The issue of extending the lifetime of Wireless sensor Networks (WSN) designed for Internet of Things (IoT) has been rigorously explored by researchers over the last two decades. IoT applications for real time are in demand for monitoring and complex analysis. In IoT, sensor nodes are powered by battery backup which is considered as energy constrain while performing various task. Maximizing the network lifetime of network nodes has become a challenging issue. In past researchers have focused on extending network lifetime of nodes through guarantee lifetime protocols, however some issues such as sensing coverage, scheduling and network connectivity are not been considered. Therefore, in this work energy efficient routing scheme (EERS) is proposed for duty cycled nodes by considering sleep/awake mode and increased data rates to achieve higher packet delivery ratio and to extend network lifetime and optimize the energy consumption of the network. Sleep/awake modes for nodes are periodically assigned by sink node based on nodes residual energy, coverage area and total active time. © 2022 IEEE

We present the design of a new inductive proximity sensor to detect metal targets and their direction of movement. The proposed sensor design includes a base board with the necessary microcontroller based circuitry for driving and reading the sensing LC tanks and several different solutions for the printed sensor coil. Different coil configurations are fabricated on separate printed circuit boards designed to plug-and-play into the base board. They are intended for different specific applications including for sensing metal targets approaching perpendicularly on the coil plane and for sensing and identifying the lateral direction of movement (i.e., left-to-right or right-to-left). The coil designs are studied via simulations using the freely available Numerical Electromagnetics Code (NEC). A complete hardware prototype is developed and demonstrated to detect different metal targets, including copper, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel. It is also shown that measurements obtained from hardware experiments are in good agreement with the simulations.

Cognitive Radio enables efficient spectrum utilization of the radio spectrum which is otherwise affected by inefficient allocation of resources. Dynamic spectrum access of channels is required to leverage the availability of unoccupied channels. Opportunistic access of the channels owned by the licensed users (known as Primary Users) can be performed by the unlicensed users (also known as Secondary Users). The secondary users operate without interfering in the primary user’s activity. Cognitive Radio finds numerous applications in Wireless sensor networks where efficient spectrum usage and energy conservation is of great importance. Clustering mechanisms are used to improve the energy efficiency of Cognitive Wireless sensor Networks (CWSNs). The conventional clustering mechanisms available are not much suitable for the CWSNs owing to the difference in nature of such networks. In this study a fuzzy logic-based adaptive clustering mechanism is proposed for CWSNs for reducing the energy consumption and improving the network lifetime. Experimental results show substantial improvement in terms of chosen parameters by using the proposed method in comparison with 4 other approaches.

Indoor positioning systems (IPS) continue to encounter significant challenges in achieving meter-level accuracy, particularly in large and intricate environments such as airports, hospitals, and industrial sites. Despite substantial advancements in technologies like Wi-Fi Fine Time Measurement (FTM), Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and 5G, their scalability and precision often suffer in dynamic, obstacle-laden settings. To enhance accuracy and adaptability, this study presents an innovative AI-driven sensor fusion technique that integrates machine learning models with various positioning technologies. This study achieves significant improvements in positioning accuracy through dynamic sensor input adjustments and real-time environmental awareness. Additionally, this study also includes results from a thorough evaluation of the system’s effectiveness across diverse practical applications, while exploring its potential uses within the Internet of Things (IoT) framework.

This publication describes our scientific journey to reach the 4th version of a spherical Mach Effect sensor apparatus. This paper focuses specifically on recent refinements to and past performance of this novel scientific instrument. Much has been learned over the past two decades (since version 1) about how and when our sensor array system enables the possible detection of an electromagnetic interaction appearing consistent with one attributable to a Machian inertial interaction. This paper describes the sensor array in sufficient detail for others to replicate our findings viewable in other publications. The joint probability that these 11 independent results could have been achieved by random chance is very low. The detector would appear to 'point' in the direction of one of three gravitational targets;the Sun, the center of our Milky Way galaxy or the center of our Virgo supercluster of galaxies. This work may challenge the current view of the role empiricism must play in building a more robust, fact-based and scientific view of reality. In this venue showcasing the latest technologies and applications in electrical, computer and mechatronic engineering we contend that a sensor system should be considered a scientific device based upon its ability to create repeatable evidence from nature, which our evolving devices now regularly do. © 2023 IEEE.

Off late we have seen an increase in the usage of IOT devices in various domains. Such devices are equipped with advanced data sensors that can gather environmental data, processing it to certain extent and transmitting them back to backend devices. This is possible due to reduction in computation cost, easy access to Wireless technologies and a plethora of sensors being made available to the end user. However, one of the open challenges in this regard is to be able to be complete the assigned task reliably within a specific period to be able to satisfy the latency requirements of latency sensitive applications. Since the IOT devices generally tend to have a limited amount of computing resource, it needs support from the backend computing machines that can perform a part of the heavy computation. In most cases these back end devices remain in the edge of the network are not offloaded to the cloud as high network latency is introduced otherwise. This makes Edge computing an ideal choice for Latency sensitive IOT applications. In this research paper we will be exploring the IOT based Edge Computing applications and Machine Learning Tools that are used for the same. © 2022 IEEE.

Human activity detection from sensor data has developed as a critical study subject with far-reaching implications in healthcare, sports, security, and beyond. This study proposes a unique way to reliably detect and categorise human actions using sensor data, leveraging sophisticated machine learning algorithms implemented with Python and the NumPy library. The combination of the Python programming language with the NumPy library provides rapid data manipulation and mathematical calculations, therefore permitting simplified implementation of the suggested technique. The source is made accessible to the scientific community, enabling openness, reproducibility, and continued development. Experimental findings using benchmark datasets indicate the usefulness of the proposed strategy, exhibiting great accuracy and resilience across varied human activities. The attained performance not only beats previous approaches but also illustrates the potential of the offered strategy in real-world applications.

Increasing needs of the human race in the healthcare sector demands extensive use of technology and innovations. Healthcare is one dynamic area which grabs the technology for providing optimal and patient-centric treatments. Emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain provides broad spectrum of applications that caters the needs of healthcare. Ambience in healthcare can potentially enhances the monitoring procedures and reduces errors related to the clinical procedures. This paper proposes a novel healthcare architecture that incorporates ambient intelligence in the healthcare platform. Blockchain is used as the backbone for the system to provide secured data storage and exchange between different stakeholders in the network. A hardware prototype based on Raspberry Pi Model 4B is developed to which sensors to capture body vital parameters are interfaced. A high-end computing system is used to host the machine learning algorithms which can detect abnormalities in the critical data received from the patient body and the same is reported to the concerned clinicians. This system also performs blockchain mining. The developed system found to be superior in terms of reliability and delay when compared to the existing models. Finally, to better understand the performance of various popular algorithms, a comparative analysis is performed in terms of mean average error (MAE), mean square error (MSE) and root mean square error (RMS). The system is viable and can provide seamless integrated of any existing models. © 2023 IEEE.

In this work, we show a photonic crystal hybrid external cavity laser (HECL) that can be used for refractive index sensing applications. To demonstrate its potential for integration we present the first demonstration of a fully integrated hybrid external cavity laser (HECL) in edge-coupling configuration by means of micro-transfer printing. The HECL is able to achieve single-mode regime over a wide range of driving currents with SMSR in the range of 40 dB. This platform provides a RI sensor characterized its compactness, simplicity of fabrication, compatibility with high throughput integration processes. © 2023 IEEE.
