With the advances in cardiovascular imaging technologies in recent years, 4d (3d+time) patient-specific modeling of the heart has attracted many research interests. Computational modeling approaches such as Computational Fluid dynamics (CFd) and Finite Element (FE) have been increasingly used to quantitatively diagnose and predict cardiovascular diseases. In these methods, the geometrical reconstruction of the heart anatomy is usually an indispensable step. This work presents a robust method for reconstructing time-varying subdivision surfaces from the segmentation masks of cardiac images. We first reconstruct a 3d mesh for the first time step by iteratively fitting an initial mesh based on error and tension terms. Each subsequent time step uses the model from its previous time step as the control mesh for subdivision surface fitting. This method preserves the 1-to-1 vertex correspondence between meshes in different time steps and allows us to control the mesh quality (i.e. resolution, smoothness, and accuracy). Furthermore, in contrast to contour-based algorithms, our method can handle non-trivial topological changes such as holes and tunnels. The method has been tested on 3d and 4d datasets of different modalities (i.e. CT and MRI), resolutions, and chambers. For creating visually appealing results, we show that synthetic textures can be mapped to the 4d reconstruction due to the vertex correspondence. We also quantitatively evaluate the reconstructed 3d meshes in terms of mesh quality and conformity to the data.

This paper describes a new approach for modeling of the human hand by considering the dynamics and the natural constraints of the motion and the shape of hands. The hand model consists of a dynamic model and a surface model. The dynamic model is used to generate the posture of the hand. We show that natural hand posture can be generated even only a few hand parameters are available. The surface model is used to generate the hand shape based on the posture obtained from the dynamic model. The surface model is built based on the digitized 3d shape of a real hand.

A methodology for the optimal design of projection patterns for stereometric structured light systems is presented. The similarity as well as the difference between the design of projection patterns and the design of optimal signals for digital communication are discussed. The design of K projection patterns for a structured light system with L distinct planes of light is shown to be equivalent to the placement of L points in a K dimensional space subject to certain constraints. optimal design in the MSE sense is defined, but shown to lead to an intractable multi-parameter global optimization problem. Intuitively appealing suboptimal solutions derived from the family of K dimensional space-filling Hilbert curves are obtained. Preliminary experimental results are presented.

Conventional transformer used in power grid occupies large space and it has a complex electromagnetic characteristic. due to advancements in electronics and digital technology, it is possible to develop a solid-state transformer (SST). The issues like nonlinear characteristics, oil leakage, and large size with conventional transformers can certainly be eliminated by SST. It can be easily controllable and is also able to transfer power smoothly. SST compose of three main parts;converts to generate high-frequency supply, isolating transformer, and again converter to produce low-frequency supply. The boost rectifier used in STT is elaborated on in this article. Here, a power electronic transformer operating at high frequency is proposed for the integration of distributed resources in place of an electromagnetic transformer. MATLAB software is used for modeling of one-phase rectifier with the Hysteresis Current Control (HCC) technique to boost the voltage. An effective control strategy is designed with a PI controller and HCC to attain a unity power factor and reduces the total harmonic distortion (THd). It is to be noted that the outcome of hysteresis current control in terms of THd is better than fixed frequency-based current control. © 2023 IEEE.

recent improvements in laser rangefinder technology, together with algorithms developed at Stanford for combining multiple range and color images, allow us to reliably and accurately digitize the external shape and reflectance of many physical objects. As an application of this technology, I and a team of 30 faculty, staff, and students from Stanford University and the University of Washington spent the 1998-99 academic year digitizing the sculptures and architecture of Michelangelo. during this time, we scanned 10 statues, including the giant figure of david, and 2 building interiors, including the Medici Chapel, which was designed by Michelangelo. As a side project, we also acquired a high-resolution light field of his statue of Night, in the Medici Chapel. Finally, in another side project, we scanned the 1,163 fragments of the Forma Urbis Romae, the giant marble map of ancient Rome. In the months ahead we will process the data we have collected to create 3d digital models of these objects and, in the case of the Forma Urbis, we will try to assemble the map. The goals of this project are scholarly and educational. Commercial use of the models is not excluded, and many such uses can be imagined, but none is currently planned. I outline the technological underpinnings, logistical challenges, and possible outcomes of this project. © 1999 IEEE.

We propose a new method of creating a complete model of a curved object from multiple range images acquired by showing it at different poses. The pose of the object is changed by a manipulator in order to view the object from some specified viewpoints. The pose is planned after each new image is merged into a unified representation. A rating function for the planning is defined to take into consideration the factors such as possibility of merging new data, registration accuracy and control point selection.

Future automobiles will be equipped with hundreds of processors. Some will control vehicle functions (i.e. anti-lock brakes, traction control, and engine management). Others will continuously monitor the vehicle surroundings and extract and Interpret relevant Information to enhance safety. Integrated digital cameras are an important feature for next generations of customer products. From low light sensing pixel technology, to high speed video sensors, to SOCs (System on A Chip) with sophisticated image processing algorithms. OEMs is constantly looking to put the latest advances in imaging into products for our customers. Key specifications of such cameras are resolution, sensitivity, power consumption, manufacturing and packaging costs-as well as the overall size. drivers are passionate about imaging technology and that passion drives the innovation that makes no limit in imaging driving solutions. The recent improvements of CMOS image sensors would allow a further miniaturization. The main points in image sensor development are how to make their advantages even better and how to reduce their noise and sensitivity disadvantages.

This paper presents a method for rational behaviour recognition that combines vision-based pose estimation with knowledge modeling and reasoning. The proposed method consists of two stages. First, RGB-d images are used in the estimation of the body postures. Then, estimated actions are evaluated to verify that they make sense. This method requires rational behaviour to be exhibited. To comply with this requirement, this work proposes a rational RGB-d dataset with two types of sequences, some for training and some for testing. Preliminary results show the addition of knowledge modeling and reasoning leads to a significant increase of recognition accuracy when compared to a system based only on computer vision.

Constructing a full CAd model of a part requires feature descriptions from all sides; in this case we consider surface patches as the geometric primitives. Most previous research in surface patch extraction has concentrated on extracting patches from a single view. This leads to several problems with aligning and combining partial patch fragments in order to produce complete part models. We have avoided these problems by adapting our single view, range data segmentation program to extract patches, and thus models, directly from fully merged range datasets.

This paper describes a 3-d automated pavement distress data collection and analysis system based on NRC's Biris sensor technology. The paper introduces the problem to be solved, the selected design criteria, and the adopted solution to monitor the quality of road surfaces. The system geometry for the acquisition of the three-dimensional coordinates of pavement surface distresses is presented. Multiple feature extraction and system integration concepts are given with emphasis placed on the real-time processing of the raw data by a parallel array of processors. Advantages and disadvantages of this technology are discussed. System performances and experimental results are provided.
