Since 2003, the continuously outbreaks of Influenza Virus in Asia has aroused considerable public concern. Qinghai Lake, as a main place where migrating birds propagate, also had the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus broken out. The reason for avian flu cross-species infection is unknown at the present. Aimed at wild bird epidemic monitoring (an application of Qinghai Lake E-science project), we present an approach, which is based on wavelet packet decomposition, clustering and classification, to identify whether an Avian influenza A virus has the ability to cross species infect human. We also developed an intuitive and easy to-use web interface to serve the scientists.

On the condition of scarce spectrum resources, the cognitive radio, as the next generation of radio technology, has incomparable superiority. Cooperative spectrum sensing cognitive radio has two kinds of systems: the centralized system and the distributed system. In this paper, we propose the centralized and the distributed spectrum sensing system models based on three users. The theoretical derivation and analysis about two models are conducted. Moreover, we simulate and compare the performance of two models. Simulation results show that when the report error probability is small, the overall performance of distributed spectrum sensing is superior to a centralized spectrum sensing, but the distributed cooperative spectrum sensing in the structure is more complex.

In this paper, we expose the results of an experimental study of acoustic properties of geminated consonants in Arabic language. We aim to determinate the temporal relationship between doubled consonant and the length of the vowel preceding them in a VCCV sequence. We compare these values with those measured for a VCV sequence. The results proved that the duration of simple consonant was sensibly different from the geminated one and same for the duration of the vowel preceding it. This work was undertaken to determinate the consonant duration characteristics to distinguish between a simple consonant and the geminated one in standard Arabic speech recognition.

The aim of this paper is to extract knowledge using predictive apriori and distributed grid based apriori algorithms for association rule mining. The paper presents the implementation of an association rules discovery data mining task using Grid technologies. A result of implementation with a comparison of classic apriori and distributed apriori is also discussed. distributed data mining systems provide an efficient use of multiple processors and databases to speed up the execution of data mining and enable data distribution. To evaluate the efficiency of the proposed system, performance analysis of apriori and predictive apriori algorithms on a centralized database have been given using weka tool. The main aim of grid computing is to give organizations and application developers the ability to create distributedcomputing environments that can utilize computing resources on demand. A new paradigm to design computer systems called evolving reconfigurable architecture (ERA) is proposed. Several holistic principles are introduced and pursued through the ERA design cycle. We show how reconfigurability is implemented at the level of hardware elements and system software structure. Two new models: (i) graph-logic and (ii) control-data-predicate are introduced and applied in the ERA. We propose a scheme to transform sequential programs for execution on ERA, we also show that ERA has exceptional flexibility and reconfigurability and fits embedded, high performance and safety critical applications. Finally, further progress of ERA is discussed.

In next generation systems and networks, the incorporation of mechanisms achieving robust, predictable and self-adaptive behavior with minimum cost will be a key requirement. Towards this goal we introduce the notion of the "self-growing network". The latter, in its initial deployment stage, is limited to a single dedicated purpose (energy-efficient networking, spectrum efficient communications, control and surveillance use, etc) but can evolve/grow into a multi-purpose, versatile infrastructure, that serves a broader range of applications by utilising combinations of self-x and cooperating features. The self-growing network paradigm considers (i) mechanisms for energy efficient interaction of the wireless network elements and (ii) mechanisms for the reliable and efficient evolvement towards later lifecycle phases. The Self-growing system incorporates the network(s) as well as user services and applications thus creating self-growing solutions applicable to wide range of purposes and impacting various beneficiaries, such as providers, consumers and end users.
