This study aims at obtaining a patient specific 3d model of human knee joint from Computed tomography (CT) data via reverse engineering approach. CT scan data in digital imaging and communications in medicine (dICOM) format was loaded into deVide, medical image processing software to obtain 3d Computer aided design (CAd) model. The CAd model was saved in Stereolithography (STL) format, which was further processed in MeshLab and MagicsRP software to obtain error-free file. Static stress and deformation analysis at the joint was performed for Stainless steel (SS 316L) and CoCrMo alloy in ANSYS software. Anatomical model of the knee joint was fabricated on EOSINT P395 machine using PA2200 polyamide powder. Finite element analysis shows that CoCrMo alloy has lower deformation in comparison with stainless steel. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. In recent years, the development of high techniques in the field of computer graphics, computer vision and images processing has been widely studied and applied in geometric modeling. Especially, in the field of 3d modeling and reconstruction of a 3d object from 2d images. One of these researches is the field of medical image processing. It has been invested and developed by researchers, both in computer science and medicine. This paper presents a survey research on construction and reconstruction of a 3d object from a set of 2d medical images. We first review the existing methods for building a 3d object from 2d medical image slices in dICOM (digital imaging and Communications in Medicine) format. They come from measurement devices in medicine like X-ray Computerized Tomography (X-ray CT), Magnetic Resonance imaging (MRI), etc. Thereafter, we construct an application based on the VTK library for building, visualizing and handling a 3d object from these CT scanned slices. This application can support medical staffs and doctors in diagnostic and treatment of patients. © 2016 IEEE.

New paths for product lifecycle management methods and IT tools appeared throughout traditional products evolving to smart products due to recent information and communication technology innovations. While some led to new, disruptive solutions, for example, reconfigurable smart products during their use phase based on digital twins, some others support or even enhance existing product lifecycle activities. Focusing on the latter, this contribution introduces how digital twins can be used in early product development phases to support the testing and subsequential evaluation of prototypes. Therefore, a test management approach is described that allows the integration of digital twins of devices under test, following a systematical exploration of their potential benefit on real-time analysis during and after the test run. Finally, the results were prototypically implemented by modeling a test environment in a product lifecycle management tool, including managing and analyzing digital twins of product instances.

Concrete elements of steel or concrete bridges, such as piers, slabs, or girders, may exhibit various signs of surface distress or deterioration, most noticeably, cracks. Accurate mapping and monitoring of existing cracks is important to bridge deterioration modeling because some cracks may grow due to the effects of loads and environment but others may remain unchanged over time. The current practice of mapping concrete cracks is primarily manual, making accurate identification of crack growths difficult. The manual records are generally subjective and practically impossible to be complete and accurate. The required field operations can be time consuming and often cause traffic disruptions. recent advancements in digital imaging technologies, including equipment hardware and image processing techniques, make mapping of concrete cracks more objective, more complete, and more accurate. The use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), or drones, makes field data collection more productive and less disruptive to traffic. This paper discusses application of an advanced UAS for mapping existing concrete cracks on bridge piers. Topics include field data collection, 3d photogrammetric modeling, orthographic imagery, digital image processing for crack identification, as well as temporal subtraction for deterioration assessment. © 2019 9th international conference on Structural Health Monitoring of Intelligent Infrastructure: Transferring Research into Practice, SHMII 2019 - conference Proceedings. New instrumentation and bioimaging devices are needed for viewing, understanding, and modeling key metabolic processes in living organisms such as within and among microbial cells and microbial communities in terrestrial environments, and/or multicellular plant tissues. Unique features of digital holography can be exploited to produce a new type of microscope that will be useful to biologists in studying, understanding. and modeling dynamic cellular activity in living biological systems. digital holographic microscopy enables performing the functions of large expensive optics and precision translating devices with software operations that include machine learning and artificial intelligence to extract information more efficiently. The paper describes a project to develop an affordable, low footprint digital holographic microscope than can optically freeze a 4d space and enable microscopic study of dynamic events in a large volume at many instants of time. Thanks to recent advances in electronic imaging systems, computers, cameras, and memory, dHM holograms can now be recorded on small, lightweight, CCd or CMOS arrays at very high rates, processed in real time, and offer the many advantages associated with digital media. By transferring much of the overall optical process into electronics and software, dHM stores all optical information, transmitted and reflected from a biological volume of interest, in a hologram, enabling dynamic, microscopic imaging of the entire volume with a relatively small instrument, a capability that cannot be achieved with conventional imaging devices. The paper summarizes ongoing experiments and possibilities to analyze the hologram, directly, with machine learning techniques, avoiding the computationally costly step of reconstructing images.

Continuous improvement in optical sensing components, as well as recent advances in signal acquisition theory provide a great opportunity to reduce the cost and enhance the capabilities of depth sensing systems. In this paper we propose a new depth sensing architecture that exploits a fixed coded aperture to significantly reduce the number of sensors compared to conventional systems. We further develop a modeling and reconstruction framework, based on model-based compressed sensing, which characterizes a large variety of depth sensing systems. Our experiments demonstrate that it is possible to reduce the number of sensors by more than 85%, with negligible reduction on the sensing quality. © 2015 IEEE.

Nowadays, advanced invasive and non-invasive tests are required to diagnose diseases of the liver in human beings and for continuous monitoring of admitted patients. These diagnosis procedures are time-taking and also create trouble for patients. But invasive techniques are very painful or unsuitable for the admitted patients for continuous monitoring of the patient’s condition. Medical imaging supported by computer-aided modeling and analysis is very much suitable for the patient because of his comfort and time. imaging techniques such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) scans are very much capable of extracting sharp geometrical features of the liver and its parts such as hepatic veins (HV), portal vein, hepatic artery, and bile duct. In this study, a 3d virtual model of the HV was developed, and a computational fluid dynamics (CFd) analysis was performed using the patient's liver digital imaging and communications in medicine (dICOM) data, because the model extracted directly from dICOM data lacks internal features, making blood flow analysis impossible. Three-dimensional (3d) virtual models are easily analyzed to get the flow parameters of the blood inside the various veins and arteries. These flow parameters indicate the physical situation of veins and arteries in view of their condition monitoring and other ongoing situation of treatment. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
