This paper presents the development of a relative capacitance sensor for the classification of oil palm fruit maturity, using a systems engineering approach. This sensor is based on capacitive sensing technologies that require integration to productive processes as data sources. Systems engineering is suited for the development of complex systems based primarily on novel sensing technology that requires integration at the component, subsystem, and system levels. The goal is to provide a reliable and efficient method for assessing the maturity of fruit bunches, both in the harvest phase and in the production phase, which can ultimately contribute to improving the quality and yield of palm oil production. This study seeks to advance the frontier of precision agriculture and increase the efficacy of contemporary agricultural practices.

IoT technologies together with AI, and edge computing will drive the evolution of Smart Cities. IoT devices are being exponentially adopted in the urban context to implement real-time monitoring of environmental variables or city services such as air quality, parking slots, traffic lights, traffic flows, public transports etc. IoT observations are usually associated with a specific location and time slot, therefore they are spatio-temporal collections of data. And, since IoT devices are generally low-cost and low-maintenance, their data can be affected by noise and errors. For this reason, there is an urgent need for anomaly detection techniques that are able to recognize errors and noise on sensors' data streams. The Spatio-Temporal Behavioral Density-Based Clustering of applications with Noise (ST-BDBCAN) algorithm combined with Spatio-Temporal Behavioral Outlier Factor (ST-BOF) employs both spatial and temporal dimensions to evaluate the distance between sensor observations and detect anomalies in spatial time series. In this paper, a Python implementation of ST-BOF and ST-BDBCAN in the context of IoT sensor networks is described. The implemented solution has been tested on the traffic flow data stream of the city of Modena. Four experiments with different parameters' settings are compared to highlight the versatility of the proposed implementation in detecting sensor fault and recognizing also unusual traffic conditions.

Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) are fundamental to the development of advanced medical devices and diagnostic tools for biomedical applications and smart healthcare. They offer significant advantages in performance, power efficiency, and miniaturization, which are essential for meeting the stringent requirements of modern medical technologies. However, the adoption of ASICs is often hindered by challenges such as long design cycles, high development costs, and limited application scope. Traditionally, the design of ASICs for biomedical applications has been driven by the assumption that each application requires a unique, customized solution. While this may be true from a clinical perspective, a technological analysis reveals common requirements across different biomedical applications, such as signal acquisition, amplification, filtering, and data processing. This work proposes a shift toward a multimodal design strategy using Universal Multimodal Actuator sensor Chips (UMASCs). It presents an analysis of the design considerations for implementing UMASCs in biomedical contexts, exploring their potential to standardize hardware across clinically diverse techniques. © 2025 IEEE.

The purpose of this study is to create a LoRa-based smart farming management and surveillance system. Utilizing Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) in rural settings, with the aim of replacing the existing technology in agricultural monitoring systems. A dedicated private network server is established and connected to a gateway, which gathers information or signals from the nodes at the end and sends this data to the cloud without the need for routers. This data can then be utilized for various applications by the end users. The system overcomes issues related to communication failures and energy-efficient data transmission. This advanced farming platform enhances the effectiveness of farming methods. The proposed methodology is the application of resources including as water, fertilizers, and pesticides should be optimized in order to achieve maximum efficiency while simultaneously minimizing waste. Farming productivity and sustainability are both significantly improved because of its contribution, notably in terms of the efficient management of resources. And intelligent cities used to improve agriculture—comparing the planned weather station and the numerous developed patents. The technique here is like a cutting-edge, reasonably priced choice for local weather monitoring.

Over the last decade, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have caused a lot of interest in cellular or mobile computing research groups. applications for WSN are numerous and growing, spanning from indoor deployment in the home or workplace to outdoor deployment in an adversary’s area in an army battleground. Thanks to recent advances in wireless networking and Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs), mobile computing technologies are expanding at an unprecedented rate. Wires were used to connect equipment in homes and businesses via telephone and cable companies. Nowadays, cellphone technology is popular. Effective MANETs face numerous problems and challenges. Many problems and obstacles confront effective MANETs. To travel from one host to another, a packet must transit through many interconnected networks. Existing protocols cannot route in MANETs due to network difficulties. VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc scanner) is an emerging innovation that has received a lot of notice in recent years. Energy Efficient Routing in Mobile sensor Networks describes the structure of mobile sensor networks as well as analyses and studies different academic papers in this field.

Recent advances in Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technologies make their use as data collection sinks feasible for practical applications of Wireless sensor Networks (WSN). Using UAVs as mobile data collection agents can improve network performance by reducing the horizontal radio pollution in animal sanctuaries or conservations, for example. This may also positively improve energy consumption of both UAV and sensor nodes (SN) on the ground. Designing an efficient UAV trajectory which has the capability of data gathering from randomly distributed large number of SNs has been one of the challenges for the UAV-aided WSN data gathering solutions. This paper aims at conceptualizing a solution for UAV path planning in gathering data of distributed wireless sensors over a large space. Both efficient flight path and dynamic orchestration of sensor grouping are considered as two key factors for improving the flight performance in data collection. Herein, a classical Travel Salesman Problem (TSP) solution supported by the ground group offerings are used for manipulating a simplified centroid-based trajectory and turning it into a more relaxed fuzzy route. This in turn would offer a ground for smoother and more efficient flight paths. While preliminary modelling of the approach offers encouraging results, the demand for fluidity in dynamically re-orchestrating the ground sensor networks must be carefully considered. Successful implementation of this concept would support a wide range of applications such as the farming and conservation used cases.

The necessity of FET-Biosensors in many fields has prompted the development of considerably more easily than traditional tests. As signal-to-noise ratio, sensing surface properties, and other accurate and potent biosensors, since they can gather information more quickly and quantitative and qualitative performance parameters will eventually be taken into account, this paper will primarily focus on these parameters to discuss the current challenges in device design. According to UN DESA (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs) urban population will become 66 percent of the planet's population by 20501. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are confirmed as rapid, efficient, lowcost and flexible acquisition systems for remote sensing data with high-resolution and accuracy (sub-meter to few centimeters)2. The urban environment observed at large scale is dynamic and ever changing due to the human activities, which is a real opportunity for UAV and its urban applications such as management of urban infrastructure3 building observation4, urban land cover classification using airborne LiDAR5 and automatic feature extraction for UAV-based cadastral mapping6. A typical photogrammetric UAV workflow consists of flight planning, image acquisition, camera calibration, image orientation and data processing, which can result in Digital Surface Models (DSMs), orthoimages and point clouds7. In this paper, we perform a rapid, multi UAV data acquisition on the territory Bulgarian city of Stara zagora for a single day. 3 fixed-wing UAV, model eBeeX, manufactured by the company AgEagle Aerial Systems, was used in the present survey. The urban mapping area covered by the drones is 31.215 km2. To gather the necessary information, the platform is equipped with a dedicated integrated photogrammetric sensor S.O.D.A with RTK functionality. All the imagery captured by the three drones are postprocessed in Pix4D Mapper v4.8. Highly accurate 3D point cloud, digital surface model (DSM) and high-resolution and accuracy orthophoto map are produced. The results obtained by the drones have a spatial resolution of 5cm per pixel and vertical accuracy between 5 - 10 cm. All the results are exported and published in easy-to-use formats. © 2024 SPIE.
