The real-time hardware system called UFO intended for high quality registering and fusion of infrared (IR) and visible (VIS) images is presented in this paper. System UFO is principally suited for mobile applications. Of course, it can be also used on fixed platforms as well. Therefore, much effort has been spent to ensure appropriate low power consumption and robustness against harsh environments. Overview and discussion of the hardware structure of the UFO system is presented. Principally, the system was build around single, low power FPGA core. The proposed structure of the hardware is very clear and compact. Mixed solutions, based on applications of multiple FPGA and DSP processors, after discussion, have been rejected in spite of insufficient computational power. Some substantial reasons for this have been presented in this paper. Chosen image registering and fusion procedures have been implemented to proof technical quality of the system. Achieved experimental results certified the ability of the presented system for real-time applications.

In this paper, the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) is used for the classification of the epileptic electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The ANFIS combines the adaptation capability of the neural networks and the fuzzy logic-based qualitative approach together. A given input/output data set is deployed to construct a fuzzy inference system, whose membership function parameters are trained using a back propagation algorithm in combination with a least squares method. However, the training method sometimes may lead to local optima. We here propose a new strategy of hybrid training algorithm based on the fusion of the ANFIS and Harmony Search (HS), HS-ANFIS, which is adopted to tune all the parameters of the ANFIS. The validity of our method is verified by numerical experiments.

Recent advances in control algorithms embedded into a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) allowed the application of such algorithms in real engineering problems (robotic, image and signal processing, control, power electronics, etc.), however, the application of such technologies in the solar energy field is very limited. The embedded advanced algorithm into FPGA can play a very important role in renewable energy systems for control, monitoring, supervision, etc. FPGA technology was employed due to its development, flexibility and low cost. In this paper, the incremental conductance (IncCond) algorithm is implemented on FPGA for tracking the Maximum Power Point (MPP) of a photovoltaic (PV) array. The IncCond algorithm has been designed using a description language (VHSIC standing for very-high-speed integrated circuits) then implemented on Xilinx Virtex-II-Pro(xc2v1000-4fg456. Modelsim-based simulation results confirm the good tracking efficiency (96%) and rapid response time (2ms). It has been confirmed that the implemented algorithm performs better than the well known Perturb and Observe (P&O) algorithm.

The variation of facial appearance due to the viewpoint or pose obviously degrades the accuracy of any face recognition systems. One solution is generating the virtual frontal view from any given non-frontal view. In this paper, we propose an efficient and novel locally kernel-based nonlinear regression (LKNR) method, which generates the virtual frontal view from a given non-frontal face image. Eventually, after non-frontal face images are converted to virtual frontal view, we use PCA+FLDA method for pose-invariant face recognition. The comparison of the proposed method with locally linear regression (LLR) and eigen light-field (ELF) methods show that the proposed method outperforms two other methods in terms of robustness, visual effects and recognition accuracy.

In this paper, a non-stationary wideband geometry-based stochastic model (GBSM) is proposed for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) high-speed train (HST) channels. The proposed model employs multiple confocal ellipses model, where the received signal is a superposition of the line-of-sight (LoS) and single-bounced rays. Because of the time-varying feature of angles of arrival (AoAs), angles of departure (AoDs), and LoS angle, the proposed GBSM has the ability to investigate the non-stationarity of HST environment caused by the high speed movement of the receiver. From the proposed model, the local spatial cross-correlation function (CCF) and the local temporal autocorrelation (ACF) are derived for different taps. Numerical results and analysis show that the proposed channel model is capable of characterizing the time-variant HST wireless channel.

Empirical mode decomposition(EMD) is a new signal processing theory, and it is very much fitting for non-stationary signal processing, such as radar signal. So this paper proposes the new synthetic aperture radar(SAR) image target detection algorithm after analyzing the characteristics of EMD and SAR images. The proposed method performs the EMD operation, feature extraction, election and fusion, which can reduce the affection of speckle. Experimental results show that the proposed method is very effective.

In this paper, based on the FPGA and with a video dedicated A / D converter chip, LVDS coding chip, the design and implementation of a SD(standard-definition) analog video signals to HD(high-definition) digital video signal converter. First, input SD analog video into digital video signals meet the ITU-BT656 standard. Then use the FPGA with the video processing chip and DDR do some corresponding processing to achieve high-definition digital video output. After the actual test, the converter output signal of the image quality is well, meets the design requirements, and to verify the effectiveness of the program.

Halftone image watermarking is an important direction of research and application in the field of information hiding now. This paper proposed a halftone image watermarking algorithm based on error diffusion. It is an effective measure to copyright protection of printed matter, source authentication and prevented forgery etc. This algorithm embedded watermarking image information as an error signal into the pixels adjacent to this location by error diffusion algorithm. Information embedding was completed synchronously with halftone. So watermarking extraction is simple and fast. Experiments show that this algorithm can embed a binary watermarking image into the halftone image with the same size. This algorithm has a good performance in resistance to a variety of attacks(such as noise jamming, fouling, and rotation etc.).So it has certain practical value.

With the growth of different design goals and application requirements, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are receiving sustained attentions in the recent low-cost industrial automation systems. Moreover, Cognitive Radio (CR) technology gives us a possibility to maximize the utilization efficiency of the limited spectrum resources. However, because the wireless devices coexist in the same radio environment, there are harmful channel conflicts among users, and the increasing radio systems causes great contribution to the increasing energy consumption. In order to realize the industrial circumstance, we complete three major works in this paper. First of all, we describe a practical model of cumulative interferences from the entire cognitive radio-based industrial wireless sensor networks (CR-IWSNs). Then, based on the interference model and the interference avoidance purpose, we propose a self-configurable power control scheme to address the communication requirements on both interference temperature and secondary network Quality-of-Service. Finally, Nonlinear Programming is used to model the scheme and a distributed algorithm is given to solve the problem. Several simulations are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed power control algorithm on optimizing the total system throughput and energy consumption. Results show that the throughput could be improved and the energy consumption could be reduced with the guarantee that the users are without interference.

Biometrics is an effective technology for personnel identity recognition, but uni-modal biometric systems which use a single trait for recognition will suffer from problems like noisy sensor data, non-universality, lack of distinctiveness of the biometric trait, and spoof attacks. These problems can be tackled by using multi-biometrics in the system. Hand-based person recognition provides a reliable, low-cost and user-friendly viable solution for a range of access control applications. As one of the most popular biometric traits, fingerprints (FP) are widely used in personal recognition. However, a novel hand-based biometric feature, Finger-Knuckle-Print (FKP), has attracted an increasing amount of attention. In this paper, FP and FKP are integrated in order to construct an efficient multi-biometric recognition system based on matching score level and image level fusion. In this study we use the minimum average correlation energy (MACE) and Unconstrained MACE (UMACE) filters in conjunction with two correlation plane performance measures, max peak value and peak-to-sidelobe ratio, to determine the effectiveness of this method. The experimental results showed that the designed system achieves an excellent recognition rate on the Hong Kong polytechnic university (PolyU) FKP and high resolution fingerprint database.
