Blind image inpainting aims to repair damaged parts of the image without prior knowledge. It is a challenging problem due to difficult to infer the background of the damaged area. Existing methods still produce unwanted outputs sometimes, with inconsistent or oversimplified details. To restore textures at a fine-grained level in blind image inpainting, we propose a model based on multi-scale hierarchical vector quantized variational autoencoders (VQ-VAE). It was firstly trained with a multi-scale hierarchical VQ-VAE module to learn efficient encoding of ground truth images to get 2 codebooks guiding the inpainting. Then another multi-scale hierarchical VQ-VAE module encodes corrupted images, and tries to align them to the codebooks. Finally, we added a decoder as well as the credibility mechanism to the second module to improve the inpainting quality. Experiments on several publicly datasets, including CelebA, Places2 and Paris StreetView, show that our method outperforms the current excellent techniques. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

For widespread adoption, public security and surveillance systems must be accurate, portable, compact, and real-time, without impeding the privacy of the individuals being observed. Current systems broadly fall into two categories - image-based which are accurate, but lack privacy, and RF signal-based, which preserve privacy but lack portability, compactness and accuracy. Our paper proposes mmSense, an end-to-end portable miniaturised real-time system that can accurately detect the presence of concealed metallic objects on persons in a discrete, privacy-preserving modality. mm-Sense features millimeter wave radar technology, provided by Google's Soli sensor for its data acquisition, and TransDope, our real-time neural network, capable of processing a single radar data frame in 19 ms. mmSense achieves high recognition rates on a diverse set of challenging scenes while running on standard laptop hardware, demonstrating a significant advancement towards creating portable, cost-effective real-time radar based surveillance systems. © 2023 IEEE.

The application of unmanned vehicles in industrial cargo transportation is becoming increasingly widespread, particularly playing a significant role in transporting heavy-duty goods. However, when performing such tasks, whether in single-vehicle transportation or multi-vehicle collaborative transportation, the occurrence of wheel failures can potentially lead to serious safety accidents. Therefore, this paper proposes a fault-tolerant control scheme, establishing a kinematic model considering disturbances and failures, and adopts model predictive control for trajectory tracking. Additionally, an extended state observer is introduced to observe system states and counteract disturbances. To address potential failure issues, a controller reconstruction strategy is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the controller is validated through numerical simulation and comparative experiment. © 2024 IEEE.

In the task of image inpainting, it is common to utilize a CNN-based encoder-decoder architecture to extract the feature information from the damaged image, achieving satisfactory restoration results. However, these methods often struggle to achieve high-quality restoration for images with varying degrees of damage. In this paper, propose a two-stage inpainting model. Firstly, leverage the powerful contextual capturing capabilities of the Transformer to form a coarse recovery network, so as to roughly fill holes of different sizes. Secondly, employ a predicted filtering kernel network to perform fine restoration, building upon the coarse restoration. Method conducted qualitative and quantitative experiments on the CelebA and Places2 datasets, demonstrating the superiority of our proposed method. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The introduction of Industry 4.0 and internet-based technologies has enhanced industrial control system operations but have inadvertently increased their vulnerabilities to cyber attacks. When an industrial control system is compromised, security analysts need to identify the root cause quickly to start the recovery process and develop mitigation strategies. Memory forensics is critical in the incident analysis process to ascertain what occurred. Approaches for analyzing the persistent memory in industrial control devices are limited and almost nonexistent for volatile memory. This chapter proposes an automated methodology for programmable logic controller memory dump analysis using computer vision and deep learning techniques. The methodology converts the sequences of bytes in a programmable logic controller memory dump to red-green-blue pixels and employs a deep learning model that learns the underlying patterns and features of pre-labeled forensic artifacts in images and segments them into distinct regions. The trained model is employed to automatically segment new memory images and identify forensic artifacts. Evaluation of the methodology on a Schneider Electric Modicon M221 programmable logic controller under code injection and code modification attacks demonstrates its ability to detect attack artifacts in memory dumps.

One of the hardest automatic driving tasks in the field of intelligent vehicles is collision avoidance. More drivers are often use to braking than to steering in emergency situations, even if the steering is the best maneuver. Manual steering is less effective at avoiding obstacles than automatic emergency steering. Braking, accelerating, steering, or a combination of braking, accelerating & steering can be used to prevent a collision. Because of the complexity involved, the automatic emergency steering system must be designed using a Model-based systems Engineering (MBSE) methodology. Only steering interventions are considered in this paper. © 2023 IEEE.

Estimating the pose of the human body lying on the bed has enormous and valuable benefits in various applications such as medicine and healthcare. Regular and longterm monitoring and detection of human poses in bed need sustaining certain poses, as they contribute to better recovery after certain surgeries or to control the symptoms effects of many complications. Particularly, when the body is fully covered or in completely dark ambient, existing methods for inbed pose monitoring should be upgraded or new methods should be developed. An economical, contactless, vision-based system that is not sensitive to both challenges of darkness and cover is a thermal camera imaging system using the long-wavelength IR technique. In this regard, the dataset used in this study is the SLP data set, in which several different modes of poses with various covers are collected simultaneously. This dataset is a thermal camera-based dataset and is entirely annotated as an in-bed pose dataset. In this paper, the multi-scale stacked Hourglass (MSSHg) network, has been applied to improve the processing of thermal camera images for human pose estimation. Drawing on the concept of multi-scale, the aim of using the pre-processing network in this model is to extract feature maps with different scales and assign them to different stacked Hourglass networks. The performance of this approach for in-bed pose estimation showed progress with the result accuracy of 96.8% in PCK0.2 standard. In comparison with stacked Hourglass network results, the MSSHg network has about 0.8% more accuracy for covered body pose estimation and as much as or even higher accuracy for uncovered body pose estimation at the final stage. Additionally, it converges faster and easier at the beginning of the training stage.

Infrared imaging systems play an important role in many fields. With the increasing demand for system miniaturization, infrared computational imaging technology achieves aberration correction through image restoration algorithms, becoming an effective way to simplify system configuration. The accurate modeling of detector noise is a critical step in infrared computational imaging technology, and its precision directly impacts the efficacy of image restoration. This article elucidates the random noise model of pyroelectric detectors through experimental research and proposes a dynamic noise model to enhance the performance of infrared computational imaging systems. The study initially established a noise testing system for pyroelectric detectors, designed to operate under various temperature conditions in accordance with the specifications of infrared detector noise testing. Subsequently, it conducted a comprehensive analysis of the detectors' noise characteristics. The test results indicate that the random noise conforms to a Gaussian distribution without Poisson components. Furthermore, as integration time and detector temperature increase, the noise demonstrates linear and exponential growth trends respectively. Building upon these findings, dynamic noise models were integrated into imaging noise simulations. Results show that compared with traditional single random noise models, the newly proposed dynamic model improves peak signal-to-noise ratio by 9.17dB, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing performance within infrared computing imaging systems. Through extensive exploration into random noises associated with pyroelectric detectors and proposing dynamic models for such noises, this paper not only advances understanding regarding their characteristics but also presents novel strategies for optimizing infrared computational imaging systems-offering significant theoretical significance and practical value. © 2024 SPIE.

To improve the resolution and quality of a low level image, single image super resolution (SISR) is a challenging endeavor in the turf of computer vision. It is essential to many applications, including image editing, security systems, medical imaging, and others. In order to increase the spatial quality of a low level image, SISR attempts to approximate the high frequency details that are missing from the image. The field was formerly based on manually created features and interpolation techniques, but current developments in deep learning have completely changed it. The suggested work compares the effectiveness of bicubic interpolation and neural network based very deep super resolution for single image super resolution image quality improvement. Utilizing blind and complete reference picture quality measures, the effectiveness of the two approaches is evaluated. The effectiveness of the very deep super resolution for single image is clearly demonstrated by the experimental results. © 2023 IEEE.
