Blind spots are a significant contributor to car accidents, prompting continuous efforts by automakers to develop technologies aimed at mitigating this issue. In this context, the use of object detection sensors that facilitate communication between drivers in blind spots has gained traction. This study addresses the pressing concern of road accidents in Indonesia, where statistics reveal a rising trend. By employing fuzzy logic with the Sugeno method, this research proposes a blind spot object detection system for trucks. The system integrates five ultrasonic sensors strategically positioned at the front, left, right, and rear sides of the truck, coupled with fuzzy logic algorithms to process the sensor data. Visual and auditory warning signals, such as buzzers and LEDs, are utilized to alert drivers of potential hazards. The device incorporates input values derived from observation results, utilizing the coefficient value of the sensor distance data. The validity test, employing R2 (R Square), reveals a remarkably strong correlation. This conclusion is supported by the author’s meticulous observation of distance data from each sensor, performed 30 times, which yielded an average correlation value of 0.99. The proposed system showcases its efficacy in addressing blind spot-related risks and promises improved road safety through intuitive decision-making mechanisms that are easily comprehensible to drivers.

There has been an immense growth in sensors, actuators, and smart devices in recent years, which enable us to better sense, actuate, and understand the physical world. Despite this growth, we have yet to achieve fully intelligent environments. This is, in part, due to the large number of different organizations creating smart devices with proprietary technologies and communication protocols that are not compatible with each other and require significant engineering to incorporate and adapt to specific applications. In this work, we present an easy-to-install and low-cost embedded platform that allows users to rapidly configure a mixture of sensors and actuators. The system is based on the commonly-used Raspberry Pi ecosystem, easily configurable, and does not require users to have prior knowledge of programming, which allows anyone, regardless of background, to use. We also introduce a battery-powered wireless extension module that is suitable for mobile drone applications, where a chord-powered Raspberry Pi is not suitable. We demonstrate the impact our system has on enabling drones with flexible sensing modalities and creating smarter environments by integrating our platform into a variety of intelligent home applications. © 2022 Owner/Author.

Underwater Wireless sensor Networks (UWSNs) consist of sensor nodes deployed underwater to monitor and collect data on aquatic environments, essential for applications like military surveillance, environmental monitoring, and oil & gas exploration. This research tackles the challenge of energy-efficient communication in UWSNs, which face issues such as limited bandwidth, high signal attenuation and propagation delays due to water currents and temperature variations. The existing Neighboring-Based Energy-Efficient Routing (NBEER) protocol, while useful, overlooks these environmental factors, resulted to inefficient energy use and reduced network performance. To address this, a Dynamic Neighbor Adaptation (DNA) scheme was developed and integrated into NBEER, allowing the protocol to dynamically select Neighbor Head Nodes (NHNs) based on real-time network conditions and environmental factors. This adaptation improves load balancing and network stability. Simulated using MATLAB R2023b, the improved DNA-EERP protocol achieved a reduced end-to-end delay of 47.55s, lower total energy consumption of 9.16J, a higher packet delivery ratio of 83.95%, increased the number of alive nodes to 232, and improved the number of packets received to 26,050. These results demonstrate significant improvements in network stability, energy efficiency, and overall performance.

This paper explores contemporary agricultural practices and cutting-edge technologies to improve crop yields. Implementing an intelligent greenhouse model that automates farm tasks, minimizing manual intervention. The closed structure of the greenhouse shields plants from adverse weather conditions such as temperature extremes, humidity fluctuations, and variations in air and soil moisture. The study introduces an innovative automatic irrigation system to address the shortcomings of traditional agricultural irrigation methods, emphasizing efficient water consumption control and energy utilization. The proposed system integrates a distributed wireless sensor network, including soil moisture, humidity, and temperature sensors, utilizing the Blynk cloud-based IoT platform and ThinkSpeak, Soil moisture and temperature sensors feed data to NodeMCU V3 ESP8266 WiFi transceiver module controller, A key feature is integrating Android applications and web servers, enabling remote control and monitoring. This technological innovation ensures control over water and energy resources and changes climates, thereby creating sustainable and technologically driven agrarian practices.

This study demonstrates a simple approach to enhance the sensitivity and reduce the power consumption of a fluorescence quenching based gas sensor using a silicon based encapsulation as the optical reflector (Fig. 1). The design consists of a CMOS-MEMS gas sensor, a blue LED, and a silicon optical reflector integrated using the bonding technologies (Fig.1a). Moreover, the gas sensor containing the vertically integrated photo sensor, resistive temperature detector (RTD), thermal isolation trenches, and cavities for gas sensing materials is implemented using the TSMC 0.35 mu m CMOS process (Fig. 1b). The gas concentration is detected on the basis of the fluorescence intensity measured by the photo sensor on the CMOS platform [1] [2]. This design has three merits: (1) simple approach to integrate the optical reflector to sensing chip to enhance the performances of gas sensor, and wafer level packaging can be achieved for future applications, (2) the reflector could reflect and redirect the high intensity emitting light from the top-side of LED to enhance the sensitivity of gas sensor (Fig. 1b), and (3) the power consumption of the LED as well as the gas sensor can be reduced. In applications, the concentration of O-2 is measured. Measurement results show the sensitivity of gas concentration for the proposed design with reflector and the reference design without reflector are 0.26 mu A/% (O-2/N-2) and 0.019 mu A/% (O-2/N-2) respectively. Moreover, the LED driving current reduced from 100 mA to 20 mA by adding the reflector (reducing power consumption for blue-LED).

Peritoneal dialysis is a regular treatment for a patient who is at 'Stage Five” of chronic kidney disease (CKD)., which is also known as 'end-stage” renal failure. Similar to the hemodialysis procedure., a peritoneal dialysis patient needs to undergo a 4-hour treatment., 3 times a week., which limits the daily movement or personal activities. Quite recently., the Institute of Microengineering and Nanoelectronics (IMEN) has develop a prototype of a portable peritoneal dialysis module., which requires a flow-rate sensor as the most important component to monitor the peritoneal dialysis fluid-flow. However., this sensor., which is using sonar - an ultrasound technology - is expensive. This limitation has been a bottleneck in producing a low-cost., reliable., and affordable solution. Therefore., this paper presents a design concept and preliminary research work of using a light-emitting diode (LED) and photodiode (PD) pair as an alternative flow-rate sensor for the developed portable peritoneal dialysis module. With a unique arrangement of the LED-PD pair., an optical flow-rate sensing mechanism can be achieved by considering the intensity., incident angle., and separation distance between the LED and the PD. The LED-PD pair offers the advantages of being a low-cost., non-invasive approach and has the potential for use in many emerging applications.

This study presents the design and performance analysis of a flexible ultraviolet (UV) sensor based on ZnO, PEDOT, and WO 3 , primarily intended for smart wearable devices. Simulations conducted using Silvaco TCAD confirmed the sensor's exceptional detection capability and high sensitivity within a UV intensity range of 0.1 to 10 mW/cm2, demonstrating a strong linear relationship between the current output and UV light intensity. The interaction between the materials ZnO, PEDOT, and WO 3 at the interfaces enhances charge separation and transport efficiency, significantly boosting the overall photoelectric performance. Notably, the WO 3 layer changes color rapidly under UV exposure, providing immediate visual feedback that enables users to intuitively perceive the extent of UV exposure. This colorimetric response not only increases the practicality of the sensor but also offers real-time health and safety monitoring for users. This research underscores the potential of integrating flexible UV sensors into smart wearable technologies, promising to enhance user safety and health monitoring through intuitive user experience.

The need for battery powered wearable gadgets has risen dramatically as the healthcare system has progressed. Unfortunately, these bio-medical signals are analog in nature and needs to be transformed to digital form before further processing. In a bio-medical sensor system, the bio-medical signal is first given to an analog front-end to raise signal amplitude and pre-process it. Later, it is converted in digital form to make use of digital signal processors (DSPs) with the help of analog to digital converter (ADC). One of the main blocks of ADC is SAR logic which uses D flip flops for realization. In this paper, a new logic ("D Logic") has been proposed which reduces the number of transistors required to implement the SAR logic by 18.53%, as well as power dissipation. The 10-bit ADC has been designed in 90 nm CMOS process using Cadence Virtuoso. The overall power consumption of the proposed SAR ADC is 67.53 µW.

Gesture recognition systems are changing how people interact with devices, promising natural and intuitive hands-free control in various applications. Based on the ESP32 microcontroller and machine learning techniques, the proposed work is developing a compact, power-efficient system for recognizing hand gestures from data gathered by flex sensors and accelerometers. The entire system fits within memory constraints, as lightweight machine learning models are first trained on a computer using Python and then ideally deployed in optimized versions onto the ESP32. In this respect, the stream of pre-processed sensor data happens to be fed to the ML model for inference, sending back results to the ESP32, which hence triggers specific actions or commands. This fundamentally new approach shows the feasibility of machine learning on resource-constrained platforms, opening the road for wearable technologies that will be more clever and reactive.

Underwater wireless sensor networks (UWSNs) has increased the growing body of researchers from both academia and commercial enterprises due to their vast resourceful applications in underwater environments. With the advances in science and technology, research on underwater can be directed by the real time mechanism of sensor nodes and autonomous devices at different levels. The criterion for significant explorations defined with relevance to technology oriented. Also, UWSNs differs from terrestrial wireless networks in terms of sensor nodes deployment, communication capabilities, energy consumption and optimal computing techniques. This paper surveyed the recent proposed software defined architecture for UWSNs. In addition, the research paper revealed the summary of software defined architecture in UWSNs together highlights the potential directions and future research exploration in the field of underwater network environments. © 2021 IEEE.
