Due to the decentralized nature and emergence of new practices, tools, and platforms, microservices have become one of the most widely spread software architectures in the modern software industry. Furthermore, the advancement of software packaging tools like Docker and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes enable developers and operation engineers to deploy and manage microservice applications more effectively and efficiently. However, establishing and managing microservice applications are still cumbersome due to the infrastructure configuration and array of disjoint tools that fail to understand the application's dynamic behavior. As a result, developers need to configure multiple tools and platforms to automate the deployment and monitoring process to provide the optimal deployment strategy for microservices. Even though many tools are available in the industry, the fully automated product which comprises deployment, monitoring, resiliency evaluation and optimization were not developed yet. In response to this issue, we propose an artificial intelligence (AI)-based centralized resource management tool, that provides an automated low latency container management, cluster metrics gathering, resiliency evaluation and optimal deployment strategy behave in dynamic nature. © 2022 IEEE.

During the pandemic, there has been a significant increase in the number of depression diagnoses. Meanwhile, the popularity of social media and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) has provided new perspectives for designing lightweight and effective early warning methods for depression. These methods utilize personality traits and emotional characteristics obtained from social media posts to analyze users’ mental states and come to relevant conclusions. We therefore designed the PEER-MIND model, which classifies users’ depression status using MBTI labels obtained from their social media posts and emotion features determined by text and images from the posts as well. This model achieves a 3.58% higher prediction accuracy compared to baseline models when using fine-grained emotion detection. Also, we developed the TimeSlider-HMM model, an interpretable tool for assessing depression risk. This model evaluates changes in depression probability across different MBTI dimensions before and after significant depressive trends appear, providing us with insights into the interaction between personality and emotional factors in depression detection.

the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm is a famous metaheuristic technique that has been successfully applied in various optimization issues. It mimics the foraging conduct of ants to locate the shortest path among meals assets and their colony. Recently, ACO has been increasingly more applied for provider composition in multi-cloud environments. This involves the composition of offerings from different cloud carriers to satisfy the service necessities of a person. By way of using ACO, services can be correctly selected and composed from a couple of carriers, considering elements including cost, excellent, and availability. Traditional relational or SQL database servers and document/JSON database servers are part of state-of-The-Art data architectures. Comparing the database query (OLAP) performance of relational and document data stores is challenging because of myriads of options in data modeling, query features, data distribution, processing distribution, etc. Based on the TPC-H benchmark tools, this paper presents the initial findings of converting the relational TPC-H schema deployed in a PostgreSQL/Citus cluster into a denormalized JSON schema deployed in a MongoDB cluster and subsequently mapping a 296-query set from SQL to MongoDB Aggregation Framework. The success of each query execution within a 10-minute timeout was collected for both PostgreSQL and MongoDB in six scenarios defined by two small-scale factors (0.01 and 0.1 GB) and three values of nodes (3,6 and 9) for data distribution and processing. Results show that the database server is associated with the success of query execution. © 2024 IEEE.

The Comparing the supersonic cloud computing model to enhance the networking and security in Traditional Data Centers study aimed to analyse the differences between traditional data centers and cloud computing models. The researchers' findings demonstrate that the supersonic cloud model consists of a number of services and functions that can improve network and security performance across all levels of the data center. Furthermore, the supersonic model offers more options for load balancing through routing protocols and more secure network access. In addition, the supersonic model allows for more flexibility in the resources used, such as virtual servers and storage systems. Lastly, the supersonic model allows for greater scalability through the use of distributed simultaneous networks. These benefits pave the way to the eventual goal of improving existing data center operation and security. The objective of this study was to assess the potential of supersonic cloud computing model (SCC) to improve the networking and security in traditional data centers. The findings indicated that SCC improved the network efficiency by 10.4%, reduced network latency by 11 %, and improved packet delivery rates by 8.6%. The security was also improved, with overall firewall rules increased by 12 %, and 5% fewer security violations. Overall, SCC showed promising performance in improving the networking and security of traditional data centers.

Cloud-Applications are the new industry standard way of designing Web-Applications. With Cloud computing, Applications are usually designed as microservices, and developers can take advantage of thousands of such existing microservices, involving several hundred of cross-component communications on different physical resources. Microservices orchestration (as Kubernetes) is an automatic process, which manages each component lifecycle, and notably their allocation on the different resources of the cloud infrastructure. Whereas such automatic cloud technologies ease development and deployment, they nevertheless obscure debugging and performance analysis. In order to gain insight on the composition of services, distributed tracing recently emerged as a way to get the decomposition of the activity of each component within a cloud infrastructure. This paper aims at providing methodologies and tools (leveraging state-of-the-art tracing) for getting a wider view of application behaviours, especially focusing on application performance assessment. In this paper, we focus on using distributed traces and allocation information from microservices to model their dependencies as a hierarchical property graph. By applying graph rewriting operations, we managed to project and filter communications observed between microservices at higher abstraction layers like the machine nodes, the zones or regions. Finally, in this paper we propose an implementation of the model running on a microservices shopping application deployed on a Zonal Kubernetes cluster monitored by Open Telemetry traces. We propose using the flow hierarchy metric on the graph model to pinpoint cycles that reveal inefficient resource composition inducing possible performance issues and economic waste.

The advent of Persistent Memory (PM) necessitates an evolution of Remote Direct Memory Access (RDMA) leclumlogies for supporting remote data persistence. Previous software -based solutions require remote CPU intervention and postpone the visibility of remote persistence. In this paper, we design several hardware -supported RDMA primitives to flush data from the volatile cache of RDMA Network Interface Cards (RN1Cs) to the PM. We also propose durable RPCs based on the proposed RDMA Flush primitives to support remote data persistence and fast failure recovery. We emulate the performance of RDMA Flush primitives through other RDMA primitives, and compare our proposals with several state-of-the-art RPCs in a real lestbed equipped with PM and Inliffilland networks. Experimental results show that our proposals can improve the throughput of RPCs by up to 90%, and reduce the 99th percentile latency by up to 497x. The experimental studies also provide instructive guidelines for designing RDMA-based distributed PM systems.

The emergence of software-defined networks (SDN) has made the network flexible, programmable, and responsive to change. However, the architectural characteristics of SDN make the network vulnerable to various security attacks. distributed denial of service (DDoS) is one such attack that aims to exhaust the network’s computational and bandwidth resources, blocking legitimate users’ access. This paper aims to study the effectiveness of using the self-similarity property, measured by the Hurst-exponent, in detecting DDoS attacks on the SDN controller. Simulation results have shown that normal and attack traffic flows captured at the controller have different degrees of self-similarity. Specifically, attack traffic flows show high levels of self-similarity, whereas normal traffic flows show lower degrees. Experiments demonstrated an average of 35% difference between the Hurst-exponent values of normal and attack traffic flows obtained, making it effective in classifying traffic flows and detecting attacks.
