Epileptic seizures are abnormal electrical activities in the brains of epilepsy patients. Seizure causes life threats due to sudden unconsciousness. An efficient seizure prediction technique can improve the lifestyle of epilepsy patients. In this article, raw EEG data are converted into images of EEG signals. The Convolutional neural network (CNN) is the most commonly used deep learning technique for efficient feature extraction from images. Hence, CNNis applied here for automatic feature extraction from images of EEG signals. CNN is also used to classify different states of epilepsy patients to predict seizures in advance. The achieved classification accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity are 0.9994, 0.9783, and 0.9083, respectively. The proposed method uses only six channels of EEG signals, which will be applicable for designing lightweight deviceswith less power consumption to run long periods in every recharge. The results indicate that the proposed method is one of the best among the state-of-the-art works.

Insulator defects are unavoidable due to long-term exposure and harsh natural environment. With the development of the computer vision and deep learning, researchers have been drawn to automatic unmanned aerial vehicle-based insulator inspection to improve power transmission safety. However, achieving full automation of fine-grained insulator defect detection is still very challenging due to the visual complexity of defects and the high-resolution image computation complexity. This study focuses on fine-grained insulator defect detection by vision Transformer based on deep learning. The proposed method is based on a Swin-Transformer framework, which focuses on learning hierarchical image feature representation computed with shifted windows scheme. Experiments were carried out on high-resolution image datasets to evaluate the performance of the proposed method for fine-grained insulator defect detection tasks. The results show that the method takes advantage of vision Transformer's capabilities and outperforms the state-of-the-art method in terms of mean average precision (mAP) at 94.2% when the intersection threshold over union is set to 0.5. © 2023 SPIE.

This paper explores the possibility of using visual object detection techniques for word localization in speech data. Object detection has been thoroughly studied in the contemporary literature for visual data. Noting that an audio can be interpreted as a 1-dimensional image, object localization techniques can be fundamentally useful for word localization. Building upon this idea, we propose a lightweight solution for word detection and localization. We use bounding box regression for word localization, which enables our model to detect the occurrence, offset, and duration of keywords in a given audio stream. We experiment with LibriSpeech and train a model to localize 1000 words. Compared to existing work [1], our method reduces model size by 94%, and improves the F1 score by 6.5%. © 2023 IEEE.

As robotics technology advances, quadruped robots are increasingly instrumental in diverse applications, including rescue operations and healthcare. However, the intricate operating conditions expose the components within the joint modules of these robots to alternating and impact loads. Consequently, research into signal processing and fault diagnosis techniques for planetary gearboxes in joint modules holds significant engineering importance. Given the challenges associated with fault signal extraction from planetary gearboxes, this study proposes a novel fault feature extraction method based on Time-Dependent Intrinsic Correlation (TDIC), integrated with a random forest classifier for fault classification. This approach leverages signal frequency analysis to adaptively extract segments characterized by high correlation among different physical field signals as fault features. The random forest model is utilized for fault classification and its performance is compared against CNN, KNN, and XGBoost models. Experimental results validate the superior fault classification efficacy of the proposed method. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, the pharmaceutical industry has been implementing automatic systems in their manufacturing and packaging processes. This has led to reduced risks, increased productivity, lower costs, and improved competitiveness. The adoption of Industry 4.0 principles and technologies has played a key role in automating processes and optimizing results. Therefore, this paper presents the design, implementation, and preliminary validation of an automatic palletizing and quality control system implemented in the solid drug production line. The proposed system incorporates two main technologies: intelligent computer vision and collaborative robotics, which are complemented with industrial-grade equipment and instruments. The computer vision system performs quality control on pallet boxes by detecting defects, tears, stains, and taping faults on each side of the boxes, as well as recognizing the text characters of the labels for subsequent processing. Additionally, a weight-based quality control is implemented to ensure that all boxes contain the exact number of solid drugs. Through preliminary validation tests, the viability of using this automated mechatronic system for the handling and quality control of boxes was demonstrated. The handling process was carried out using a robot, and it was determined that the robot can complete palletizing and quality control of a pallet of 21 boxes in a total of 11 minutes and 33 seconds. This innovative solution represents a successful application of Industry 4.0 principles and technologies in the pharmaceutical industry, enabling companies to further optimize their processes and remain competitive in the market. © 2023 IEEE.

Recent advancements in robot learning leverage large language models (LLMs) and sampling-based task and motion planning (TAMP) modules for automatic and scalable robot data generation. This method yields both success trajectories and a large number of failure trajectories. Prior works typically filter out failure data and adopt behavior cloning (BC) to train policy. However, this significantly reduces the sample efficiency of the method and results in a policy limited by the data collection behavior policy. In this paper, we introduce a vision-language-conditioned action-sequence diffusion policy and an action-sequence diffusion policy learning with Q-guided refinement for its training. We first redefine the reverse process of the diffusion model as the distribution of action sequences conditioned on visual observations and language instructions. We then employ BC to pretrain the policy on the success sub-dataset. Next, we optimize the action-sequence Q-value function by minimizing the temporal difference error across the complete dataset. Finally, we integrate guidance from the Q-value function into the BC loss of the reverse diffusion chain. Our method significantly outperforms baseline methods in terms of success rate and sample efficiency. By effectively leveraging failure data to optimize the policy, our method can achieve results comparable to those trained with the complete success sub-dataset while requiring 20%-30% less success data.

This article discusses the servo control technology for the automatic screw-tightening process of a robotic arm based on multiple visual sensors, aiming at the assembly requirements of complex spatial structural components. The study emphasizes the importance of automated screw-tightening processes in industrial automation to improve efficiency and product quality. Image processing and servo technology have been introduced to achieve precise control of the screw-tightening process. The research focuses on developing a distributed architecture to control robot arms and camera modules, process image information, and make servo adjustments based on perception data. Detailed introductions are given to the assembly control system model, visual observation scheme, image processing algorithms for hole recognition and screwdriver posture detection, as well as servo control mechanism. The goal of this work is to create an intelligent traffic signal control system that will enhance intersection traffic flow. The major goals are to reduce traffic congestion, expedite travel, and improve all-around road safety. To estimate traffic density in real time, the system uses image processing methods, specifically vehicle detection algorithms. The computer vision library is used to evaluate surveillance camera footage at traffic lights in order to precisely count vehicles and gauge traffic density. To detect vehicles and precisely count them, a variety of image processing techniques are applied, such as object recognition and background subtraction. The number of vehicles per area or lane is then taken into account when calculating traffic density. A central server receives this data for further processing. © 2023 IEEE.

In recent years, impressive results have been achieved in robotic manipulation. While many efforts focus on generating collision-free reference signals, few allow safe contact between the robot bodies and the environment. However, in human's daily manipulation, contact between arms and obstacles is prevalent and even necessary. This paper investigates the benefit of allowing safe contact during robotic manipulation and advocates generating and tracking compliance reference signals in both operational and null spaces. In addition, to optimize the collision-allowed trajectories, we present a hybrid solver that integrates sampling- and gradient-based approaches. We evaluate the proposed method on a goal-reaching task in five simulated and real-world environments with different collisional conditions. We show that allowing safe contact improves goal-reaching efficiency and provides feasible solutions in highly collisional scenarios where collision-free constraints cannot be enforced. Moreover, we demonstrate that planning in null space, in addition to operational space, improves trajectory safety. Further information is available at https://***/ContactReach/.

With the rapid development of China's electric power industry, the ensuing maintenance and overhaul work has become more and more burdensome. The traditional manual overhaul method has the problems of high risk and low efficiency, so it becomes very necessary to study the transmission line power-carrying operation robot. At present, the development of transmission line robots is rapid, but how to deploy robots safely and efficiently to transmission lines is still a very urgent problem. In this paper, we propose a visual servo control method for transmission line robot hanging line operation to address this problem, using binocular camera to measure the vertical distance between the robot and the transmission line, and using DeepLabV3+semantic segmentation network to identify the gap between the walking wheels and the transmission line, to ensure that the robot hangs on the transmission line safely. Finally, a robot hanging line operation experiment was carried out in the transmission line experimental site to verify the effectiveness and practicality of the visual servo control method proposed in this paper.
