Internet traffic is experiencing an explosive growth, and online shopping is one of the significant drivers. However, alert network operators, unwilling to be dumb pipes, are making every effort to mine mass traffic with the help of Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) which is regarded as a big challenge especially for massive data when traditional methods and programming model are utilized. Hadoop provides an alternative approach with its strength in distributed storage and parallel computing. In this paper, a Hadoop based DPI system was reported, which was integrated with a web crawler. The system architecture and MapReduce models of packet analysis, web URL restoration were presented. As an example, live web traffic visiting the Tmall, the leading e-shopping giant in China, was specifically investigated using this system. Popularity of product, category and brand for a certain period was evaluated from page views of product. The detailed information of products was provided by the product information base built by the web crawler. This work explored the methodology of using Hadoop in DPI and presented valuable guidelines to develop such a system, which can be further used in analyzing other services and mining the value of network traffic by network operators.

When dealing with the Internet of Things (IoT), especially industrial IoT (IIoT), two manifest challenges leap to mind. First is the massive amount of data streaming to and from IoT devices, and second is the fast pace at which these systems must operate. distributed computing in the form of edge/cloud structure is a popular technique to overcome these two challenges. In this paper, we propose ADDAI (Anomaly Detection using distributed AI) that can easily span out geographically to cover a large number of IoT sources. Due to its distributed nature, it guarantees critical IIoT requirements such as high speed, robustness against a single point of failure, low communication overhead, privacy, and scalability. Through empirical proof, we show the communication cost is minimized, and the performance improves significantly while maintaining the privacy of raw data at the local layer. ADDAI provides predictions for new random samples with an average success rate of 98.4% while reducing the communication overhead by half compared with the traditional technique of offloading all the raw sensor data to the cloud.

In this paper we describe this new scenario for the radio occultation data processing, which is based to the use of distributed system architecture. In particular, we describe our approach based on using a grid computing system in order to decrease the calculation of RO time and to increase the flexibility and reliability of the system. We want to focus the attention of the reader on how we managed the parallelization of the entire jobs chain for the complete processing of radio occultation. We executed some statistical tests in order to evaluate the gain in performances and time obtained using the distributed architecture instead of a more standard non distributed architecture.

Service-oriented programming model is a new methodology for building service-oriented applications. In the service-oriented programming model, an application is assembled from loosely coupled, dynamically bounded services that mutually cooperate and compete in order to achieve the application 's goal. In this paper, we present our experiences with the service-oriented programming model attained through development and testing of access control system. The access control system is a service-oriented application that manages security in the virtual organizations. We indicate how service-oriented programming model facilitates run-time reconfiguration of the access control system. Further, we evaluate and compare the performance of several architectures of the access control system with different levels of parallelism and concurrency

Small talk is an important social lubricant that helps people, especially strangers, initiate conversations and make friends with each other in physical proximity. However, due to difficulties in quickly identifying significant topics of common interest, real-world small talk tends to be superficial. The mass popularity of mobile phones can help improve the effectiveness of small talk. In this paper, we present E-Small Talker, a distributed mobile communications system that facilitates social networking in physical proximity. It automatically discovers and suggests topics such as common interests for more significant conversations. We build on Bluetooth Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) to exchange potential topics by customizing service attributes to publish non-service-related information without establishing a connection. We propose a novel iterative Bloom filter (IBF) protocol that encodes topics to fit in SDP attributes and achieves a low false positive rate. We have implemented the system in Java ME for ease of deployment. Our experiments on real-world phones show that it is efficient enough at the system level to facilitate social interactions among strangers in physical proximity. To the best of our knowledge, E-Small Talker is the first distributed mobile system to achieve the same purpose.

The cloud system plays a versatile role in the storage of vast data for future references. In mobile ad hoc networks, due to the dynamic nature of ad hoc networks, many unicast and multicast protocols depend on broadcasting mechanism to finish control and route establishment functionality. A straightforward broadcasting, however, will be very inefficient and costly and easily result to the broadcast storm problem. In this paper, we propose the JDCT-C algorithm. It is a distributed algorithm and adopts cross-layer design. According to the receiving signal strength from the physical layer and neighboring nodes information from the network layer, it decides whether a node can retransmit the message or not without needing any global information and control messages and dynamically adapts the backoff defer in the MAC layer. The simulation experiments have demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed broadcast algorithm meanwhile the broadcast storm problem is significantly alleviated

Welcome to the proceedings of the 4th international Symposium on Parallel and distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA 2006), which was held in Sorrento, Italy, December, 4–6 2006. Parallel computing has become a mainstream research area in computer s- ence and the ISPA conference has become one of the premier forums for the p- sentation of new and exciting research on all aspects of parallel and distributed computing. We are pleased to present the proceedings for ISPA 2006, which comprises a collection of excellent technical papers and keynote speeches. The accepted papers cover a wide range of exciting topics including architectures, languages, algorithms, software, networking and applications. The conference continues to grow and this year a record total of 277 ma- scriptsweresubmitted *** submissions the Program Committee selected only 79 regular papers in the p- gram, which re?ects the acceptance rate as 28%. An additional 10 workshops complemented the outstanding paper sessions. The submission and review process worked as follows. Each submission was assigned to at least three Program Committee members for review. Each P- gram Committee member prepared a single review for each assigned paper or assigned a paper to an outside reviewer for review. In addition, the Program Chairs and Program Vice-Chairs read the papers when a con?icting review - sult occurred. Finally, after much discussion among the Program Chairs and ProgramVice-Chairs, based on the review scores, the ProgramChairs made the ?nal decision. Given the large number of submissions, each ProgramCommittee member was assigned roughly 7–12 papers.

Cloud computing is widely being adopted by many companies because it allows to maximize the utilization of resources. However, the complexity of cloud computing systems with the existence of many cloud providers makes infeasible for the end user the optimal or near-optimal resource provisioning and utilization, especially in presence of uncertainty of very dynamic and unpredictable environment. Hence, adaptive load balancing algorithms are a fundamental part of the research in cloud computing. We formulate the problem and propose an adaptive load balancing algorithm for distributed computer environments. We also discuss the energy efficiency of our solution for the domain of VoIP computations on federated clouds.
