The topic of this paper is Content-basedimage Retrieval (CBIR) based on colors as a content image descriptor. The tool we developed to that purpose modelizes the colors of an image as a set of 2D Gaussian distributions based on weighted color histograms. Then, given a reference image proposed by a user, the system can automatically classify the image and provide the user with the most similar images to the reference image in its category. Experiments with Corel-1000 dataset demonstrate that our method outperforms the known implementations.

Distributed video coding (DVC) is a recent coding paradigm that allows for the computational complexity of the system to be shifted from the encoder to the decoder. This makes DVC codes perfect for use in limited power wireless devices as well for distributed systems in the multi-view case. In this paper, a single-view multi-hypothesis transform domain DVC codec, which uses non-binary quasi-cyclic LDPC codes, is developed. A scaling factor for improving the correlation noise modeling of individual hypotheses as well as a new method for combining these hypotheses is presented. A closed form solution for optimal reconstruction based on the new method is derived. The simulations show that the system is robust and able to effectively compress a variety of sources. The system shows gains of up to 0.6 dB over state of the art DVC systems and gains of 2 dB over the intra mode of the h.264 codec.

In this paper we propose a new loss less image compression method. The suggested method relies on novel selective scan process that aims to scan the image in the direction where minimal pixel intensity change is recorded. Such scan process would reduce high frequency data, in order to provide a smooth and high correlated mono-dimensional signal easy to compress. This scan process is followed by an adapted coding scheme based on DPCM and Huffman algorithms. The experimental results show a significant compression improvement of the suggested method as compared to two common loss less coders in the same class.

A robust and geometric invariant digital image watermarking scheme based on SIFT based Feature Points Detector (SIFT_FPD) and histogram distribution is proposed in this paper. The SIFT_FPD is proposed to extract geometric invariant feature points from the host image for watermark embedding;and the descriptor is generated subsequently. With the feature extraction procedure, the circular regions centered at the extracted feature points and with the given radius are defined as embedding regions. For watermark embedding, some pixels are moved to form a specific pattern in the intensity-level histogram distribution in each embedding region, to indicate the watermark. For watermark extraction, the embedded regions are generated with the descriptor and according to the intensity-level histogram distribution in each region, the watermark can be extracted. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme is very robust against geometric distortion such as rotation, scaling, cropping, and affine transformation;and common signal processing, such as JPEG compression, median filtering, and Gaussian low-pass filtering.
