We investigate the design of an efficient rerouting scheme for dynamic bursty high granularity traffic as a part of an agile network management and control scheme in cognitive optical networks. An efficient rerouting scheme allows more efficient use of wavelengths resources. The design includes the fast reconfiguration of wavelengths in the existing lit and spatially routed fibers, and the setting up and lighting of new fibers. Rerouting is necessary to maintain users' quality of service when the network load exceeds the load limit of the primary path. Our design is to trigger reconfiguration when a load threshold is crossed, and the threshold is determined by requirements on both the delay and the blocking (i.e. no available lightpath) probability. The delay is dependent on the probability of exhausting all wavelengths on the primary route, the availability of secondary routes, the holder (buffer) size, and the topology of the network. A dynamic rerouting scheme implemented with a shortest-path algorithm with immediate wavelength availability is proposed to find the alternate paths. It is desirable that the alternate paths for rerouting have small numbers of hops and are disjoint with other busy paths. In addition, a good candidate network topology should have high edge-connectivity. Wavelength reservation for rerouted traffic does not maximize wavelength utilization. Traffic with different sizes should be broken up into multi-classes with dedicated partitioned resources and will have different maximum load thresholds for triggering rerouting to meet the performance requirements.

In order to improve the security and efficiency of computer network communication, this article analyzes the application of deep learning technology in network communication fault detection and processing. By introducing convolutional neural networks and long short-term memory networks, research focuses on network fault prediction, feature extraction, and security reinforcement. The results indicate that combining these technologies can significantly improve the stability and security protection capabilities of the network, providing effective improvement strategies for network communication technology. © 2024 SPIE.

As the Madrid quantum network, namely MadQCI, evolves, applied knowledge transferable to society should be generated. The general-purpose approach to quantum networking has already been successfully tested in several testbeds in Europe, including MadQCI. Now, this test bed will use a purpose-specific design to embody different architectures, techniques and technologies suitable for different application domains, research lines and stakeholders. Several scenarios and some details of their designs are outlined to exemplify this approach.

This research focuses on implementing machine learning in optimizing parameters and controlling power electronic systems and suggests a fusion optimization technique using neural network and genetic algorithm. Initially, a mathematical model is developed for optimizing parameters in a power electronic system, with the utilization of genetic algorithm for optimization. Next, a system for adaptive control is created, incorporating the use of neural network for both parameter estimation and optimization of control strategy. By analyzing a specific case of an electric vehicle charging system, it was found that this approach greatly enhances the system's charging efficiency and stability. The results from the experiment confirm that this method is effective and practical for optimizing power electronic systems, offering fresh ideas and techniques for system design and control improvement. © 2024 SPIE.

The composition distribution detection of processed tobaccos is one of the main difficulties in cigarette design and processing. The radio of the four kinds of tobacco influences the quality of cigarettes. Therefore, it is very important to detect tobacco shreds on the tobacco processing in order to ensure the cigarette consistency of formulation. Aiming at solving the problems of poor efficiency and low accuracy of traditional method and utilizing the advantages of deep leaning network in object detection, a method based on Yolov7 for tobacco shred detection is proposed. The collected images of four categorized tobacco shreds are manually marked, and model is trained through Yolov7 network. The mean average precision of tobacco shred detection in this work reached 0.986, and the tobacco shred detection speed was also vastly increased compared to traditional manual detection method. © 2025 SPIE.

The attraction of new services and applications over the Internet makes it critical for the network operators to increase the capacity of optical networks. To this end, multi-band elastic optical networks (MB-EON) are at the forefront of this capacity improvement for the short and medium term. These networks employ additional spectrum bands from the optical fiber other than the C (conventional) band. Due to the current availability of L-band erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs), lighting up the L-band of already installed fibers is considered as a pragmatic approach. However, network operators envision a soft migration from current C-band to fully upgraded C+L-bands networks in order to distribute the high cost of equipping all fibers and nodes of a network with multi-band devices over several years. Therefore, it is essential to propose solutions for scenarios where just a subset of network elements has been upgraded, i.e., to consider a hybrid C/C+L optical network rather than a fully upgraded one. As using the L-band besides the C-band doubles the network capacity, the management of the potential fiber failures is an important factor. In this work, the focus is set on the evaluation of the network performance, when considering different levels of partial migration, and comparing the use of dynamic restoration versus dedicated protection. Simulation results demonstrate that the usage of dynamic restoration, mainly in the middle stages of migration towards a fully upgraded network can remarkably boost the supported traffic load compared to the use of dedicated protection.

This paper investigates a novel framework for board-level failure localization in the optical Transport networks (OTN), dubbed Board-Alarm Propagation Tree based Failure Localization (BAPT-FL). Foremost, a collection of functional graphs (FGs) is garnered by iteratively tagging each board in the network topology, serving as the ground of the proposed framework. Concretely, BAPT-FL is designed to build a range of BAPTs by correlating the tagged boards and alarms involved in the FGs, where each BAPT deems a failed board and its correlated alarms as the root and leaves, respectively. To evaluate the edge weights of potential BAPTs induced by FGs, a graph neural network (GNN) with the graph transformer operator is employed as an edge classifier, which characterizes each vertex/edge from diverse dimensions including time, traffic distribution, network topology, and board/alarm attributes. Subsequently, we frame an integer linear programming (ILP) problem to construct the best possible BAPT(s). Extensive case studies are conducted to showcase BAPT-FL's advantage over its counterparts in terms of the metrics assessing the identified failed boards/root alarms. We also delve into its performance in volatile environmental variations such as diverse failure scenarios, network topologies, traffic distributions, and noise alarms.

Electro-optic modulators play a substantial role in modulating high-speed optical signals in photonic integrated systems. Graphene is a very promising material for various optoelectronic applications, allowing the realization of active optical devices. Plasmonic waveguides are the most promising candidates for subwavelength optical confinement. We propose a graphene-based electro-absorption modulator integrated with hybrid plasmonic waveguides. The proposed configuration integrates the benefits of both graphene and plasmonic waveguides. The results demonstrate that the modulation depth of the proposed modulator can reach 1.0917 dB/mu m at low gating voltages with a wavelength of 1.55 mu m. When compared with previous papers, our proposed modulator shows superior performance.
