The major recent advances in autonomous driving are mostly based on recent progress in object detection methods. Object detection broadly depends on the quality of the cameras and sensors used to generate the images. Many kinds of sensors are being utilized for the sake of improving scene perception, such as RGB, radar, and LidAR. However, the usage of all these sensors' data leads to object detection degradation in adverse lighting conditions. Thermal imaging depicts the spatial distribution of temperature differences in a scene. This leads to the ability of a thermal camera to outperform other sensors in severe weather conditions. In this research, we propose the use of thermal imaging to improve object detection in autonomous driving. The proposed framework inherits the architecture of Efficientdet and further proposes a technique to fuse the features of two different modalities: thermal and RGB. We use GAN as an I2I translation framework to transform the thermal images into RGB images. Our experimental results demonstrate that our proposed framework outperforms the detection accuracy of other state-of-the-art object detectors in thermal imagery. We propose two variants, MdFFTdet-d0 and MdFFTdet-d2 which achieve mAP of 63.15% and 77.81% respectively on the FLIR AdAS dataset. © 2022 IEEE.

We describe here advances in the development of the StereoJet process, which provides stereoscopic hardcopy comprising paired back-to-back digital images produced by inkjet printing. The polarizing images are viewed with conventional 3-d glasses. Image quality has benefitted greatly from advances in inkjet printing technology. recent innovations include simplified antighosting procedures;precision pin registration;and production of large format display images. Applications include stills from stereoscopic motion pictures, molecular modeling, stereo microscopy, medical imaging, CAd imaging, computer-generated art, and pictorial stereo photography. Accelerated aging tests indicate longevity of StereoJet images in the range 35-100 years. The commercial introduction of custom StereoJet imaging through licensed service bureaus was initiated in 1999.

In parallel with rapid advances in computer technology, biomedical functional imaging is impacting to an ever-increasing extent on healthcare. Functional imaging allows us to see dynamic processes quantitatively in the living human body. However, as we need to deal with 4-dimensional time varying images, space requirements and computational complexity are extremely high. This makes information management and communication difficult. Using the minimum amount of data to represent the required information, developing fast algorithms to process the data, organizing the data in such a way to facilitate information management, and extracting the maximum amount of useful information from the recorded data, have become important research tasks in biomedical information technology. For the last 10 years, the Biomedical & Multimedia Information Technology (BMIT) Group has conducted systematic studies on these topics. Some of the results relating to functional imaging data acquisition, compression, storage, management, processing, modeling and simulation, are reported in this paper.

In next generation video surveillance systems there is a trend towards embedded solutions. digital signal processors (dSP) are often used to provide the necessary computing power. The limited resources impose significant challenges for software development. Resource constraints must be met while facing increasing application complexity and pressing time-to-market demands. recent advances in synthesis tools for Simulink suggest a high-level approach to algorithm implementation for embedded dSP systems. The model-based visual development process of Simulink facilitates simulation as well as synthesis of target specific code. In this work the modeling and code generation capabilities of Simulink are evaluated with respect to video analysis algorithms. different models of a motion detection algorithm are used to synthesize code. The generated code targeted at a Texas Instruments TMS320C6416 dSP is compared to a hand-optimized reference. Experiments show that an ad hoc approach to synthesize complex image processing algorithms hardly yields optimal code for dSPs. However, several optimizations can be applied to improve performance.

recent advances in 3d visualization from research on computer vision (CV) and computer graphics (CG) have stimulated vigorous research on the digital modeling and rendering of woven fabrics. In this paper, we propose an efficient image-based method for modeling of weave patterns of silk-like woven fabrics of filament yarns, from multi-illuminated HdR(High dynamic Range) image analysis, based on the mesostructure of woven fabrics, such as Noh costume. The cloth simulation results on arbitrarily chosen parameter of weave pattern model of Noh costume show the performance of the proposed approach. ©2009 IEEE.

Brain Tumor is rapidly growing problem these days for every age group of people, and thus to accurately detect a tumor, it is essential that we render to automatic brain tumor segmentation. In this study, semantic 3d U-Net segmentation architecture is proposed using Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI). Basically this method not only detects the tumor but also convey the location of a tumor. In this, we have applied multiple preprocessing techniques for better results and the resultant of these multiple techniques is fed to the proposed architecture of U-Net. This paper has also tried to minimize the mean-variance problem, handle the different sizes of tumor and also to deal with address imbalance problem. In this study, different parameters are evaluated in terms of brain tumor segmentation i.e. dice similarity coefficient, Sensitivity, Specificity, Accuracy and Mean IoU. In the study, three classification models have also been used to evaluate the survival rate. The experiments have been evaluated using BraTS 2020 dataset with 98.91% accuracy for segmentation task. © 2023 IEEE.

In the domain of 3d scene reconstruction this work presents the cooperation of shape from shading and stereo vision and demonstrates how to overcome a certain number of previously encountered problems. The problems of application assumptions, regularization terms and simplifications of physical models, used to overcome the problem of the modules of being ill-posed, are solved by the concept of integrating complementary knowledge of the physical world into one system. The problems due to the use of non-optimal resolution methods and too long parameter lists when the modules are integrated in a homogeneous system, are solved by the introduction of a cooperation concept for heterogeneous systems. The problem of error propagation from stereo vision to shape from shading, when only the initial and border conditions are used for the cooperation, is solved by the introduction of simultaneous constraints from both modules on all image points. The shape from shading problems of using too simple physical models for real scenes and inconsistent physical models with stereo vision are overcome by the introduction of more complex physical models. Perspective projection, point light sources and Phong's reflection model. The stereo vision problem caused by the lack of a global quality constraint when correlation is used as resolution method, is solved by using simulated annealing. The stereo vision problem arising from the use of the gray-levels for the resemblance constraint and so assuming lambertian surfaces, is solved by using the photometric characteristics from shape from shading instead. © 1999 IEEE.

Mudstone (shale) reservoir evaluation and efficient development poses a significant challenge due to the heterogeneous nature of these complex formations. Organic-rich shales are characterized by intricate mineralogy, ultra-low nanoporosity, and nano-darcy permeability making these tight source/reservoir rocks challenging in obtaining economically viable hydrocarbons. Consequently, characterizing and quantifying minerology and intra-/interparticle (non)organic-hosted porosity at the pore-scale, and up-scaling it to the core-scale remains a significant focus of evaluating reservoir quality in shale plays. Current advances in correlative multi-scale and multi-modal 2d/3d imaging of nanoporous geomaterials, such as shales, provide a tremendous opportunity to characterize and represent these rocks over multiple length scales - from core-to pore-scale. Subsequently, these image datasets can be then used for advanced image analysis and digital rock modeling to reconstruct 2d/3d models used to analyze their petrophysical properties. In this study, the Mancos Shale from the Uinta Basin - one of the most promising shale plays in the United States (Hawkins et al. 2016) - was characterized from centimeter-to nanometer-scale via digital rock analysis using correlative micro 3d X-ray computed tomography (micro-CT), micro 3d X-ray microscopy (micro-XRM), light microscopy (LM) mosaic map, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) mosaic map, and focused ion beam (FIB) - SEM (FIB-SEM) nano-tomography image datasets. These multi-resolution and multi-dimensional image datasets, were then registered with each other, and used to reconstruct digital rock 2d/3d models from which shale petrophysical properties such as lithology, mineralogy, and porosity were extracted. Additionally, the imaged mineralogy and porosity results were compared with traditional laboratory experimental data, such as XRd and helium porosity measurements. © 2019, international Petroleum Technology conference

Materials surface characteristics can be investigated analyzing their spectral response when properly energized by a suitable source. When the source is represented by a light spectra of known characteristics the surface material response can thus be evaluated adopting a spectrophotometric approach. The analyses of the detected spectra can give useful information concerning the material characteristics and/or surface properties and status. In this perspective digital spectrophotometry can be considered as one of the basic techniques to characterize materials. The application of such a technique is usually confined in "high-tech" environments and can results quite expensive and difficult to apply in industrial "on-line" processes. In this paper recent advances in imaging spectrophotometry devices and techniques are presented with reference to the possibility of recognizing different glass fragments (cullets) according to their color and, most important thing, the presence of transparent polluting fragments, that is the distinction between glass from ceramic glass fragments. The work is specifically addressed on the spectral characterization of different ceramic glass products in order to define suitable inspection strategies to preliminary identify and then sort such a class of materials inside recycling plants to perform the required separation between useful (glass) and polluting (ceramic glass) materials.
