Current Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology involves two types of physical devices: tags and reader. The reader combines in a single physical device transmission (to the tags) and reception (from the tags) functions. In this paper we discuss an alternative approach, where receive functions are performed by a separate device called "RFID listener". This allows distributed tag-sensing schemes where one transmitter coexists with multiple listeners. We discuss pros and cons of both approaches and present our implementation of a passive RFID listener on GNU Radio. Our implementation is a basis for experimenting with future distributed listener-based systems, but it can be also used as a cheap and flexible protocol analyzer for currently available commercial RFID readers.

The applications in Ubiquitous computing (UbiComp) environments must be aware of their contexts of interest and adapt to changes in them. Thus, a major research challenge in the area of UbiComp is related to context awareness. Considering the high distribution, heterogeneity, dynamism, and mobility of ubiquitous environments, this paper presents an architecture for context awareness, named UbiC (Ubiquitous Context awareness), which is integrated to EXEHDA middleware (Execution Environment for Highly distributed Applications). We consider that the main contribution of this work is an architecture that enables the acquisition, storage, and processing of context data, in a distributed way, independently of the application, in a rule-based autonomic perspective, and with support to mobility. To assess the functionalities of the UbiC architecture, we present a case study, highlighting prototypes developed, technologies employed, and tests realized.

Price rising of energy and the limitation of fossil fuel makes it an inevitable tendency to introduce distributed energy such as renewable energy to the existing supply system in the future. Different players, such as power generation, transmission, and distribution, along with the value chain must now cooperate and interact with each other by shared interfaces or eventually a customized network for secure and reliable delivery of energy. While smart grids are focusing on the informationization and intellectualization of the existing power grid, the new concept of an energy internet is proposed as an internet-style solution for energy issues by integrating information and power flows bi-directionally, which can be considered as the version 2.0 of smart grids. Some key features of an energy internet compared with conventional energy grid such as openness and peer-to-peer are introduced. Architecture of an energy internet is proposed in details, including energy storage, switches and routers. The definition of an energy internet call for a much greater degree of interactive flexibility for efficient energy management than the present system is designed to handle.

This paper describes the essential role of Knowledge Management (KM) in transforming Moroccan public administration, underlining the fusion of ethical leadership with the push for digital modernization. It showcases KM as a pivotal tool in dismantling bureaucratic barriers and facilitating digital transitions, thereby streamlining public service delivery. By analyzing existing KM frameworks relevant to the public sector, this research formulates a customized set of implementation guidelines tailored to the Moroccan context. These guidelines strategically integrate ethical governance with KM practices to overcome the unique challenges faced by the Moroccan public sector, aiming to enhance service efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness. The study progresses from reviewing significant KM literature to spotlighting key factors for successful KMS deployment, culminating in specific, actionable recommendations. This concise exploration contributes to the discourse on KM's capacity to revolutionize public administration, providing a blueprint for future research and practical applications within Morocco and potentially other similar contexts.

We present in this paper the design of a large distributed file storage system called Julunga for cloud computing environments. Julunga is designed for federated data center environments where multiple numbers of data centers across the globe interconnect to each other and present a coherent single system view to end-users. In Julunga, the metadata, the namespace and the data blocks of the files are completely distributed with no hard limits on the number of files that can be accommodated in a single directory. Also, there is no physical limit on the size of a file. Julunga supports file of exabytes size with ease along with the number of concurrent users updating, reading and writing to the same file or a directory. The location of the data blocks of a file is determined by using functions, thus expunging the need for file allocation tables. Many new data structures and algorithms were designed earlier where locality and preferences of users are considered to provide optimal storage locations for files and metadata. We elaborate, in this paper, the design of fundamental building blocks of the distributed storage system and compare it with the designs of the earlier file storage systems.

The CNG Manager interconnects virtual machines, acquired from distributed heterogeneous resources and multiple providers, using generic gateways according to user connectivity requests. The CNG Manager is integrated with a "Cloud Broker" architecture for evaluation in the multiple providers context. The adoption of new hardware and software architectures will make future generations of pervasive devices more flexible and extensible. Networks of computational nodes will be used to compose such systems. In these networks tasks will be delegated dynamically to different nodes (that may be either general purpose or specialized). Thus, a mechanism to verify the reliability of the nodes is required, especially when nodes are allowed to move in different networks. In this context, the reliability of nodes is determined by their ability to execute the tasks assigned to them with the promised performances. This paper proposes a protocol to evaluate the reliability of the different nodes in the network, thus providing a trusting mechanism among nodes which can also manage the soft/hard real-time constrains of task execution. Some simulation results are also shown to help describing the properties of the protocol.
