With the increasingly busy lifestyles of people, advanced maintenance systems such as automated feeding has become of utmost importance to aquarium owners. Despite existing technologies, there remains a gap in smart feeding solutions tailored to the specific dietary requirements of different fish species and population sizes. This paper investigates smart fish feeding through automated detection, counting, classification and feeding of fishes within aquariums. As part of this paper, a smart population-driven aquarium maintenance system, named AquaTrack, is proposed that integrates Internet of Things (IoT), computer vision, machine learning, and sensor technologies. The system detects, classifies, and counts fish, adjusting feeding amounts based on species and population to mitigate the risks of overfeeding and underfeeding, which can significantly affect water quality. The system was evaluated through four research questions, where a general accuracy of 76.9% in fish species identification and 77.1% in fish counting were found. While promising outcomes were observed under specific conditions, variability and limitations in performance across different scenarios were also noted. Environmental factors such as lighting, reflections, shadows, and particulate matter affected the accuracies, particularly in scenarios involving smaller fish quantities. Based on these findings, the study recommends further refinement of the system to enhance its capabilities.

Accurate monitoring of temperature and concentration changes in biological samples is crucial for biomedical diagnostics and environmental monitoring. The development and mathematical modeling of a novel combined fiber-optic sensor integrating a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) within a single-mode optical fiber are presented in this paper. This integration enables simultaneous and precise measurements of temperature and refractive index changes in biological applications. The sensor's performance was modeled using transfer matrix methods and reflection/transmission coefficients to simulate spectral responses under varying conditions, including external refractive index, cavity length, grating period, induced refractive index change, and temperature effects. Results demonstrate that the combined sensor exhibits high sensitivity to temperature changes, with a temperature sensitivity of approximately 15–16 pm/°C, significantly surpassing traditional quartz-based sensors. It effectively detects minute variations in the refractive index of the external medium, such as changes in blood composition, allowing for distinction between healthy and diseased states. The enhanced capabilities of the combined FPI-FBG structure provide selective and improved detection compared to conventional sensors. The sensor can be interrogated using both spectral analysis and radio-photonic methods, contributing to increased precision and reliability in biomedical diagnostics, biochemical analysis, and environmental monitoring.

This paper presents an area efficient, low power data transmission circuit for CMOS image sensor (CIS). In this circuit, a novel analog $2: 1$ data selector with differential structure has been proposed, which reduces 62% power consumption and 70% layout area comparing with conventional circuits. The data transmission circuit with serializer and LVDS driver has been designed based on $1 \mathrm{P} 6 \mathrm{M} \quad 0.15 \mu \mathrm{~m}$ CMOS process with chip area of $2.31 \mathrm{~mm} \times 1.34 \mathrm{~mm}$, and it achieves a maximum transmission rate of 1.25Gbps with transmission energy efficiency of $2.88 \mathrm{pJ} / \mathrm{bit} / \mathrm{pF}$.

This project aims to develop an advanced and cost-effective solution to enhance safety in various environments by preventing collisions between objects. Employing Arduino microcontrollers and a range of sensors, the system operates in real-time to identify obstacles and take immediate corrective actions. Key components include ultrasonic sensors for accurate distance measurement, an Arduino microcontroller for data processing, and actuators such as motors or servos for executing avoidance maneuvers. By analyzing sensor data, the Arduino assesses obstacle proximity and triggers suitable responses to avoid collisions. The project introduces a flexible and scalable framework suitable for integration into different applications, including robotics, autonomous vehicles, and smart environments. Moreover, emphasis is placed on user-friendly customization, allowing end-users to adjust system parameters and behaviors according to specific requirements. Addressing the growing need for safety solutions in autonomous systems, robotics, and IoT applications, the Collision Avoidance System represents a significant advancement in reliable collision avoidance technologies. In the last several years, wireless Battery Management Systems (BMS) have slowly become a topic of interest from both academia and industry. It came from a necessity derived from the increased production and use in different systems, including electric vehicles. Wireless communication allows for a more flexible and cost-efficient sensor installation in battery packs. However, many wireless technologies, such as those that use the 2.4 GHz frequency band, suffer from interference limitations that need to be addressed. In this paper, we present an alternative approach to communication in BMS that relies on the use of Near Field Communication (NFC) technology for battery sensor readouts. Due to a vital concern over the counterfeited battery pack products, security measures are also considered. To this end, we propose the use of an effective and easy to integrate authentication schema that is supported by dedicated NFC devices. To test the usability of our design, a demonstrator using the targeted devices was implemented and evaluated.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is playing a significant role in emerging technologies such as the internet of things, smart nature applications, and many other self-configured, autonomous applications. In Energy constrained WSN energy depletion is the main problem. As the energy of the nodes is an important and precious resource, so efficient use of energy resources has a useful impact on the network in terms of the overall life period. In this work, the clustering-based routing algorithm is proposed for the efficient use of energy resources. The clustering scheme considers load balancing. Moreover, the cluster head (CH) rotation by inter-cluster selection method based on the proposed energy consumption model and distance calculation manages the energy usage of sensor nodes. Simulation results show that our proposed algorithm improves the performance by 60% than LEACH (Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy) algorithm in the case of average energy consumption and network life period that ultimately helps to build an energy-efficient WSN.

Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) are increasingly employed in applications requiring high reliability, such as industrial monitoring, military operations, and structural health evaluations. One of the main research issues in Directional Wireless sensor Networks (DSNs) is area coverage. The area coverage problem, also known as MCMS, is a well-known fundamental problem which involves maximizing the sensing area coverage percentage of perception area with the minimum possible sensors. Also, area coverage is a significant difficulty for Directional Wireless sensor Networks (DSNs). DSNs, unlike omnidirectional sensors, require careful selection of both sensor nodes and detection orientations to maximize coverage. This paper suggests a grid-based method for choosing the cluster head $(\mathcal{CH})$ and setting up its communication sector to get the best area coverage, thus we propose an area coverage aware grid based clustering (ACAC) solution. In this study, we aim to achieve two main objectives: first, selecting $\mathcal{CH}$ to collect and transmit data from the sensor to the sink node. Second, choosing feasible communication sector based on the grid count values among multiple sectors. Furthermore, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithms through existing work.

Performance and efficiency of Wireless sensor Networks are significantly impacted by sensor placement and network connectivity. Proper sensor deployment within a target area directly affects the operational efficiency of network, coverage, along with overall performance. Additionally, a well-organized interconnection scheme is essential for smooth communication between sensor nodes and the base station (sink). This paper offers an in-depth review of the challenges related to placement and connectivity in wireless sensor networks, focusing on the latest advancements in sensor technologies and network design. It explores various algorithms and strategies for optimal sensor placement, including deterministic, heuristic, and optimization-based approaches. Furthermore, the paper discusses connectivity solutions such as multi-hop communication, relay node deployment, and innovative techniques for network restoration and coverage enhancement. By analyzing current research and experimental results, this review highlights the trade-offs and benefits of different methods across various wireless sensor network applications, including terrestrial, underwater, and multimedia networks. The insights provided aim to guide future research and practical implementations in wireless sensor network design, ensuring improved network performance and reliability.

As a result of harsh environmental and operational conditions, the insulation system of transformer degrades, resulting in a reduced useful life. Transformer insulation degradation produces a variety of insulation degradation compounds and dissolved in oil. The concentration of these compounds in oil can be used to assess the health of an oil immersed transformer. In order to determine the ageing of insulation systems and the condition of transformers, 2-FAL (2-furfuryldehyde) and moisture are important degradation components. Hence, A Thin film made of graphene oxide have been used to detect moisture levels in transformer oil and 2-FAL levels. Capacitive sensors using molecular imprinted polymerization have been proposed to detect 2-FAL levels at ppm levels. Interdigitated electrode capacitive sensor has been utilized in numerous applications at low frequency. An of output capacitance variation was monitored with and moisture content to evaluate sensor performance. Therefore, sensor performance has been simulated for the IDT sensor with variable capacitance. It is particularly advantageous to fabricate interdigitated electrode structures on the patterned Cu foil using printed circuit board technology rather than using other technologies to fabricate this type of sensor.

Batteryless energy harvesting IoT sensor nodes such as beat sensors can be deployed in millions without the need to replace batteries. They are ultra-low-power and cost-effective wireless sensor nodes without the maintenance cost and can work for 24 hours/365 days. However, they were not equipped with security mechanisms to protect user data. Data encryption and authentication can be used to secure beat sensor applications, but generating a secure cryptographic key is challenging. In this paper, we proposed an SRAM-based Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) combining a high-reliability bit selection algorithm with a lightweight error-correcting code to generate reliable secure keys for data encryption. The system employs a feature of beat sensors, in which the microcontroller is powered on to transmit the ID signals and then powered off. This fits the SRAM-based PUF requirement, which needs the SRAM to be powered off to read out its random values. The proposed system has been evaluated on STM32 Cortex M0+ micro controllers and has been implemented to protect important data on beat sensors.
