Over the past few years, large language models have evolved to enable a wide range of applications-from natural language understanding to real-time conversational agents. However, the deployment of LLMs into production presents many significant challenges, especially with regard to low-latency responses that enable real-time interactions. This work investigates multi-node inference architectures for optimized deployment using open-source frameworks with scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness. We investigate various methods, such as microbatching, tensor and pipeline parallelism, and sophisticated load balancing, that effectively distribute inference workloads across multiple nodes. We conduct extensive evaluations using popular open-source tools such as Kubernetes, Ray, and Envoy to benchmark the performance of these architectures in terms of latency, throughput, and resource utilization under diverse workloads. We also analyze model replication versus model partitioning trade-offs, giving insights into the most appropriate configuration for various deployment scenarios. As our results show, a well-orchestrated multi-node setup can be used to greatly reduce inference latency while preserving high throughputs, enabling the deployment of sophisticated LLMs in latencysensitive applications. This paper gives insights with a detailed analysis of multi-node inference strategies and integration into open-source ecosystems, therefore it will be a great guide for practitioners seeking to develop deployments of LLMs at scale. In summary, this work underlines how distributed architectures can overcome some of the inherent limitations imposed by singlenode deployments and are crucial for achieving more efficient and responsive AI-driven services.

The augmentation of Cyber-physical Systems (CPSs) with Digital Twins (DTs) through various twinning architectures has significantly changed how complex systems are designed, operated, and maintained. Recent advances in twinning provide high-fidelity digital replicas of physical entities, facilitating enhanced monitoring and predictive services. However, creating effective twinning systems for distributed CPSs is difficult due to complex relationships and convoluted interactions between system components. This makes monitoring and ensuring the system adheres to the requirements more challenging. Machine learning-based techniques have been proposed, but these have scalability and performance limitations. This work proposes a multi-agent-oriented architecture aimed at overcoming these challenges by fostering the integration between CPSs and their DTs. Our architecture enhances system monitoring and anomaly detection by combining intelligent software agents with a complex event-processing engine. This ensures robustness and fault tolerance in CPS applications while improving operational efficiency and accuracy. Besides describing our proposed framework, this paper discusses its implications by means of a multi-robot system for a warehouse, which demonstrates the applicability of our solution and provides some insights into future directions for research in this domain.

Fully connected (FC) layers present a significant bottleneck in the throughput of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Transformers when deployed on hardware accelerators such as FPGAs, ASICs, and analog AI chips. This paper proposes a novel approach to mitigate this limitation by replacing FC layers with sparse graph embedding techniques derived from Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes, enabling robust weight compression. Using VGG16 as a case study, we demonstrate that our method reduces the parameters in the FC layers from 123,642,856 to just 64,000-a 1,931-fold reduction-while maintaining high-precision classification performance. Following aggressive pruning (72% weight reduction), our LDPC-based embeddings, combined with 8-bit fixed-point quantization, achieve an accuracy of 70.21%, compared to 70.89% achieved by unpruned float32. On the Xilinx Alveo U50 platform, this translates to processing up to 1119 images per second with parallel computation of 64-dimensional embeddings. Moreover, by replacing the top FC layers with the proposed graph embedding method and leveraging fast analog feature extraction (via supervised or random projections), our approach demonstrates the potential to achieve peak performance on the Alveo U50 of 4.8 million images per second for float32 100-class classification and 39.86 million images per second for 10-class classification using 16-bit fixed-point representation. These findings underscore the capability of graph embeddings to significantly enhance DNN efficiency on data center and resource-constrained edge AI hardware platforms. We hypothesize that exploiting the inherent sparsity of graph embeddings, combined with the energy efficiency of analog computation for feature extraction, can yield substantial reductions in CNN, Transformer and Diffusion DNN inference power consumption, potentially surpassing GPU efficiency by three to four orders of magnitude. This paper offers an overview of real-time analytics for smart cities proposing a framework for real-time data processing to improve the urban landscape. In the proposed system, large-scale data-streams can be processed using advanced machine learning algorithms, edge computing, and distributed data storage. Analyzing the outcomes of the evaluation procedure evidences reportable performance enhancements in the areas of smart city applications. Average traffic speed in transportation systems in the same period rose by 60%, concurrency and response to incidents likewise cut down by 40% and 53% respectively. The energy management systems responded with a 16% decrease in maximum energy load and the waste reduction was by 50%, while the costs savings was by 25% increase. Public safety applications alone realised a 60% decrease in the time taken to detect a crime and a 28.6% increase in efficiency on disaster resources with an overall spike in public satisfaction of 25.7%. Such findings improve the understanding of how this framework can increase urban efficiency, sustainability, and quality of life, which makes the solution usable in future smart city projects.
