With the rapid development of heterogeneous computing technology, heterogeneous computing power trading has become a new research and application hotspot. This article proposes a standardized billing model aimed at standardizing the billing process in heterogeneous computing power transactions, improving the efficiency of computing power utilization and fairness of transactions. This model comprehensively considers the characteristics of heterogeneous computing power, task requirements, market prices, and other factors. By designing reasonable billing algorithms and standardized billing interfaces, it achieves accurate measurement and flexible billing of heterogeneous computing power. © 2024 IEEE.

The article describes the application of digital technology on the example of an AC electric motor in solving the problem of an electromechanical converter condition monitoring. In the course of creating mathematical and computer models, the existing methods of technological equipment condition monitoring were analyzed. Based on them, the optimal method was chosen for determining the current value of variables that are not easily accessible for direct measurement, followed by the construction of a complete mathematical and informational model. The paper describes the functional scheme of a digital twin of a three-phase electromechanical AC converter, and presents a process control system. The validity of the developed system for monitoring the condition of the equipment and the digital twin of the AC electric motor was confirmed by subsequent analysis of the compliance of the passport and received calculation data. © 2023 IEEE.

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) has become a crucial technology driving the transformation of manufacturing towards intelligence. Traditional industrial networks primarily focus on data collection, whereas emerging IIoT emphasizes intelligent management and optimized control utilizing advanced technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence. With the more complex application scenarios, sole reliance on cloud computing fails to meet requirements for low latency and high security, thus leading to a trend towards edge-cloud collaborative computing. Knowledge-Defined Networking (KDN) introduces a knowledge plane above the control and data planes, which utilizes machine learning and deep learning methods to extract and analyze data and can guide the control plane in updating and optimizing network management and control decisions. This architecture enables the system to understand domain knowledge, supports knowledge-based reasoning decisions, and facilitates higher-level intelligent applications. This paper proposes a Knowledge-Defined Edge-Cloud Collaborative IoT architecture tailored for industrial monitoring scenarios. Therein, the edge is responsible for initial real-time data processing, while the cloud handles large-scale data storage and complex analytics. Knowledge definition are introduced into the entire framework and enables a comprehensive understanding of equipment status through historical data analysis and real-time feedback, which facilitates predictive issue identification and optimization of production plans. The enabling technologies that can implement the functions of the knowledge-based cloud, knowledge-based edge, knowledge-based end, and interfaces are summarized, which are expected to provide guidance for future IIoT. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Industrial batch processes, such as those in the pharmaceutical industry, are characterized by complex system behaviors, due to the involvement of several chemical reactions in various time critical process phases. Monitoring such processes involves several critical aspects: identifying unknown process phases, tracking their sequence and duration, and detecting anomalies within these phases. As demonstrated in several industrial applications, the ability of Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs) to detect anomalies, identify and visualize process phases is highly beneficial for comprehensive monitoring and understanding of technical processes. This paper presents a hybrid unsupervised learning strategy (HULS) for monitoring complex industrial processes. Addressing the limitations of SOMs, especially in scenarios with unbalanced datasets and highly correlated process variables, HULS combines existing unsupervised learning techniques to address these challenges. The capabilities of the HULS concept compared to the standard SOM model for the detection of unknown process phases and monitoring process phase sequences and durations are evaluated using a exemplary laboratory batch process. © 2024 IEEE.

This work analyzes the computing performance of distributed control systems in IEC 61499 on two hardware devices, Dell XPS workstation and Raspi 4B. Based on the test IEC 61499 application, three different system configurations are tested to simulate the distribution options of singleprocess and single-thread, multi-threading, and multi-process on both hardware platforms. Experimental results show that multiprocess configurations yield more consistent execution time due to dedicated resource allocation, while multi-threading, though resource-efficient, can lead to latency variability. These results aim at help in choosing optimal configurations and selecting hardware for performance in distributed automation systems. © 2025 IEEE.

In a significant move towards enhancing flexibility in industrial automation, the development of adaptable and scalable control components (CCs) as control-related skills in process and manufacturing industry aims at supporting effective management of complex production systems. This research seeks to develop CC architecture design methods. As a basis, a unified library of elementary functions is designed to enable creation of CCs. With a focus on enabling dynamic CC composition and skill generation, we aim to provide a systematic and scalable approach to flexibility in control applications. The primary objective is to establish a proof of concept for the proposed function library, demonstrating its versatility and effectiveness via validating various procedures. Through the combination of a conceptual framework and prac-tical implementations, this paper validates the potential impact of a unified, composable CCs in enhancing adaptability and re-sponsiveness within control applications in industrial production. Furthermore, the machine-readable functionality description of CCs enhances their reusability and adaptability and thus increase the flexibility and efficiency of production processes. This lays the basis for semantic interoperability which is required to integrate the CC framework into capability-based control application configuration, particularly within the Industry 4.0 framework. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper explores the role of Robotic process automation (RPA) in leveraging opportunities presented by 5G edge computing in the telecommunications industry. However, it also poses challenges such as complex integration, security concerns, and the need for effective change management. The paper comprehensively analyzes the potential benefits, challenges, and recommendations for implementing RPA in 5G edge computing. It explores use cases, future advancements, emerging technologies, and anticipated opportunities and challenges. The findings highlight the need for clear objectives, process optimization, collaboration between IT and business teams, and continuous monitoring to leverage RPA in 5G edge computing effectively. © 2024 IEEE.

In this work, we design and create a Human Machine Interface (HMI) for a mechatronics assembly station controlled by a programmable logic controller. Components are pneumatically assembled of different parts which include a valve body, a spool, a screw, and a knob-spring. A PLC uses the data gathered from various sensors to control the output devices. This PLC is interfaced with a computer that acts as a human-machine interface. The HMI interface is designed in such a way that the information from the assembly station can be monitored and controlled in real-time. The process can be performed manually or automatically by changing the state of the selector switch on the HMI. A different message is displayed at each step of the assembly process to identify the progress. Different alarms are also displayed to alert the operator of possible complications during the assembly process. This project was performed in the Advanced PLC Laboratory at Michigan Technological University using an Allen Bradley CompactLogix L32E PLC. The software used includes RSLogix 5000 for programming the PLCs, and FactoryTalk View Studio for developing the SCADA HMI system. © 2023 IEEE.

process automation in business process redesign is a critical issue. One of the problems is related to retrieving similar business process models (BPMs) stored in a repository based on implicit business process model queries extracted from user feedback. Previous studies in graph similarity focus on one-to-one business process model (BPM) similarity;however, this approach is considered time-consuming. This study aims to identify the possibility of using the graph approach and Graph Edit Distance Greedy (GED-Greedy) as structural similarity methods for measuring similarity between BPM queries and BPMs in the repository. The structure of a BPM can be represented as the inter-structure and intra-structure of a graph. The structural similarity value of the two graphs' BPM final result is 0.91. It means that the proposed methods from the case study could be used for measuring structural similarity between BPMs. © 2023 IEEE.

The precursor pre-oxidation process, as a critical link in carbon fiber production, stabilizes the properties of carbon fiber precursors, lays the foundation for the carbonization process, and is also a step that can directly determine the structural properties of carbon fiber, so it has been widely concerned by academic circles. Evaluating the density and strength of pre-oxidized filaments is expensive, time-consuming, and has different cost consumption, leading to heterogeneous problems in optimizing pre-oxidized process parameters. An optimization algorithm of pre-oxidation process parameters based on collaborative migration agent genetic programming is proposed to solve this problem. This method establishes a single-objective multi-precision surrogate model of the pre-oxidation process and a collaborative model between the two targets. The cooperative model predicts the high-cost target to reduce the operating cost in the calculation process. Our experimental results show that the proposed algorithm performs well in optimizing pre-oxidation process parameters. © 2023 IEEE.
