We consider the network-side mobile localization problem in future 5G and beyond wireless networks with distributed multi-antenna base stations (BSs). For this application, we propose a semi-supervised multi-point channel charting (SS-MPCC) framework, which consists of (i) collaborative collection of channel state information (CSI) and other side-information by distributed BSs;(ii) local CSI feature extraction and self-learning of a dissimilarity metric, and (iii) global graph construction and constrained manifold learning. We show that side-information from routine network operations, including timestamps, channel qualities, and a small set of labeled samples, can be exploited to construct a consistent global graph. The graph is then mapped to a 2D channel chart using constrained manifold learning for localization purposes. We evaluate the performance of SS-MPCC in a simulated urban outdoor scenario with realistic user motion. Our results show that SS-MPCC achieves a mean localization error of 5.6m with only 10% of labeled CSI samples. SS-MPCC does not require accurate synchronization among multiple BSs and is promising for future cellular localization.

Efficient resource allocation and scheduling algorithms are essential for various distributed applications, ranging from wireless networks and cloud computing platforms to autonomous multi-agent systems and swarm robotic networks. However, real-world environments are often plagued by uncertainties and noise, leading to sub-optimal performance and increased vulnerability of traditional algorithms. This paper addresses the challenge of robust resource allocation and scheduling in the presence of noise and disturbances. The proposed study introduces a novel sign-based dynamics for developing robust-to-noise algorithms distributed over a multi-agent network that can adaptively handle external disturbances. Leveraging concepts from convex optimization theory, control theory, and network science the framework establishes a principled approach to design algorithms that can maintain key properties such as resource-demand balance and constraint feasibility. Meanwhile, notions of uniform-connectivity and versatile networking conditions are also addressed.

The proliferation of sensing device technologies, and the growing demand for data-intensive loT applications, are paving the way to the next wave of transformation in IoT computing systems architecture. The goal today is to design, implement and deploy a seamless interconnection of IoT, edge, cloud and High-Performance computing (HPC) resources in one computing system, to form a compute continuum, also referred to as edge-to-cloud. In this talk, continuum computing refers to the deployment and execution of context-aware machine learning-based applications employing IoT sensors. Because of their distributed nature over constrained resources devices, these applications leverage the cloud and HPC infrastructures for learning tasks while exploiting edge devices for inference tasks on data coming from local IoT sensors. But the next wave is already underway; it will involve designing edge-to-edge platforms where learning takes place locally while a coordination platform enables edge devices to share their intelligence. This talk will cover the following points: 1. why and what is continuum computing? 2. A comparative study of centralised continuum computing solutions available on the market, where the edge intelligence is controlled by the Cloud, 3. A decentralised continuum computing framework deployed on edge-to-edge infrastructure and supporting decentralised federated learning (DFL). Here, the edges improve their intelligence by exchanging with their “neighbours”, 4. An example of a DFL based context-aware IoT application, for energy sector, deployed on a decentralised continuum computing platform. This talk is the result of two European projects: SWARM and LASAGNE Keywords- continuum computing, edge-to-cloud, edge-to-edge, context-aware IoT applications, federated learning.

This paper proposes a Multi –Task Learning Model approach to detect Sarcasm and to analyze Sentiment within the given text. Sarcasm detection is important for enhancing natural language understanding particularly in customer reviews and social media where sarcastic sentences are mostly used. This system uses BERT (Bi-directional Encoder Representations from Transformers) to processes both tasks concurrently. It uses separate layers to handle each task individually. The text processing pipeline includes techniques such as text normalization, tokenization, and lemmatization and then followed by encoding using BERT’s tokenizer before using it for model training. BERT can understand the complex patterns of language which helps in easily recognize the small clues present in sarcastic statements. The architecture of the model incorporates specific layers for sarcasm and sentiment classification which optimizes prediction with loss functions for each task. If there is imbalance in class distributions class weighting is applied and model evaluation is performed using K-Fold cross validation to ensure robustness. To measure the model effectiveness performance metrics such as ROC-AUC curves, confusion matrix and detailed classification reports are used. Therefore, including MTL and BERT improves the performance and effectiveness in sarcasm detection and sentiment analysis.

The past few decades saw factory and process automation move from monolithic to fully distributed architectures, where the communication system plays a key role in providing higher flexibility and availability, yet fitting the peculiar requirements of such contexts. As part of the Industry 4.0 (r)evolution, the Industrial Internet of Things is meant to achieve full convergence toward well-agreed non-proprietary digital networking technologies. In this scenario, OPC UA is becoming increasingly relevant as a high-level protocol to exchange information in heterogeneous distributed industrial applications. In this paper, the performance of OPC UA has been evaluated by means of an experimental measurement campaign carried out on real devices connected to real networks. In particular, we analyzed how much the end-to-end notification latency achieved by the subscription mechanism is affected by the position and interconnection of devices, their specific implementation, and configuration parameters. Outcomes can be helpful in designing systems where industrial devices interact with local workstations, the edge, and the cloud, to understand whether or not timing constraints of applications will be met.

In addition to the physical security of energy networks, cyber security is essential to protecting these systems as well. Cyber threats can stem from malicious hackers who have infiltrated the networks to gain unauthorized access to sensitive data, or from vulnerabilities within the systems themselves. It is increasingly important that smart grid companies invest in cyber security solutions, such as strong passwords, two-factor authentication, encryption, and regular software updates, to counteract these threats. Additionally, it is beneficial for organizations to create incident response plans that are tailored to their specific needs, and which define the chain of command and actions to take in the case of an incident. To details the usage of smart grids in various domains and places in an effective way and explains the efficient way of consuming power for smart ventilators by monitoring and providing cyber security against cyber-attacks. The distributed power from various regions is collected from the less predominant places and supplied to the smart ventilators through smart inverters.

The Internet, a key participant (world wide web) in worldwide information exchange and media sharing, has experienced cumulative upgrades, developments, and given up consequent product IOT, making technology affordable and practical for all uses. Research development includes smart sensors, a communication channel and protocols for exchanging data, and peripherals like an Arduino, a Texas Instruments MSP430G2553, a Weather-proof Tx. Rx. Kit (for exchanging data), a Data Receptor and Decoder Shield for Lab View Kit (for exchanging data), an addressing and de-addressing data module, a communication shield, etc. It is now possible to communicate from a desktop computer or an Android smartphone to a portable device that has an embedded device, such as a microcontroller, a microprocessor, or a sensor. In other words, IOT combines always-on networking, always-on computation, and always-on intelligence. The Internet of Things facilitates communication between the central hub (fitted with a Lab-View interface) and the distributed modules (found in places like parks, subways, and highways) that control the lights. The Internet of Things is also useful for keeping the overall cost of setup and maintenance within reasonable economic bounds. The planned development takes into account IoT on two main scales: city-wide automation (also known as smart city) and home-level automation (also known as covering up).

Quorum systems are a key abstraction in distributed fault-tolerant computing for capturing trust assumptions. They can be found at the core of many algorithms for implementing reliable broadcasts, shared memory, consensus and other problems. This talk introduces asymmetric Byzantine quorum systems that model subjective trust. Every process is free to choose which combinations of other processes it trusts and which ones it considers faulty. Asymmetric quorum systems strictly generalize standard Byzantine quorum systems, which have only one global trust assumption for all processes. The talk presents also several protocols that tolerate Byzantine faults with asymmetric trust, such as shared-register implementations and reliable Byzantine broadcasts. Consensus is arguably one of the most important notions in distributed computing and also relevant for practical systems. We also show how to realize consensus protocols with asymmetric trust, illustrating our approach for protocols in partially synchronous systems and for asynchronous protocols that use randomization with asymmetric trust. Asymmetric quorum systems offer a way to understand some ideas behind the Ripple and Stellar blockchain protocols, which aim at relaxing symmetric trust assumptions and permit flexible trust. The presentation is based on joint work with Björn Tackmann and Luca Zanolini [1, 2].
