This paper presents a novel approach for air pollution monitoring using Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) with unique optical properties. Through Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations in COMSOL, the study explores how the PCF’s guiding characteristics are influenced by its geometric parameters at different wavelengths. The sensor, designed for enhanced sensitivity, selectivity, and fast response, focuses on detecting air pollutants. A microstructured core in the PCF enhances light-matter interaction, improving sensor performance. The optimized PCF structure ensures effective light confinement, enabling precise detection of environmental changes like temperature and refractive index variations. The results have significant potential for telecommunications, biomedicine, and environmental monitoring applications, contributing to advanced air pollution control technologies.

This paper explores the design and performance of a photonic crystal fiber-based surface plasmon resonance (PCF-SPR) sensor for detecting different types of carbonated drinks. The sensor geometry was optimized and analyzed using the Finite Element Method (FEM), with Random Forest employed to predict and enhance its sensitivity. Input parameters such as core diameter, cladding structure, and gold layer thickness were varied, generating a dataset for training the RF model. Experimental simulations revealed that the sensor achieved a maximum sensitivity of 22,000 nm/RIU, with a minimum wavelength resolution of 4.55 × 10 −5 RIU. Accurately detecting carbonation levels in drinks ensures quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction in the food and beverage industry. Moreover, monitoring alcohol content in beverages is essential for regulatory compliance and product labeling, as well as for meeting consumer expectations. The ability to analyze alcohol levels alongside carbonation adds a new dimension to beverage quality assessment, offering a comprehensive solution for manufacturers. Random Forest demonstrated superior predictive capabilities, reducing computational overhead by 93% compared to traditional optimization techniques. This work demonstrates a novel approach for integrating machine learning into PCF-SPR sensor design, paving the way for applications in beverage quality control and aligning with Industry 5.0 and supporting sustainable technology.

Pressure sensors, including piezoresistive, piezoelectric, resonance, and capacitive sensors have been used in various applications. High pressure sensitivity, low power consumption, and higher stability are the most advantages of capacitive pressure sensors. In this paper, a slotted Zinc Sulfide (ZnS) capacitive pressure sensor (CPS) is modeled using COMSOL Multiphysics. The deflection, which affects on the operation of the membrane under pressure, is considered. Also, the capacitance is calculated for a slotted square shape. We found good performance in measuring the change in capacitance under applied pressure ranging from 0 to 18 kPa. Furthermore, a better sensitivity value of 0.011 pF/kPa with a 3 um gap value has been achieved.

Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) are networks of independently operating, geographically distributed sensors that monitor real-world objects or measure environmental factors and broadcast the data to a base station in the network. Physical, chemical, and biological sensors are the three major categories of sensors. The Wireless sensor Networks are made up of a data distribution network and a network for data acquisition. A central station oversees and manages the networks. When compared to traditional ad hoc networks, wireless sensor networks are a great alternative. Using wireless sensor networks, it is possible to monitor a wide range of factors, including temperature, humidity, pollution levels, and many more. Wireless sensor Networks applications related to disaster management include tsunami, earthquake, flood monitoring, landslide detection, volcanic eruption, drought, and forest fire detection. Wireless sensor networks make use of technologies that can send out an alarm for an instant rescue effort to start in a disaster area. This paper surveys different systems of Wireless sensor Networks in Natural Disaster Management for Emergency Alerting and monitoring operations.

In this paper, we address the lack of standardisation in mapping and data storage in robotics and agriculture, aiming to effectively represent and store spatial, semantic, and temporal data for both applications. We propose a novel approach that integrates data from various sources, such as robotic and static sensors, to create comprehensive maps crucial for precision agriculture. Our architecture bridges the gap between robotics and agriculture domains, managing the storage of robotics sensor data and structured data. We combine technologies from context brokers, databases and object storage to integrate multi-modal data to enable more context-aware decision-making, paving the way for advancements in robotics and precision agriculture. Our proposed framework is open-source and available on our repository 1

Arrangement of Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) has a growing interest in the last few years. It also contains many sensor nodes which are mainly used in applications like healthcare systems, habitat monitoring and structural monitoring. But, the achievement of energy efficient wireless communication is considered as one of the main challenges in WSN. These challenges can be overcome by integrating sensor nodes with the antenna to achieve low energy consumption and enhance the network lifetime during transmission. For that purpose, the double L slotted microstrip patch antenna is designed for WSN applications. Because, this type of antenna structure contains the radiator which acts as a reflector or director with parasitic elements on each side. Moreover, Sea Lion Optimization (SLO) algorithm is proposed to optimize the antenna design parameters to achieve better frequency range for WSN integrated antennas. The simulations are done in the High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) tool, along with the Python platform for performance analysis and parameter optimization. © 2021 IEEE

Prognostic and health management (PHM) technology is an important technical means to achieve condition based maintenance, improve system reliability and reduce system maintenance costs. Based on the analysis of the related theories and technologies of PHM technology and its development at home and abroad, this paper constructs a PHM technology framework based on object layer, data layer, information layer and decision layer. At the same time, the paper summarizes and analyzes the connotation and technology realization of key technologies such as predictive design, sensor application technology, data preprocessing technology, health status assessment, residual life prediction and maintenance decision-making based on the situation, and further, analyzes the PHM system of UAV with examples. Finally, combined with the current research status, the problems still need to be solved are pointed out, which is of great significance to the research of PHM technology theory and application. © 2021 IEEE.

Microcontroller units (MCUs) are often used in Internet of Things nodes that operate intermittently. Such nodes alternate active and inactive phases under strict energy constraints. Typically, the memory system has a significant impact on overall MCU energy consumption. Memory accesses and memory leakage power often dominate the consumption of active and inactive phases, respectively. Emerging Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) technologies have recently enabled the design of nonvolatile MCUs that can significantly reduce energy consumption during inactive phases. However, replacing all memories with emerging NVMs is not necessarily the best solution, as it often results in dynamic power overhead during active phases. Instead, a hybrid memory architecture that combines volatile and non-volatile technologies is a promising alternative. However, designing hybrid memory MCUs is challenging because the technology that best fits a data segment depends on its access pattern during execution (e.g., program memory experiences mostly reads while the stack alternates reads and writes). For a given intermittent application, our goal is to find the best memory architecture based on a data mapping that takes advantage of the different properties of the available memory technologies. To this end, we present MemCork, a tool for hybrid memory architecture exploration in intermittent computing devices. Based on an instrumented execution on a technology-agnostic FPGA prototype, our tool exhaustively explores the possible data mapping and memory architecture combinations to find the most energy-efficient solution. We evaluate MemCork on two representative intermittent applications and find a customised memory architecture and data mapping that reduces energy consumption by up to 23% compared to a fully NVM solution.

This paper proposes a low-noise AFE based on a capacitive transimpedance amplifier (CTIA) for wearable PPG sensors. By separating noise from the PPG signal, the proposed AFE applies chopping technique to the CTIA for reducing flicker noise and input-referred offset. Resistive DAC (RDAC) is adopted to substitute the conventional current DAC to suppress the noise in the dual compensation loop by replacing the high transistor noise with the lower resistor thermal noise. In $0.18-\mu \mathrm{m}$ CMOS, the proposed AFE under 1.2 V consumes $68 \mu \mathrm{~W}$ power with an equivalent input-referred noise of $\mathbf{1 5. 3 2}$ pArms. Compared with the related works, the proposed AFE reduces noise by 45.3% ~ 83.3% with comparable power consumption and silicon area.

Adaptive sampling is a signal processing technique used in various aerospace applications. Many adaptive algorithms used for instrumentation and telemetry systems process the signal in the frequency domain, which leads to high computational cost and power. ASA-m solves this problem by performing all operations in the time domain. It estimated the subsequent sampling frequency to collect meaningful information based on mean velocity prediction. This novel algorithm is implemented on the Spartan 3E FPGA board to study the device power and hardware utilization for real-time vibration signal datasets. The significant recovery of data with a lesser number of samples and lower hardware utilization for the state of art algorithm ASA-m is brought out in this paper. © The Electrochemical Society
