning systems in smart environments aiming to facilitate users' lives. As a consequence, besides making use of traditional sensors for monitoring the quantities of interest, such systems can also benefit from information obtained from the users' smart devices, which can now be considered as additional sensing tools. In this article, we present the design of a novel system based on the fog computing paradigm that can improve the services offered to users on a smart campus by using different smart devices, i.e., smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, smartcameras and so on. In particular, we will describe a system in which several smart devices will collect sensory and context information, whilst the cloud will aggregate and analyze this data to extract information of particular interest. The main challenge of this project is to create an intelligent platform that allows new software modules to be added without having to re-design the entire architecture, and that can provide new services to campus users or improve existing ones.

Fog computing which extends the cloud computing paradigm to the edge of the network provides great opportunities for applications with stringent latency requirement. How to allocate the limited caching resources of Fog Nodes (FNs) influences the performance of the fog computing system. In contrast to previous works on caching resource allocation with users' utility as the only consideration, we propose OptCaching which jointly optimize the utility of all network participants including Content Provider (CP), Internet Service Provider (ISP) and users. With caching incentive introduced, utility functions of these three roles are defined. Our joint utility optimization caching scheme is conducted in two stages combining global and local decision making. Firstly, interaction between CP and ISP is modeled as a non-cooperative hierarchy Stackelberg game to make decision on incentive caching prices and global caching amount aiming at optimizing the utility of all network participants. Secondly, for the purpose of further optimizing the utility of users, a belief propagation based cache placement algorithm which utilizes global caching amount constraint and local information is conducted by FNs to reduce users' average download delay. Mathematical analysis and simulation results show that the utility of CP, ISP and users are jointly optimized at Stackelberg equilibrium. The utility of users is further optimized by belief propagation based cache placement algorithm with users' average download delay reduced by 33.7% compared with global popularity based caching strategy.

The utilization of the networks in education system has become increasingly widespread in recent years. WebRTC has been one of the hottest topics recently when it comes to Web technologies for distributed systems as it enables peer-to-peer (P2P) connectivity between machines with higher reliability and better scalability without the overhead of resource management. In this paper, we propose a browser based, asynchronous framework of a P2P network using distributed, lookup protocol (Chord), NodeJS and RTCDataChannel;which is scalable and lightweight. The design combines the advantages of P2P networks for better and sophisticated education delivery. The framework will facilitate students to share course content and discuss with fellow students without requiring any centralized infrastructure support.

OpenFlow has been the main standard protocol of software defined networking (SDN) since the launch of this new networking paradigm. It is a programmable network protocol that controls traffic flows among switches and routers regardless of their platforms. Its security relies on the optional implementation of Transport Layer Security (TLS) which has been proven vulnerable. The aim of this research was to develop a secured OpenFlow, so-called Secured-OF. A stateful firewall was used to store state information for further analysis. Dynamic Bayesian Network (DBN) was used to learn denial-of-service attack and distributed denial-of-service attack. It analyzes packet states to determine the nature of an attack and adds that piece of information to the flow table entry. The proposed Secured-OF model in Ryu controller was evaluated with several performance metrics. The analytical evaluation of the proposed Secured-OF scheme was performed on an emulated network. The results showed that the proposed Secured-OF scheme offers a high attack detection accuracy at 99.5%. In conclusion, it was able to improve the security of the OpenFlow controller dramatically with trivial performance degradation compared to an SDN with no security implementation.

We introduce a new problem in the domain of mobile robots, which we term dispersion. In this problem, n robots are placed in an n node graph arbitrarily and must coordinate with each other to reach a final configuration such that exactly one robot is at each node. We study this problem through the lenses of minimizing the memory required by each robot and of minimizing the number of rounds required to achieve dispersion. Dispersion is of interest due to its relationship to the problems of scattering on a graph, exploration using mobile robots, and load balancing on a graph. Additionally, dispersion has an immediate real world application due to its relationship to the problem of recharging electric cars, as each car can be considered a robot and recharging stations and the roads connecting them nodes and edges of a graph respectively. Since recharging is a costly affair relative to traveling, we want to distribute these cars amongst the various available recharge points where communication should be limited to car-to-car interactions. We provide lower bounds on both the memory required for robots to achieve dispersion and the minimum running time to achieve dispersion on any type of graph. We then analyze the trade-offs between time and memory for various types of graphs. We provide time optimal and memory optimal algorithms for several types of graphs and show the power of a little memory in terms of running time.

Named Data networking (NDN) is an instantiation of Content-Centric networking (CCN) that focuses on the limitation of the current working IP-based Internet architecture. Like any other networks, NDN suffers from many threats that include denial-of-service attack (DoS) or distributed Dos (DDoS). To exhaust the NDN router resources or content provider, DDoS attack can be triggered. This survey paper addresses the interest flooding attack that is one of the DDoS attack types in NDN which tries to overflow the Pending Interest Table of the NDN router and exponentially decreases the NDN router performance.

Web pages contain a large amount of valuable information and resources, meanwhile may update at any time. However, the current Web-data extraction algorithms are generally targeted at specific web page structure. When web pages update, the problem which is caused by the changes of web pages may be encountered, leading to the inability to extract web page information or wrong information. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a new method to extract the feature values of each area in the web page through page rendering, and then combine the DOM tree structure of the page, semantic similarity and other information, so that it can still extract the target data correctly after the structure of the web page changes.

Cloud computing is nowadays developed as a scalable and cost-effective technique. It facilitates many features in the computing environment like resource pooling, multi-tenancy, virtualization etc. In order to avoid resource maintenance, computing has been done on the service provider's infrastructure. Data security is the main concern in cloud computing because it is stored in data centers provided by service providers. DDoS attacks are rapidly growing in the cloud environment and have become a serious threat to cloud consumers. SDN is used to identify and prevent DDoS attacks in the cloud and it simplifies network complexity. In this paper, we have proposed a method that detects and mitigates DDoS attacks in cloud computing using the features of SDN with high accuracy and low computational cost. The proposed system is able to block the illegitimate users and allow only legitimate users to access the cloud services. The results are calculated by simulation experiments.
