Based on the fifth generation of mobile communication (5G), 5G open grid computing environment (5G OGCE), and cloud sea computing (CSC) in 5G OGCE, a marine boundary guard robot (MBGR) based on CSC are presented in this paper. A MBGR model is composed of models of Jellyfish (Cyanea Capillata), scallop and flying fish (Cypselurus). Its purpose is to carry out resources and energy exploitation under the support of 5G OGCE. It performs the tasks of rescue and maintenance in sea operation areas, and guard offshore oil fields and offshore wind turbine farm. It and the offshore flexible manufacturing systems constitute the underwater Intelligent Factory and/or Smart Factory. The MBGR can be distributed in different depths of sea. It can float on surface of sea to generate its own electricity, or it can dive to the bottom of sea. The tentacle cable robots (CRs) of MBGR are used to capture underwater unidentified AUVs, detect, search and rescue and salvage aircraft falling into the sea. The MBGR is capable of capturing small underwater vehicles, and wrapping and enlacing the propeller blades of large ships by its tentacle CRs and two-hand-type robots (BHT-AUVs) at the end of tentacle CRs. When it is needed to quickly pursue and search for ships at sea, the MBGR can leap out of sea and fly a period of time. The sea eight banners (SEBs) are formed by MBGRs. SEBs can be used to guard coast, and maritime space at different depths. ©2021 IEEE

Electric energy is an important part of building energy consumption, and air-conditioning accounted for most of the consumption of electric energy. Ice storage air conditioning is widely concerned because of its strong adjustability. Due to the limited space, it is often necessary to use multiple ice storage devices simultaneously to meet the application requirements. In this paper, a distributed coordination method for multiple ice storage devices is presented, which can allocate storage tasks according to the capacity of the device. Each device only needs to communicate with its neighbouring cold storage device, and finally achieve the control goal through distributed iteration. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is analysed by rigorous mathematics. If the communication topology between devices is connected, the algorithm can converge to the expected point. Finally, the validity and suitability of the algorithm and the correctness of theoretical analysis are verified and evaluation by digital simulation. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. Serverless computing is an emerging cloud deployment model where developers can concentrate on developing application logic without worrying about the underlying architecture. It is similar to the platform as a service (PaaS) but at the functional level. Applications are usually deployed in the form of a set of functions independently and each function may be executed at separate servers thus also named as function as a service (FaaS). Serverless at the edge can handle thousands of concurrent functions invocations to process various kinds of events generated from resources like database, system logs, and other storage units, etc. A number of serverless frameworks like Openfaas, Openwhisk, Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS allow dynamic scaling to handle the parallel request of stateless functions from the client-side. A separate container manager may be provisioned to handle distributed load for data processing. In this paper, we have evaluated the performance of serverless frameworks for parallel loads in terms of response time and throughput. In this paper, we have shown that the serverless framework is suitable for handling dynamic applications that can be executed on a number of stateless functions. An extensive comparison of the performance of serverless frameworks in handling concurrent invocations in terms of response time and throughput is also presented. It has been observed that Openwhisk is found to be the better serverless framework in terms of elasticity and scalability.

In the distributed computing environments, user-submitted job details such as the expected job completion time estimates are prone to inaccuracies. These inaccurate details force the system to under-perform due to ineffective allocation of processing resources. Addressing the concerns that crop-up due to the presence of these ill-defined user-provided parameters is an important task, which is very much required to get the jobs executed using optimal number of resources. At the same time, studying the ways of deriving accurate job runtimes benefits us in attaining improved load balancing results. The work proposed in the present study tries to apply an enhanced user priority model, taking into account the penalty and aging of job requests. It also combines least load variance method to improve the load balancing across grid resources. Simulation results obtained using realistic workloads bring forward the load balance efficiency of the studied scheme. This also confirms that to consider and infer of improved modeling of these user priority provides gains that outperform the methods void of it. The results attained are equated and contrasted with prevailing algorithms in terms of parameters like response time, wait time, tardiness, and average resource utilization in high-performance computing environments. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

This paper explores parallelism performance for C, C++, Go, Java, Julia, and Rust on N-body simulations. We begin with a basic O(N2) simulation for each language based on the n-body benchmark in the Benchmark Game. The original benchmark is adjusted to include a larger number of particles and run in parallel. We also add parallelism to the force calculations using a kD-tree. This work builds on previous work by including parallelism and adding the Julia programming language to our survey. We find that for straight number-crunching, all of these languages provide similar performance, and all have sufficient support for parallelism that runtimes scale well with thread counts. On the other hand, when a spatial data structure, such as the kD-tree, is introduced, the runtimes vary dramatically between languages. In that situation, Julia’s performance looks more like Python, taking over 100 times as long as Rust/C/C++ to finish. Rust comes out on top with an impressive 50% lead over C and C++. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The investigation of crustal stress state is an important scientific problem for the theoretical investigating of tectonic processes and solving many practical issues of mineral deposits searching and exploration, underground structures construction, disasters forecast, etc. The available measurement data of the modern stress field, summarized in the databases of the international project World Stress Map (WSM), are extremely unevenly distributed, which causes the need to search for approaches to gaps restoration. A method for assessing the crustal stress state regimes (normal faulting, thrust faulting, and strike-slip) on a regular satellite data grid is proposed based on the supervised classification in a multidimensional feature space. Features are generated by constructing and processing lineament networks and contrasting boundaries of satellite images. The projections of the measurement points from WSM database are used as references. The method was applied in the northern part of Turkey. Based on the lineament analysis of Terra MODIS and Aster satellite data, a 21-dimensional feature space was generated and used to classify the territory into three classes with the predominant stress state regimes. The forecast accuracy was estimated based on reference samples and on average is 82%. Aiming at the problem of effective utilization of virtualized WSN resources, a reinforcement learning-based resource allocation strategy for virtualized WSNs is proposed from the perspective of service requests of virtualized WSNs. A virtual sensor network request deployment utility maximization model is established based on the quality requirements of service sensing information and resource capacity constraints. Considering the randomness of service requests and the dynamic changes in the network environment, the resource optimization problem is transformed into MDP and solved using Actor-Critic reinforcement learning methods, and the best resource allocation strategy is obtained. Finally, a large number of simulation experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This chapter presents the application of an artificial neural network-based monitoring system power grid network. Neural net modules used for this study are of two kinds, a distributed separate artificial neural net (ANN) module to monitor all lines individually from separate points in the network and central common multiple-input, multiple-layer ANN to monitor all lines together. Only the active power flowing on all the lines of the utility network were monitored using the ANN’s. This work elaborates and evaluates the technical repercussions of both the modules. The ANN model employed was a feed-forward net with backpropagation of error. The aspiration of the task is to deliberate on the opportunities and obstacles of the various configurations of ANN models employed. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
