Blockchain is a developing and promising field in transaction and identity management. Recent efforts have been underway to address issues of data insecurity and inefficiency presented by centralized systems. Philippine government agencies, like the Land Transportation Office (LTO), traditionally store information in centralized databases, which can be susceptible to unauthorized access. This study makes the case of decentralizing certain LTO online procedures, starting with driver’s license application, as well as identity management using blockchain technology. With an immutable, distributed ledger system, it aims to introduce security, transparency, and efficiency into the system through a proof-of-concept web application. It demonstrates that not only certain LTO procedures can be decentralized, but also the management of license ID, more specifically the selective disclosure of information to requesting parties. The design presented here lays the groundwork for developing a decentralized application through Hyperledger Fabric and Indy, leveraging features like consensus mechanisms, verifiable credentials (VCs), and self-sovereign identity (SSI). The initial evaluation of the design using Hyperledger Caliper sets the stage for further research on decentralization, scalability, and efficiency. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Text coherence analysis is an important and challenging task that is essential for subtasks such as automatic summarisation, viewpoint extraction and machine translation in natural language processing (NLP). A large body of previous work has used linguistic features such as lexical, syntactic and entity features to capture relatively shallow coherence features, while ignoring deeper logically relevant features hidden in the text. We propose an end-to-end English text coherence analysis model (RGCM for short) that incorporates RST and graph convolutional neural networks (GCN). The intra- and inter-sentence logical relations of the input text are first mapped onto a discourse relationship tree, and then transformed into an RST-dependent context graph by certain pruning strategies. Subsequently, we propose a GCN-based text coherence assessment framework to capture intra- and inter-sentence interactions to assess text coherence. We conducted experiments on two different coherence assessment datasets and achieved accuracy rates of 95.5% and 97.8% respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of new, groundbreaking applications has been made possible by the merging of AI, IoT, and blockchain technology. Yet, as the number of people who rely on these technologies grows, so to do their security worries. There is a risk that Internet of things (IoT) devices will be attacked using artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain technology is not immune to cyberattacks. New methods for securing AI, IoT, and blockchain infrastructure are the subject of active investigation as a means of resolving the security issues that have arisen. They include the creation of privacy-preserving strategies in blockchain networks, the use of machine learning to identify and prevent attacks, and the deployment of secure communication protocols in Internet of things devices. In addition, there may be further safety benefits from combining these technologies. For instance, blockchain can guarantee the honesty and openness of IoT data, whilst artificial intelligence can aid in the detection of irregularities in blockchain transactions. Whereas the combination of AI, IoT, and blockchain holds great promise, there are serious security concerns that must be solved before these technologies can be implemented without risk. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The scheduling problem for federated learning (FL) with multiple models in a distributed network is challenging, as it involves NP-hard mixed-integer nonlinear programming. Moreover, it requires optimal participant selection and learning rate determination among multiple FL models to avoid high training costs and resource competition. To overcome those chal-lenges, in literature the Benders' decomposition algorithm (BD) can deal with mixed integer problems, however, it still suffers from limited scalability. To address this issue, in this paper, we present the Hybrid Quantum-Classical Benders' Decomposition (HQCBD) algorithm, which combines the power of quantum and classical computing to solve the joint participant selection and learning scheduling problem in multi-model FL. HQCBD decomposes the optimization problem into a master problem with binary variables and small subproblems with continuous variables. This collaboration maximizes the potential of both quantum and classical computing, and optimizes the complex joint optimization problem. Simulation on the commercial D-Wave quantum annealing machine demonstrates the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method, with up to 18% improvement of iterations and 81% improvement of computation time over BD algorithm on classical CPUs even at small scales. © 2023 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a heterogeneous network composed of different types of wireless networks, such as wireless sensor networks (WSNs), ZigBee, Wi-Fi, AD Hoc, and RFID. However, the openness of the IoT environment, the diversity of services, and the limited energy of terminals make the security of IoT a serious challenge. Hence, we propose a distributed IoT trusted operation scheme based on dynamic trusted metric. The scheme combines the direct communication and the indirect recommended trustworthiness metric to calculate the final trustworthiness metric value of nodes. The recommendation trustworthiness confidence and recommendation deviation factors are introduced to reduce the risk of malicious recommendation, so that the trustworthiness metric results can reflect the trustworthiness status of nodes more realistically. On this basis, a trusted operation mechanism for terminal devices is proposed. Based on trustworthiness metric, this mechanism ensures the safe joining of trusted individuals, realizes the selection of terminal data transmission relay nodes, and maintains the secure and reliable operation of network environment. Simulation results show that our scheme can truly and effectively reflect the trustworthy state of nodes and outperforms similar trustworthy metric models in terms of energy consumption. © 2023 IEEE.

Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) becomes a fundamental subcategory of mobile ad-hoc networks that provides vehicles to communicate with each other and with roadside infrastructure smartly. Various VANET performance challenges are considered in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) due to vehicle speed and transmission rates. Different problems cause performance degradation as performance anomaly where high rates of vehicles have to meet the speed of the low rates vehicle while transmitting data. In this paper, a QoS-aware Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) admission control mechanism (QASAC) is proposed to handle the performance anomaly problem while maintaining the QoS levels for different traffic types. QASAC has been compared against the latest SNR based admission control mechanism. QASAC has enhanced the performance of data delivery up to 23% in terms of data dropping rates for high priority traffic. © 2023 ACM.

The advent of serverless computing has ushered in notable advancements in distributed machine learning, particularly within parameter server-based architectures. Yet, the integration of serverless features within peer-to-peer (P2P) distributed networks remains largely uncharted. In this paper, we introduce SPIRT, a fault-tolerant, reliable, scalable and secure serverless P2P ML training architecture. designed to bridge this existing gap. Capitalizing on the inherent robustness and reliability innate to P2P systems, we emphasized Intra-peer scalability for concurrent gradient to mitigate communication overhead from increased peer interactions. SPIRT, employs RedisAI for in-database operations, achieves an 82% reduction in model update times. This architecture showcases resilience against peer failures and adeptly manages the integration of new peers. Furthermore, SPIRT ensures secure communication between peers, enhancing the reliability of distributed machine learning tasks. Even in the face of Byzantine attacks, the system's robust aggregation algorithms maintain high levels of accuracy. These findings illuminate the promising potential of serverless architectures in P2P distributed machine learning, offering a significant stride towards the development of more efficient, scalable, and resilient applications. © 2023 IEEE.

Recent developments in the Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) industry have triggered the proliferation of Over-the-Air (OTA) update systems for vehicles, providing increased safety, efficiency, and convenience. However, with the increased adoption of these OTA update systems, the threat of distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks has become a major concern. DDoS attacks on OTA update processes could lead to the disruption of vehicular communication networks, resulting in the loss of control and putting the safety of the vehicles and passengers in jeopardy. To ensure the security of CAVs, it is essential to protect the OTA update process. In this paper, we propose a Hyperledger Fabric (HLF) blockchain-based Collaborative DDoS Attack Defense (CDAD) architecture on OTA update systems in CAVs. This collaborative approach provides a secure and resilient solution that ensures the integrity of the data and minimizes the risk of malicious actors disrupting the OTA update process. It allows multiple OTA service providers to collaborate in real time and protect against potential malicious cyber-attacks. The experimental results show that the system is able to detect and mitigate DDoS attacks with minimal latency and higher throughput while providing improved privacy and security. © 2023 IEEE.

Wireless Sensor systems (WSN) is a broad, exciting area with new perspectives and growing growth over the past decades, where more research is being done. WSNs contain many (hundreds of thousands) of micro-sized, cheap chips, powered by low-cost wireless interconnected batteries. These chips are called nodes, which could be of several types, including acoustic, radar, low-frequency magnetic, thermal, and visual sampling frequencies. Many applications are based nowadays on WSN, such as environmental control, smart cities, wildlife monitoring, vehicles and infrastructure, natural disasters, home security, underwater investigations, military, airplane surveillance and drone body sensors. One of the aims of the paper is to develop a smart architecture based on intelligent microprocessor sensors, WSN802GCA/GPA and the software needed to operate with a TINI control unit. TINI allows this system to be connected to Ethernet via TCP/IP © 2023 IEEE.
