People with visual impairments face difficulties navigating unfamiliar areas, restricting their daily activities. They often require help from others, guide dogs, or expensive electronic aids to move safely. In this paper, an advanced mobility assistance system for the visually impaired people is created to address the challenges. This affordable, lightweight device uses an image processing concept to alert users about obstacles and puddles through vibrations. It also precisely measures the distance to obstacles, with different vibration patterns indicating varying levels of proximity. This functionality is achieved by combining an ultrasonic sensor, vibration motor, and ESP32 CAM module, all controlled by an ESP32 microcontroller. These components, strategically placed on the cane, provide efficient guidance and improved mobility for visually impaired users.

Cloud-based, centralized control system architectures have been published in recent years, examining the applications, structure and validity of the idea of controlling a vehicle, or multiple vehicles directly from the cloud. The literature presents possible advantages and disadvantages of Control as a Service (CaaS), as well as multiple viable applications, however no real-car real-world implementation exists to the best of our knowledge. In our experiments, we demonstrate a real-life and real-time vehicle control method that runs in the cloud and reacts adaptively to the vehicle’s surroundings. In the presented tests, acquisition of the vehicle and environment state is performed from a collective perception-based digital twin that is also produced in our cloud-based Central System using data streams from our distributed sensor network. We conduct real-world physical vehicle tests, and establish that cloud-based centralized control is a viable solution, and an interesting research direction. We test our vehicle control in one mixed reality, and two real-world scenarios on the ZalaZONE proving ground in Hungary, Zalaegerszeg. Our experiments prove that cloud-based low-level vehicle control is feasible.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has spurred the evolution of diverse wireless technologies including Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) like LoRa, SigFox, and LTE-M. These technologies have revolutionized various sectors, offering cost-effective and energy-efficient solutions particularly in health and environmental monitoring. LoRa, known for overcoming environmental challenges and multi-path fading while LTE-M stands out with its scalability for Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication, catering efficiently to low-end devices in LTE platforms. The convergence of IoT and cellular tech, especially Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), has extended device battery life and coverage while striving for energy efficiency. Analyzing NB-IoT’s energy consumption across different scenarios remains critical for assessing its power-efficiency potential. The aim is to assess the performance metrics of NB-IoT, including Bit Error Rate (BER), data rate, latency, and energy efficiency. Additionally, it seeks to conduct a comparative analysis between NB-IoT and other technologies like LoRa and LTE-M. Utilizing MATLAB’s toolbox for precision, the aim is to assess efficiency through metrics like BLER, Carrier-to-Noise Ratio, and power consumption by employing algorithms such as TLBO, Jaya, and TLBO-Jaya algorithms. Comparative evaluations with Massive LoRa and LTE-M systems aim to reveal performance of NB-IoT.

Accurate localization of nodes is essential for various applications, such as environmental monitoring, disaster management, and asset tracking. A novel approach to achieve precise and efficient node localization in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is by utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These UAVs facilitate data exchange with nodes through stable air-to-ground communication links. Traditional localization techniques based on received signal strength (RSS) measure wireless signal strength but are significantly affected by environmental factors like obstacles, multipath interference, and signal attenuation. In contrast, neural network (NN)-based methods can learn complex patterns in the received signals, enabling them to handle these variations and deliver more reliable localization results effectively. Among NNs, the multilayer perceptron (MLP) and recurrent neural network (RNN) models are particularly popular due to their versatility and effectiveness. Moreover, RNNs have an advantage over MLPs by incorporating previous network outputs during training. The simulation results in this paper demonstrate that UAV-assisted node localization using NNs achieves superior accuracy compared to existing methods.

: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) play a crucial role in enabling various applications ranging from environmental monitoring to smart infrastructure. One of the key challenges faced in WSNs is the limited energy resources of individual sensor nodes. To address this challenge, the design of energy-efficient nodes has become a focal point of research. This research paper focuses on exploring the design of energy-efficient nodes with concurrent transmission capabilities in WSNs. The first section delves into the key components of an energy-efficient node, optimization strategies for minimal energy consumption, and the trade-offs involved in designing such nodes. Concurrent transmission, another critical aspect of WSNs, is then examined in detail, highlighting its potential to improve network performance and the challenges associated with its implementation. Subsequently, existing energy efficiency techniques in WSNs are reviewed, along with their application to enhance overall network performance and the limitations they face. Node synchronization is also discussed, emphasizing its importance, synchronization methods, and its impact on energy consumption in WSNs. Lastly, the paper investigates the performance evaluation of energy efficient nodes with concurrent transmission, focusing on evaluation methodologies, performance metrics, and key findings from the study. By addressing these aspects comprehensively, this research paper aims to contribute to the advancement of energy-efficient node design and concurrent transmission techniques in WSNs, ultimately enhancing the overall efficiency and performance of wireless sensor networks.

Plug-and-Play (PnP) from an automotive industry context means enabling the sensors from the Automotive Perception System (APS) to be effortlessly incorporated into the vehicle’s architecture without requiring too many intricate changes. The goal behind this is to set up simple configurations, easy replacement of components, and establish compatibility with varied vehicle models. However, the vital problem with PnP is the lack of standardized interfaces that makes development, testing, and validation of software features more challenging. While AUTOSAR (AUTomotive Open System ARchitecture) and other standards have made significant advancements in the same field, there still exist challenges that have to be addressed, such as flexible configurations and compatibility. These are due to tight coupling between sensor hardware and its associated software applications. Hence, the motivation behind decoupling these components is the idea of having the opportunity to PnP from any sensor supplier with minimal impact on software applications and reduced verification and *** automotive sensors are manufactured and developed based on specific requirements from the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) by various sensor suppliers. OEMs have a dependency built up when the hardware components are supplied by the sensor suppliers based on certain requirements. In this case, the OEMs design and develop the software applications focusing on the underlying sensor hardware capabilities, which is an imprecise approach to *** paper introduces a concept in pursuance of uniformity of data called “ReCoIN” with a smart configuration method to tackle the problems that are faced to achieve both abstraction and PnP of automotive camera sensors. It also provides experimental outcomes with the help of different Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

The increasing challenges of air pollution make novel solutions for real-time monitoring and management necessary. Addressing the significant scale of air pollution requires the implementation of effective control and monitoring measures. While it is critical to filter harmful particles in the atmosphere, it is also important for the development of IoT-based sensing networks to monitor the concentration of various gaseous pollutants. These networks enable detailed analysis and more informed decision-making to combat air pollution effectively by collecting real-time data through sensors and transmitting it via the cloud. IoT integrated into AQMS has many advantages including remote and cost-effective monitoring, real time data collection, faster identification of pollutants and the ability to implement mitigation strategies for targeted pollutants effectively. The real-time air quality data can be shared with the public through mobile apps or online dashboards, which can promote public awareness and citizen *** provides precise predictions, increased scalability, and secure data management by combining technologies such as AI, ML, blockchain, and cloud computing. However, issues such as sensor calibration, data privacy, and energy efficiency remain critical areas of concern. The authors discuss the applications, advancements, and future potential of IoT based air quality systems for addressing air quality concerns, promoting sustainability, and protecting public health. To improve the precision, decentralization of system and promote the security and integrity of data, applications of blockchain, edge computing, AI algorithms and integration of 6G networks are introduced.

Agricultural sectors worldwide grapple with substantial economic losses and food insecurity, largely driven by pest infestations. The limitations of traditional manual inspection methods-marked by inefficiency and a lack of scalability-are particularly pronounced across extensive agricultural landscapes. In response, this study explores the cutting-edge integration of remote sensing techniques and artificial intelligence (AI) in pest detection, positioning these technologies as transformative tools in modern agriculture. Advanced remote sensing systems, including satellite imagery, aerial drones, and ground-based sensors, equipped with multispectral, hyperspectral, and thermal imaging capabilities, provide a nuanced understanding of crop health and pest vulnerability, enabling early and precise detection of infestations. Concurrently, AI's capacity for rapid and accurate analysis of vast datasets facilitates real-time monitoring and predictive analytics, offering a proactive approach to pest management. The synergistic application of these technologies promises to revolutionize pest control, significantly reducing reliance on chemical pesticides and mitigating environmental impacts. However, challenges persist, particularly in ensuring the robustness of data acquisition and the adaptability of AI models across diverse agro-ecological zones. This study underscores the strategic potential of integrating remote sensing technologies with AI to advance sustainable and resilient agricultural practices.
