In the current intellectual milieu, the central focus is directed towards the scientific domain of the IoT, fortified by the framework of wireless sensor networks. A WSN encompasses an assembly of sensor nodes engaged in intercommunication, aggregating environmental data, sending it to a server or base station to facilitate judicious decision-making. In light of their constrained battery longevity and untimely exhaustion, demanding subsequent redeployment, these sensor nodes pose intricate challenges. Recent scholarly pursuits have utilized a clustering approach in order to improve overarching lifespan of network. Utilizing cluster heads facilitates the communication of information from nodes to the central head waiter. Notably absent in current clustering techniques is the optimal methodology for forwarding data from sensors to the server and selecting the most suitable cluster heads. This paper introduces an innovative approach for WSN in the situation of IoT applications, employing Mobile Agents (MA) to assembledata from nodes. The methodology is grounded in the Two-Fold Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA). In this process, the Mobile Agent's route for congregation facts from feeler nodes undergoes optimization using GSA subsequent to its efficient selection of cluster heads. The optimization criteria encompass variables like nodes' residual energy and the associated communication cost in relation to the base station (BS). In the evaluation of network longevity and energy efficiency, the proposed methodology has been juxtaposed against alternative clustering protocols. Furthermore, the success rate and energy consumption associated with task execution in the MA's itinerary planning, based on the GSA, have been scrutinized in comparison to alternative itinerary planning techniques. Comparative analysis reveals that, in contrast to alternative approaches, the suggested protocol exhibits enhanced association immovability, abridged the energy consumption, and a heig

A large variety of networked devices are now available thanks to the wireless technology's quick growth, supporting a variety of applications. The wireless sensor network (WSN) is made up of tiny, battery-powered wireless devices that work together to exchange information over wireless channels to base station (BS). However, the WSN system posses several challenges, one cruicial issue is energy efficiency. The nodes in WSN eventually die because they are battery-powered, which happens to die after a given length of time. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce energy consumption during data exchange in order to provide energy efficiency and lengthen network lifetime. This paper proposes an energy-efficient optimal cluster-based routing approach for extending the network lifetime. The approach employs a cluster head rotation mechanism to balance the energy consumption among sensor nodes and prolong the network lifetime. The cluster head is rotated periodically to distribute the energy consumption among all nodes, thereby preventing nodes from running out of energy. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in terms of energy consumption, network lifetime, and packet delivery ratio compared to existing routing protocols.

Wireless Video sensor Networks (WVSNs) are used in many monitoring applications in various fields such as security, military, industrial, medical, and environmental. The video sensor nodes in these networks gather huge amounts of data and transmit it across the network. Transmitting the collected huge data will lead to increased energy consumption, bandwidth usage, and congestion over the WVSN network. Reducing energy for processing and transmitting data in WVSNs is difficult due to the huge amount of sensed data in real time. this paper proposes an Online Data Transmission Reduction Scheme (ODaTReS) to address energy conservation in WVSNs. The data reduction by the ODaTReS is based on two phases: the sensing phase and the transmission phase. Where ODaTReS employs frame rate adaptation using the ORB (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF) algorithm in the sensing phase to limit the captured video frames. While in the transmission phase, it computes the matching ratio between frames. Experimental evaluations demonstrate the superiority of ODaTReS over other methods in terms of data reduction ratio, energy consumption, data quality, and validity.

Wetlands are vital ecological systems that face growing risks due to human activities and climatic changes. This study introduces a method for monitoring wetlands, utilising the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain technology. Our approach involves using an Internet of Things (IoT) sensor system to monitor and assess the state of wetlands. Additionally, we actively involve local communities by leveraging blockchain technology. The IoT sensors monitor vital environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, $\mathbf{p H}$, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and conductivity, allowing for immediate data gathering, transmission, and secure storage in the cloud. The integration of blockchain technology enables the facilitation of crowdsourcing, which incentivises users to give useful data regarding wetland conditions. This strategy promotes active participation from the community in environmental preservation, empowering individuals as “citizen sensors.” This paper explains the proposed architecture, consisting of an Internet of Things (IoT) sensor network and an Ethereum blockchain platform. Furthermore, we developed an Ethereum smart contract that evaluates the user data and decides the incentives. We also benchmarked the smart contract, and the test results show that the smart contract is efficient.

With no associated devices, device-free localization (DFL) uses wireless sensor networks to find a target. DFL has created comprehensive applications, smart cities and the Internet of Things (IoT), among other things. This technique has attracted significant attention from various fields, increasing the demand for tracking indoor location-based services. The critical challenge in DFL is a way to retrieve essential characteristics to illustrate raw signals with various locations linked with diverse patterns. The complexity of an indoor environment with limited space has created low indoor positioning reliability and effectiveness problems. Therefore, this study proposes and formulated an image classification problem for the DFL problem by initially transforming the receiving signal strength (RSS) inputs into picture frames. The feature extraction from raw signals was performed using Deep Feed-Forward Neural Network (DFFNN) and deep auto-encoder (DAE) to fine-turning for classification. The DAE combined DFFNN were used for signal reconstruction and feature learning to present the DFL better. The findings revealed an accuracy of 100% using real-world data collected, and a signal-to-noise ratio over -5dB, 0dB, and 5dB was used to measure the react to noisy data. Moreover, in IoT applications, its time cost is very fast in single activity by 5ms for classification. The proposed method is better in noiseless and noisy situations, localization accuracy, and other related techniques. © 2022 IEEE.

Rapid advances in sensing technologies are leading to the development of wearable electronics for biomedical applications. Ionic polymer-metal composite (IPMC), an electroactive polymer, has excellent potential to be designed as a wearable sensor because of its self-powered sensing capability. Here, a unique four-arm pinwheel kirigami pattern has been integrated with a stretchable IPMC pressure sensor for an enhanced performance. Dynamic tests with a range of displacements were performed to validate the sensor design. The proposed sensor can produce a linear voltage output with a sensitivity of 36 mV/mm. The voltage output of the proposed kirigami-structured IPMC sensor shows superior performance with 3 times improvement compared to the conventional non-kirigami IPMC sensor.

Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) have gained immense popularity across diverse fields, including industrial monitoring, environmental surveillance, smart cities, and healthcare. These networks have demonstrated their significance in tackling real-world issues by autonomously monitoring, sensing, and wirelessly transmitting data from remote areas. They play a vital role in applications such as monitoring machine and equipment conditions in industries, managing traffic and monitoring air quality in smart cities, and detecting natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, and forest fires in environmental monitoring. However, the wide-scale implementation of WSNs necessitates overcoming critical challenges, such as cost-effective hardware design, energy optimization for improved network performance, secure data communication protocols, and efficient data acquisition, aggregation, and processing techniques. Addressing these challenges is pivotal for the success and sustainability of WSNs, especially as they become increasingly ubiquitous across various domains. This research focuses specifically on data acquisition for WSNs. It investigates multiple aspects of data acquisition and query processing in WSNs and proposes an effective data acquisition approach leveraging robust structured query language (SQL). In contrast to simulation-based evaluation, a real world sensor network testbed is developed and used to validate the proposed approach. Furthermore, the proposed data acquisition approach is evaluated through conducting a usability study. The results of the usability study are encouraging, which indicate that the proposed scheme is an effective and feasible solution for acquiring data from sensor fields in WSNs from the end users perspective.

These underwater Acoustic sensor Networks (UWSNs) present unique challenges due to the harsh and dynamic underwater environment, making efficient communication protocols essential for their operation. This paper introduces an innovative Energy Efficient Clustering Routing Protocol (EECRP) specifically designed for UWSNs, leveraging the advancements of 6G technology. EECRP employs a distributed clustering mechanism and energy-efficient routing strategy to optimize energy consumption, prolong network lifetime, and enhance communication reliability. The protocol integrates with 6G technologies, such as terahertz communication and quantum communication security, to further enhance performance and security in UWSNs. Through simulation and comparative analysis, EECRP demonstrates superior performance compared to existing routing protocols in terms of energy efficiency, throughput, and scalability. EECRP’s contributions lie in its novel approach to routing in UWSNs, emphasizing energy efficiency, sustainability, and integration with advanced technologies. This research paves the way for the adoption and deployment of EECRP in various underwater applications, facilitating scientific research, environmental monitoring, and technological innovation in underwater communication systems.

The growing application of wireless sensor networks (WSN) has unveiled several opportunities for innovative services and data-driven applications. However, the WSN's inherent vulnerabilities and challenges have raised considerable concerns about data security and integrity despite inventions like software-defined networking. Therefore, this paper proposes a comprehensive trust management framework (TMF) to address Software-defined WSN (SDWSN) security challenges. The proposed TMF capitalizes on the dynamic and flexible nature of the SDWSN to establish trust relationships, both between sensors (S2S) and between controllers and sensors (C2S). Leveraging behavioural analysis, the framework evaluates packet forwarding ability for S2S trust based on reputation, while employing a recommendation-based scheme based on anomalous traffic detection for C2S trust. By analyzing the network traffic, the TMF enhances the trustworthiness assessment and decision-making process. The framework allows the efficient and reliable identification of malicious nodes, unauthorized access, and data tempering within the network. While the proposed TMF is currently in the development stage and awaits implementation and evaluation, its potential impact on improving network security in the SDWSNs is promising.

SENeCA is our first RISC-V-based digital neuromorphic processor to accelerate bio-inspired Spiking Neural Networks for extreme edge applications inside or near sensors where ultra-low power and adaptivity features are required. SENeCA is optimized to exploit unstructured spatio-temporal sparsity in computations and data transfer. It is a digital IP, contains interconnected Neuron Cluster Cores, with RISC-V-based instruction set, an optimized Neuromorphic Co-Processor, and event-based communication infrastructure. SENeCA improves state of the art by: Addressing the flexibility issue in neuromorphic processors by allowing a fully programmable neuron model and learning/adaptivity algorithms;Improving the area efficiency by employing a 3-level memory hierarchy which allows using novel embedded memory technologies;Efficient deployment of advanced learning mechanisms and optimization algorithms by accelerating neural operations in three data types: int4, int8 and BrainFloat16;Efficient event communication by using a new Network-on-Chip with multicasting, a compression mechanism, and source-based routing. The implemented digital IP can be tuned for different applications to have a flexible number of cores and Neural Processing Elements (NPEs) per core and optional use of off-chip memory. Next to the hardware, the SENeCA platform includes an SDK and a hardware-aware simulator for close-loop synthesis/mapping optimization(1).
