Solar imaging is currently an active area of research. In this study a 3d modeling technique for magnetic field lines on Sun is provided. Magnetic field foot prints are detected from SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) / MdI (Michelson doppler Imager) Magnetogram images. Using negative and positive footprints possible dipole pairs are found according to their proximity. Then using this data, 3d models are built on bipolar coordinates and placed on detected pairs after transformations.

We try to give a - probably incomplete overview of these. Then, some of our recent work at ETH Zurich and the University of Leuven is discussed, where we try to tackle such outstanding issues.

Humans have been trying to imitate and represent the world visually since ancient time. With the development of technology and computational visualization, the transformation of the imaging techniques from conventional media to 3d scanning as a new representation method with digital data generated has been widely applied especially in the creative aspect in recent years. 3d scanning technology provides us a new insight to understand the formation and essence of photographic imaging, in which the 3-dimensional image formation provides us with more layers to understand the sensory and knowledge about time and space, cognitive of being, and the technological and creative evolution in art. This paper attempts to discuss the essential transformation in dimensional imagery with human factors and its aesthetic experiences through digital art means and philosophical approach.

A 3d shape characterization that allows establishing robust similarity measurements is presented in this paper. This characterization is based on a new extended curvature feature called Cone-Curvature (CC), built on top of the recent modeling Wave (W) topological organization for 3d objects modeling meshes. Through the CC feature, flexible and extended surroundings geometry knowledge for every point of the solid surface is given. In order to reduce the dimensionality of this representation and after carrying out a study of the principal components the Weighted Cone-Curvature (WCC) concept is defined This reduction notoriously simplifies the volume of data handled in the model without loss of information. As an application, a similarity measurement based on the WCC feature has been defined and implemented to compare and recognize 3d objects using their models. Both the principal components analysis and the similarity applications have been experimentally tested in our lab and the main results are shown in this work.

Three-dimensional ladar data are commonly used to perform scene understanding for outdoor mobile robots, specifically in natural terrain. One effective method is to classify points using features based on local point cloud distribution into surfaces, linear structures or clutter volumes. But the local features are computed using 3-d points within a support-volume. Local and global point density variations and the presence of multiple manifolds make the problem of selecting the size of this support volume, or scale, challenging. In this paper we adopt an approach inspired by recent developments in computational geometry [5] and investigate the problem of automatic data-driven scale selection to improve point cloud classification. The approach is validated with results using data from different sensors in various environments classified into different terrain types (vegetation, solid surface and linear structure)(1).

advances in imaging technology have led to vast improvements in fetal evaluation. Ultrasound examination is the primary method of fetal assessment because it is patient friendly, effective, and cost efficient and is considered to be safe. Magnetic resonance imaging is generally used when ultrasound cannot provide sufficiently high-quality images. It offers high-resolution fetal and placental imaging with excellent contrast. The objective here is to describe the combination of non-invasive medical imaging technologies and virtual reality systems in fetal medicine.

Piezoelectric Inkjet print heads have dominated in drop-on-demand (dOd) industrial and commercial market for last two decades, because they offer high jetting frequency, long life expectancy, and the ability to jet a wide range of fluids under harsh working conditions. Emerging market opportunities will require precise fluidic dispensing with tight dimensional and positional accuracy. Uniformity of orifice diameter, orifice plate thickness, and chamber dimensions across the entire print head helps achieve this goal. This paper focuses on some recent developments and discusses the principle of print head operation, modeling and simulation as well as some unique features such as accurate orifice manufacture, replaceable orifice - chamber plates, inert print head bodies, individual orifice jetting performance calibration, 4- inch print width, and a highly flexible design to adapt to a wide range of drop volumes and jetting fluids. Trident's 256 Jet has currently been developed to meet these applications.

The design and development of digital 3d work is a labour consuming but attractive task, particularly construction of realistic digital laboratories which has wide applications for engineering applications e.g. e-learning and practical training. This paper introduces a novel method for construction of an e-laboratory or digital laboratory using panoramic imaging. By extending our recent work on 3d panoramic imaging, the paper reports we use a structured light based panoramic imaging system for construction of our metrology laboratory. Within the panoramic environment, 3d objects can be selected and visualised in 3d for inspection and learning. After a discussion of the experimental work, conclusion and further work are presented.

The digital imaging and Remote Sensing laboratory's Image Generation model combines computer aided design, ray tracing techniques, radiometric principles, and thermodynamic models to create synthetic imagery. The model emphasizes rigorous radiometric solutions that account for spectral reflectance effects, angular emissivities, atmospheric transmission and upwelled and downwelled sky radiance. This paper describes enhancements to the radiometric portion of the code that permits inclusion of variations with azimuth of downwelling sky radiance, solution of the radiometric propagation models using specific radiosonde data including adjustments for the time of day, and the incorporation of background effects from objects adjacent to the target. Simulated scenes are presented that show how these enhancements produce imagery that more closely match observed phenomena. In particular, the importance of properly modeled sky radiance is shown both for low altitude oblique imagery where the sky is directly observed and for near nadir imagery where reflected sky radiance is important.
