The millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequency band is rapidly becoming utilized in wireless technologies due to its large bandwidth and high data throughput. Wireless technology is increasingly becoming the backbone of the Internet of Things (IoT). This has resulted in increased applications of the radio frequency (RF) spectrum and congestion of the microwave band. This can be solved by utilizing more bandwidth at higher frequency bands. One notable application of IoT pertains to radar sensing, which has experienced increased popularity across various domains such as autonomous vehicles, gesture recognition, drones, and health monitoring. Radar sensors have been employed in these applications to perform tasks including proximity sensing, direction detection, speed measurement, target localization, and capturing physiological indicators such as heartbeat and breathing. Several factors have an impact on the performance of radar sensors, encompassing the maximum range for target detection, measurement precision, capability to differentiate between multiple targets, and ability to operate effectively in environments with high levels of noise. This paper presents the design of a 45 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) low noise amplifier (LNA) for a mmWave Ka-band wireless transceiver for radar sensors. The LNA was designed to operate at 0.6V and 700 μA for low power consumption. The LNA consists of an inductive degenerated common source (CS) and a common gate (CG) diode-connected load. The LNA achieves a power gain of 31.19 dB and a noise figure (NF) of 0.133 dB at 30 GHz consuming 0.42 mW of power. © 2023 IEEE.

Developing electromechanical sensors with flexible and skin-mountable structures are highly demanded in human-related applications such as health care and sports fields. Conductive polymer nanocomposite with piezoresistive behavior is one solution to overcome stretchability and sensitivity limitations in conventional electromechanical sensors. In this study, we have developed a stretchable nanocomposite strain sensor based on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) elastomer with improved behavior by investigating the effects of nanofillers concentration, curing temperature of the polymer, and the effect of mechanical pre-stretching on the response of the sensor. Optimizing these factors result in a significant improvement in the performance of the sensor by increasing the linearity (more than 20%), sensitivity (up to threefold), and hysteresis error decreased to less than 3%. However, the sensor still demonstrates relaxation errors during step strain and initial stretch/strain cycles test due to the viscoelastic nature of elastomers, which is common in every polymer-based nanocomposite sensor and, therefore, causes inaccuracy in practical applications. We developed a data-driven dynamic model using the System Identification technique in MATLAB to cover the time-dependent behavior of the sensor and predict the input strain more accurately. The model could reduce the strain prediction error up to 10% in comparison to the gauge factor equation. Finally, to demonstrate the potential applications of our sensor in human health applications, it was attached to the body for monitoring respiration and carotid artery signals.

The digitalization of industrial environments has enabled the development of tools that make the production process more efficient and safer. In this sense, the Soft sensor (SS) plays a fundamental role. Through historical data and indirect measurements, it is possible to estimate the value of important variables that are difficult to measure. This paper presents the SS development process: data collection and pre-processing, variable selection, model selection for SS implementation, model training and testing, and performance evaluation. The selection of variables was made with the help of Pearson Correlation, Mutual Information, and fastTracker algorithm techniques. For the implementation of SS have been tested several models: Multiple Linear Regression, Ridge Regression, Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator, Elastic Net, Support Vector Regression and Gaussian Mixture Models. Four datasets were used to test the development of the SS. © 2023 IEEE.

This research elucidates the development and optimization of advanced sensor network-based health monitoring systems. In response to the increasing need for accurate health data in real-time, advanced gadgets capable of continuously monitoring essential indicators have been created. Contemporary sensor technologies, such as biosensors, IoT devices, and WSN s, enable these systems to facilitate data collection and processing with little disturbance. Optimization techniques like PSO, including machine learning algorithms and energy conservation procedures, are used to enhance the system's performance, reliability, and battery longevity. The study focuses on developing robust and scalable systems suitable for various healthcare applications, while also investigating data processing, communication protocols, network architecture, and sensor selection. Advanced sensor networks will be crucial for future health monitoring, as research indicates substantial improvements in monitoring accuracy, system efficiency, and patient outcomes. Present approach is supposed to provide scalable and efficient solution. Moreover, it would support privacy in order to provide secure solution.

For centuries, humans have used light for communication, positioning and sensing purposes. With the ongoing rapid advancements in the field of Light emitting diodes (LED), photosensitive devices and the associated electronic components these applications of light, gain more and more relevance in our modern digitized world. Visible light communication (VLC), Visible light positioning (VLP) and Visible Light sensing are ideal candidates for realization of novel communication and sensing solutions, whilst the high requirements regarding privacy, complexity and resource/energy can be met. Based on the introduction of the main principles of these Visible Light technologies, current applications will be highlighted, outlining the major advantages compared to other technological approaches as well as discussing current limitations. In particular, based on the already obtained results of the ongoing Project Vilipa, the future possibilities of these approaches are elaborated.

Health 5.0, health digitization is growing rapidly with the help of Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). The growth in this sector motivated us in learning the loopholes in the advancements. The various communication technologies and strategies are discussed based on the power consumption, speed and range. The LoRa is seen to work on low power, high range with less data transmission. Investigating the fields of Wireless sensor Network, LoRa is seen as a reliable protocol that can best fit for Wireless sensor Network. The applications based on the capability of the system is reviewed considering the wide scale properties of each component. The best fit processing unit based on cost with the transmission protocols is discussed to give a clear vision on the technologies. Various transmission protocols are reviewed and LoRa is taken ahead in exploring and enhancing the features considering the knowledge gap. The speed of LoRa is simulated using Pothos, and the range is tested on the real ground. The data distribution based on heavy data transmission is discussed. The role of IoT and IoMT in the growth of the sector is visualized as the major contribution is given by the technologies. This research used a wearable sensor to gather photoplethysmography (PPG) signals from 15 healthy subjects. The dataset includes 7,308 PPG segments, each containing 8 seconds of PPG data and corresponding labels indicating the type of physical activity the subject performed. The article proposes a convolutional neural network (CNN) model to classify physical activity from the PPG signals. The proposed model includes several layers: batch normalization, convolutional, max-pooling, dropout, and fully connected. The output layer uses the softmax activation function to compute the probabilities of each class. Regarding performance, the suggested CNN model outperforms conventional models like SVM with RBF kernel, Decision Tree, and Random Forest. The article also suggests several techniques to optimize the model further, which can be beneficial for developing IoMT applications such as activity recognition and vital signs monitoring. © 2023 IEEE.

Several gemmology technologies, including loupes, microscopes, and dichroscopes, are currently utilised to assist gemstone traders in evaluating rubies. These tools, on the other hand, rely heavily on human vision for pictorial assessment. There are no standardized tools for determining ruby stone grading, other from those that rely on human vision, which can lead to errors. Gemmologists, stakeholders in the precious stone and manufacturing industries, as well as dental applications, would benefit from a standardized quantitative grading valuation of ruby stones. Extensive research is required to analyse the light characteristics of rubies. This paper presents a potential research overview of the Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) linear sensor to inspect the grading value of ruby stone based on its light characteristic. This research delves deeper into the relevant light properties of rubies for grading purposes. Numerous types of gemmological instruments are used for grading and appraising rubies, as well as their applications, are discussed in this paper. A standardized approach for quantitative grading valuation of ruby stones utilising a Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) linear sensor is offered due to the limits of current techniques and the strong demand for superior quality in the high-valued stone sectors. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The primary objective of researching the Internet of Things as a tool is to regulate and oversee agriculture in order to facilitate the growth of a greater variety of crops and an increase in the quantity of crops produced overall. Farmers are subjected to a wide range of challenges, including uneven distribution of water, unstable weather conditions (such as wind, hailstorm, UV radiations, and pesticide assaults), and a diverse range of soil types. Because water should be spread in an equal manner, it becomes extremely difficult to control the uneven distribution of water;hence, a new irrigation system has to be created in order to circumvent this challenge. Greenhouse has shown to be a very helpful tool in resolving all of these issues. An inclined technology is one that utilizes the Internet of Things in order to make greenhouse a more adaptable platform. In this case, a GSM module is used for the purpose of managing the tube well, in addition to a fogger and a variety of sensors for regulating the temperature and the relative humidity. Large regions are now covered by sensor networks, which is helpful since it allows for the creation of greenhouses with realistic environments, which plays a significant role in the development of crops. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
