In this paper the design of broad-band Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) based piezoelectric ultrasound transducer is presented. A Finite Element Model (FEM) is used to simulate here PVDF ultrasonic transducers. Based on this FEM, the relationship between the Physical structure and properties of PVDF transducer are studied both in simulation and experiment. It shows that the center frequency and many other property parameters of PVDF ultrasonic transducers are strongly related to its physical structures of it. Finally, the simulation result shows the resonant frequency of (54MHz) and sensitivity of (3.6 uV/Pa). A prototype multi-channel arrays 0.3mm x 10 mm active area has been fabricated and experimentally validated its preliminary results in terms of electrical and acoustic properties.

There has been a lot of research in the area of nanocomposite material for optical application. The optical qualities can benefit more technologically important forms, such as films and fibers. This paper covers the authors' results in terms of sol-gel nanocomposite for optical application over the preceding ten years. The sol-gel technique, in combinations with colloidal technologies, can be used to make nanocomposites multifunctional material focused on the integration of QDs in inorganic or hybrid organic inorganic matrices, which have good optical property, chemicals stability, and are easy to process. Surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-based optical gas sensor show significant promise for better understanding chemical interaction at the nanoscales as well as the creation of actual device. Gas sensors with customised microstructure can be made by carefully controlling the film structure. The broad characteristics of the synthesis and characterisations of the material, as well as an findings obtained in specific situations, are detailed in both types of applications with the goal of providing an overview of the evolution of these *** (c) 2022 Elsevier Ltd. Soil carbon content plays an essential role in combating climate change, water cycling, and sustaining soil biodiversity. However, the conventional way of quantifying soil carbon content is labor intensive, lack of precision, slow, and costly. On large spatial scale, assessment of the effect of carbon (biochar) applied to the soil for soil health conditioning, remains to be very difficult. This paper for the first time demonstrates the viability using a millimeter-wave sensing method for quantifying soil carbon content. It can also distinguish biochar types from different biomass species. Furthermore, soil moisture monitoring, and biochar water retention capacity can also be quantified by utilizing the same miniature millimeter wave radar sensor empowered by machine learning. Specifically, in this study, we present our research materials, methodology, machine learning workflow, results, and the explanation and interpretation based on the physical principles of the millimeter wave radar array sensor in the context of soil carbon content. We validated our quantification method with supervised machine learning algorithm using real soil data collected in the field mixed with known biochar contents. The results show that our technique achieved a 95.7 per cent recognition accuracy across seven different biochar types. The work laid the foundation for future real-time, large spatial-scale evaluation and assessment of soil carbon content using biochar amendments or other related carbon-negative technologies. Thus, soil carbon content site-specific management can be made possible.

The Orbiting Mouse is the latest input device augmenting three-dimensional control in CAD, and its designer gave special consideration to user precision, ergonomic comfort, and operational efficiency. The main body details the design and implementation of such a device, which pairs an orbital control system with a triple-axis magnetometer, plus customizable function buttons targeting CAD applications. The proposed system greatly simplifies complex 3D manipulation, thus reducing fatigue as an interface integrates seamlessly with CAD applications in the industry. This proves to be an enlightening research study on architecture, application, and potential improvements with its application to contemporary digital design workflows.

The Routing Over Low power and Lossy network (ROLL) working group of IETF proposed the IPv6 Routing Protocol over Low Power and Lossy network (RPL) to fulfill multiple traffic requirements of the Internet of Things (IoT) environments. RPL structures ubiquitous IoT networks in the form of Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) that comprises basic sensor nodes (motes), motes with routing capability, and one or more root (sink) nodes. RPL ensures optimal topological organization of IoT networks by its rank and version number properties. However, vulnerabilities in the RPL routing process pose threats to several protocol violations in the IoT environment. In RPL, information solicitation is the process by which sensor nodes seek network configuration information required to join an IoT network. The paper investigates the vulnerabilities associated with the information solicitation process in RPL-based IoT networks that leads to flooding of control messages. Consequently, there is energy and queue buffer depletion of sensor nodes in IoT networks. On the one hand, queue buffer depletion may lead to the dropping of packets by sensor nodes. On the other hand, energy depletion of sensor nodes may altogether make them non-functioning. Therefore, IoT network administrators must pay attention to the device’s power consumption. Recent research focuses on energy depletion due flooding of control packets. Nevertheless, flooding also affects other significant parameters like, the network convergence time, beacon interval and packet arrival rate. In this work, we perform an in-depth evaluation of the performance of RPL-based IoT networks under the threat of vulnerabilities associated with information solicitation process. This paper presents an energy-efficient CMOS transmitter (TX) for autonomous temperature sensor nodes. The TX structure is simplified using a frequency divider and power amplifier (PA) with on-off keying (OOK) modulation. A two-stage duty cycle modulator is introduced to significantly reduce power consumption. The $1^{\text {st }}$ stage controls TX operation between active and inactive modes based on energy availability, while the $2^{\text {nd }}$ stage compresses the duty ratio during active mode to further reduce operating time. Finally, a 305 MHz TX system is implemented with a standard $0.18 \mu \mathrm{~m}$ CMOS process. The active area of chip is $0.01 \mathrm{~mm}^{2}$. The supply voltage is 1.2 V. Post simulation results indicate that the power consumption of $862 \mu \mathrm{~W}$ is obtained during data transmission at room temperature. After $1^{\text {st }}$-stage modulation (1 active per 63 dis-active), the average power consumption is reduced to $13.7 \mu \mathrm{~W}$. After both $1^{\text {st }}$ and $2^{\text {nd}}$-stages modulation (277 pulses with pulse width of $1.5 \mu \mathrm{~s}$ in 1 s), the ultimate average power consumption reduces to only 5.9 nW. This ultra-low power performance demonstrates good applicability for wireless sensor network (WSN) applications.

One of the crucial elements in studies relying on wearable sensors for quantification of human activities (like physical activity or food intake) is the assessment of wear time (compliance). In this paper, we propose a novel method based on the Automatic Ingestion Monitor v2 (AIM-2), deployed for measuring nutrient and energy intake. The proposed method was developed using data from a study of 30 participants for two days each (US dataset) and tested with an independent dataset (Ghana dataset) on 10 households (30 Participants, 3 days for each, a total of 90 days). The signals from the accelerometer sensor of the AIM-2 were used to extract features and train the gradient-boosting tree classifier. To reduce the error in the classification of non-compliance in situations where the sensor changes its position with respect to gravity, a two-stage classifier followed by post-processing was introduced. Previously, we developed an offline compliance classifier, and this work aimed to develop a classifier for a cloud-based feedback system. The accuracy and F1-score of the developed two-phase classifier based on K-fold validation for the training and validation dataset were 95.37% and 96.93%, and for the Ghana dataset, were 95.86% and 92.56%, respectively, showing satisfactory performance results. The trained classifier can be deployed to monitor compliance with device wear in realtime applications. Clinical Relevance- Food Intake and physical activity studies can contribute to detecting, controlling, and even improving eating or physical activity-related problems, like obesity, diabetes, and eating planning. To ensure effective monitoring, compliance with the wearing of the device is crucial. © 2023 IEEE.

Any sensor utilization is largely dependent upon its electronics integration and portability. This work represents systematic work done on integration of a resonance-based sensor to appropriate electronic interface unit (EIU) and design-cumdevelopment of appropriate vector network analyzer (VNA) to demonstrate a complete portable resonance sensor. Complementary Split Ring Resonator (CSRR) at 130 MHz is initially simulated and later fabricated on FR4 substrate copper clad. The development of the EIU addresses the limitations of traditional VNAs, offering a portable, adaptable, and budgetfriendly alternative. The experimental framework encompasses the ATmega328P microcontroller-based EIU and CSRR sensor. The EIU is optimized to identify the material based on resonance shifts obtained for various materials (Air, DI Water, Dimethylformamide (DMF), and Ethanol) and their concentrations. An efficient, reliable, and accessible approach is demonstrated for various technological applications for in-line testing and evaluation of hazardous ambiance.

In this paper, we proposes a trilateration-based positioning model for constructing a real-time 2D map for wireless sensor network, that is help users real-time tracking the sensor node via an application without the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) module equipped on the sensor node. For building up the system, there are three anchor nodes whose locations are known, the receiver based on the received signal strengths (RSS) sending from three anchor nodes estimates its location and then uses that location information. The simulation and experimental results show that, with proposed model, it provides location information for a wireless sensor network with low positioning error in a real-life scenario, especially in indoor environment with obstacles. This proposed model can be applied for various wireless applications, such as tour guidance, asset tracking and management, fire escape guidance and so on with high accuracy and low cost.
