In Wireless sensor and Actuator Networks (WSANs), the good connectivity is one of the most important prerequisites to ensure them working properly. Especially for the interactuator networks in WSANs, the connectivity is crucial for actuators to cooperate with each other to execute tasks correctly and efficiently. The paper proposes a Vertex-cut based Topology Repair algorithm (CVTR) which can maintain the connectivity of inter-actuator networks through relocating one-hop neighbors of failure nodes. The simulation experiment results show that CVTR can more effectively repair the connectivity of inter-actuator networks with much lower coverage loss and less number of nodes moved, comparing with the important and typical algorithm RIM.

This paper presents a low-power CMOS single-chip transceiver for sub-GHz wireless sensor network applications, which complies IEEE 802.15.4-2012 standard. It embodies RF transceiver section based on direct-conversion transmitter and low-IF receiver architecture. To validate its operation, the prototype is fabricated in 0.18um GF standard CMOS process. It shows +5dBm TX output power and -85dBm RX sensitivity. Furthermore, RX dynamic range reaches up to 90dB. The transceiver consumes 26mA and 1 8mA for TX and RX operations under 1.8V supply voltage, respectively. It occupies 10mm(2) active area for the RF transceiver section.

Smart risk assessment systems are becoming more and more important in the society. If the chances of reducing and managing certain [[risks are increased, the impacts can be controlled and reduced significantly. This article surveys different belief-rule-based decision support systems and various wireless sensor network technologies that can be used in collaboration to build interesting risk assessment applications. We propose a model for building such an environment and describe a potential application of our proposed model for assessing flood risks in a case study.

Accurate location estimation is very important in WSNs, for a number of applications' requirement. Due to the hardware limitation in WSN devices, range-free schemes are more appropriate for WSNs than rage-based schemes. A novel localization algorithm, RDV-hop localization algorithm, is proposed in this paper. The reason leading to error in original DV-hop has been analyzed and the refinement has been done. We also replace the ML localization algorithm with Hyperbolic location algorithm with better performance results. Simulations have been conducted to prove that RDV-hop performs more accurately than DV-hop, and the accuracy is improved by 24.9% on average.

Having a wireless communication, indoor environment, in particular, represents unfriendly environment. Wireless sensor network applications indoors are in contrast to the mentioned fact and they are very common. Considering radio frequency signal propagation in a real environment (without bearing in mind interferences from other sources) we meet, in general, four basic phenomenon - reflection, path-loss, scattering and diffraction. Every single one impacts on the signal propagation and contributes to the path-loss and distortion at the receiver. A thorough picture of the electromagnetic wave propagation in the space can theoretically obtain the solution of Maxwell's equations. Though, this approach is computationally demanding and ineffective for the practical cases. In order to better describe the propagation of a radio frequency signal, the approximate models are used that usually base on experimental results. This paper presents case study on the indoor radio frequency signal propagation at 2.4GHz ISM Band (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) supported by the propagation models implementation and experimental results.

In-flight wireless sensor networks (WSN) are of increased interest owing to efficiency gains in weight and operational lifetime of IP-enabled computers. High impact 3D swarming applications for such systems include autonomous mapping, surveying, servicing, environmental monitoring and disaster site management. For distributed robotic applications, such as quad copter swarms, it is critical that the robots are able to localise themselves autonomously with respect to other robots and to share information. The importance of fast and reliable dissemination of localised information in these elastic three-dimensional networks provides us sufficient reason to present a distributed framework and hardware settings for passing this information pervasively through the swarm. The research field of Internet of Things (IoT) have for several years been addressing issues around low-power, low-bandwidth wireless communication. By applying IoT technologies to the challenges around swarming, new opportunities are created. However, since IoT have been primarily used with stationary devices, the introduction of flying sensors will add more challenges to address.

Wireless sensor networks are widely applied in various applications. But due to the resource-constrained sensor nodes and the malicious attacks, the traditional key management schemes are not suitable for the network. Contraposing the particularities, many relevant key management schemes are developed for WSNs the network. Based on the framework of WSNs, existing schemes can be classified into two categories: flat distributed architecture and hierarchical architecture. In this paper, a hybrid key management scheme for wireless sensor network is proposed by combining the distributed architecture and the hierarchical architecture. Based on the modified version of Du's matrix construction, this scheme can apply in WSNs with the network topology changes. Compared with existing key management schemes, this scheme can provide sufficient security, nicer key connectivity and low key storage overhead.

The present work discusses a technology for deposition and characterization of thin molybdenum oxide (MoOx, MoO3) films studied for gas sensorapplications. The samples were produced by reactive radio-frequency (RF) and direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering. The composition and microstructure of the films were studied by XPS, XRD and Raman spectroscopy, the morphology, using high resolution SEM. The research was focused on the sensing properties of the sputtered thin MoO3 films. Highly sensitive gas sensors were implemented by depositing films of various thicknesses on quartz resonators. Making use of the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) method, these sensors were capable of detecting changes in the molecular range. Prototype QCM structures with thin MoO3 films were tested for sensitivity to NH3 and NO2. Even in as-deposited state and without heating the substrates, these films showed good sensitivity. Moreover, no additional thermal treatment is necessary, which makes the production of such QCM gas sensors simple and cost-effective, as it is fully compatible with the technology for producing the initial resonator. The films are sensitive at room temperature and can register concentrations as low as 50 ppm. The sorption is fully reversible, the films are stable and capable of long-term measurements.
