Completing sparse data captured with commercial depth sensors is a vital and fundamental procedure for many computer vision applications. For execution in real-world scenarios, a good trade-off between accuracy and speed is increasingly in demand for depth completion methods. Most previous methods achieve satisfactory accuracy on standard benchmarks. However, they extensively rely on heavy models to handle diverse structures and require additional run time on multimodal data. In this paper, we present an efficient method of depth completion. We propose a grouped fusion strategy for efficiently extracting depth and guidance features in parallel and fusing them naturally in the feature spaces to achieve high performance. Instead of a monolithic architecture, we employ cascaded hourglass networks, each of which is specialized for certain structures and has a lightweight architecture. Given the sparsity of the depth maps, we downsample the inputs to multiple scales to further accelerate the computation. Our model runs at over 39 FPS on an embedded GPU with high-resolution inputs. Evaluations on the KITTI benchmark demonstrate that the proposed model is an ideal approach for real-world applications.

Time series pattern outlier represents a pattern with abnormal behavior that is significantly different from other patterns in the time series and can induce a bias in the decision-making process related to design, operation, and management. This research focuses on the problem of detecting anomalous patterns from time series data. The main consideration is the fact that normal pattern can be modeled by some statistical models and anomalous patterns cannot. Combined with characteristics of time series data, this research develops an effective and accurate outlier pattern detection approach SAX_ePST to detect anomalous patterns in time series. Experiments indicate the proposed methods are fast and correctly identifying anomalous pattern.

This paper proposes a particular type of nonlinear data-driven Model Predictive Control (NMPC) strategy, called Neural Network Model Predictive Control (NNMPC), applied to a simulated neuro-inspired quadruped robot. The locomotion control is realised using a central pattern generator (CPG) implemented through oscillators synchronized through environmental feedback. The NMPC provides a descending command to the robot for steering control. This is realized by regulating a parameter governing the dynamics of the CPG structure. In order to test the performance obtained applying the NMPC, the results are compared with those obtained using a linear MPC. Carrying out a comparative analysis, the differences between the two methods will be highlighted. Copyright (C) 2021 The Authors.

This paper proposes two quasi-zero power control methods for permanent magnet levitation systems. The system consists of a radially magnetized permanent magnet, two symmetrically arranged iron cores, a servo motor with an encoder, and a bar-shaped suspended object. In this system, the servo motor drives the permanent magnet to rotate, changing the magnetic flux through the suspended object, and realizes the non-contact suspension of the suspended object. Due to the special structure of the system, the system has quasi-zero power characteristics. In this paper, the constant angle control method and the constant air gap control method are used to study the quasi-zero power characteristics of the system under the action of radial interference force. The results show that both control methods have lower current consumption. Under the constant air gap quasi-zero power state, it can not only reduce energy consumption but also ensure stability.

In this paper, a novel hardware-efficient central pattern generator (CPG) model based on asynchronous coupling of cellular automaton (CA) phase oscillators for a hexapod robot is presented. It is shown that the presented model can exhibit various synchronization patterns depending on parameter values. In order to analyze the synchronization patterns, a phase equilibrium and an evaluation function for a target synchronization pattern are introduced. As a result of the analysis, it is shown that an asynchronously coupled CA phase oscillators is suitable for the hexapod robot than a synchronously coupled CA phase oscillators. The presented asynchronous CPG model with parameters tuned appropriately is implemented on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) device and the device is mounted on a hexapod robot. A laboratory experiment verifies that the hexapod robot can reproduce one of typical gaits of six-legged insects. Finally, it is shown that the presented CPG model consumes far fewer circuits elements and much less power compared with one of conventional numerical integration CPG model and our previous CPG model.

This paper proposes an idea of the amelioration of solar panels with a fuzzy logic controller and their deployment on stagnant water (reservoir of hydro-electric damns). The involvement of a fuzzy logic controller improves the level of intelligence of the control system hence prioritizing between critical and non-critical loads which enables the utilization of the harnessed solar energy with greater service continuity. From the analysis, it was observed that 35% more energy is allocated for critical loads than the non-critical loads which satisfies a greater percentage of critical loads.

In recent times, Machine Learning has played a significant role in the healthcare industry and amongst all of the major diseases, heart disease is one of the significant and most critical diseases to predict. There is a rapid increase in the number of cases each day. It has been observed that in every minute, 4 people between the age group of 30-50 get a stroke, so we are using machine learning algorithms to mitigate this problem. Kaggle used the heart disease dataset used for this project. This paper demonstrates the prediction of heart disease using multiple machine learning classification algorithms such as Naive Bayes, Random Forest, SVM etc., and compares their accuracy scores. Later on, Stacking Ensemble Learning Technique is used to boost our classification models' performance.

The grammatical inference community has been studying evolutionary methods for DFA learning for almost three decades. These methods typically operate by learning a representation of the target DFA either as a partitioning the states of a prefix tree acceptor or as an encoding of its transition matrix. In this paper, we present an alternative approach for learning random DFAs over binary alphabets from sparse training data. We first conducted several experiments on thousands of problem instances to study their behaviour and to better understand the conditions under which state merging algorithms succeed or fail. Motivated by these observations, we implemented an evolutionary algorithm in which the chromosomes encode short sequences of merges selected from a subset of high state-reduction merges. The fitness of a chromosome is then measured by extending it using the EDSM heuristic and the size of the final hypothesis is used to score the entire sequence. To improve runtime performance, we use a method that can reliably estimate the fitness of a sequence of merges without extending it completely. We use the state-of-the-art EDSM algorithm as a baseline to compare our results to and observe that we can find low-error hypotheses or the exact target DFAs with a considerably higher likelihood.

Modeling human behavior on the Web is an essential goal of Web usage mining and is often performed by sequential pattern mining (SPM). The similarity between data elements and the variability of human behavior often result in the decrease of the support value of some patterns and thus limit the number of patterns mined. This is often associated with a loss of information. As the data can lake the form of multiple data sources that represent multiple views of the area of interest, they can be used to handle this similarity and variability. lYaditional approaches form a unique dataset from these data. However, the associated mining task is complex and generates a large and redundant set of sequential patterns. This work proposes G_SPNI, a pattern mining algorithm designed for behavioral pattern mining that takys advantage of multi -source data to handle the similarity, while adopting a selective mining strategy to limit the complexity of the mining process and the increase in the number of patterns. It considers the behavioral data source as the main source, and exploits complementary sources only when similarity is suspected. It forms frequent general patterns that represent sets of similar behavioral patterns with a limited fiequency, while controlling the level of generality. Experimental results confirm that G SPM succeeds in mining general patterns and thus in handling the problem of item similarity. In addition, G_SPM outperforms traditional approaches in terms of runtime and redundancy of the resulting set of patterns.

The deep convolution neural network (DCNN) using cross-entropy loss has already achieved high accuracy on the single defect classification task. However, for multi-defect segmentation, the imbalance of categories makes the segmentation of small targets (cracks) not meticulous enough. It also has to adjust the weight of categories manually. This research proposes a region-pixel loss function, which uses a rebalanced training method to balance category weights automatically and classify small categories more accurately. First, we use a wall-climbing robot to obtain the color and depth (RGB-D) information of the surface. Then, we adopt the visual based simultaneous localization and mapping (V-SLAM) method to select key-frame as the input of DCNN. Finally, reconstructing the 3D model of the environment with the output segmentation results. At the same time, to address the weak links of human-computer interaction in the post-processing of defect monitoring, a fast searching method from global 3D model to local details is proposed so that the staff can calmly obtain the local defects' detailed image. Experiments show that our loss function improves the intersection over union (IoU) of small flaws on the verification set. The designed global-to-local interaction method has been applied in the actual dam surface detection and provided an automated solution for monitoring large concrete surfaces.
