A new semi-fragile-watermarking-based quality estimation scheme is proposed in this paper. The watermark is embedded into the tree structure of an image with proper embedding strength decided by statistically analyzing the characteristics of the image. In the watermark embedding, the bit-plane coding mechanism is used to simulate the general distortion that images will undergo. A universal "Ideal Mapping Curve" is generated using the SPIHT (Set Partitioning in Hierarchical Trees) algorithm with different BPP (Bits Per Pixel) settings. In the watermark extraction, the quality of the watermarked images will be estimated under different distortions, such as JPEG compression and Gaussian noise pollution. The "Ideal Mapping Curve" used for quality estimation against different distortions can be achieved by weighting the universal "Ideal Mapping Curve" using the empirical weighting factors. The experimental results suggest that the proposed algorithm works effectively and efficiently. © 2011 ACM.

Recognizing handwritten mathematical content is a challenging problem, and more so when such content appears in classroom videos. However, given the fact that in such videos the handwritten text and the accompanying audio refer to the same content, a combination of a video and an audio based recognizer has the potential to significantly improve the content recognition accuracy. In this paper, using a combination of video and audio based recognizers, we focus on improving the character recognition accuracy in such videos and propose: (1) synchronization techniques for establishing a correspondence between the handwritten and the spoken content, and (2) combination techniques for combining the outputs of the video and audio based recognizers. The current implementation of the system makes use of a modified open source text recognizer and a commercially available phonetic word-spotter. For evaluation purposes, we use videos recorded in a classroom-like environment and our experiments demonstrate the significant improvements (≈ 24% relative increase as compared to the baseline video based recognizer) in character recognition accuracy that can be achieved using our techniques. © 2011 IEEE.

The digital video recording (DVR) closed circuit television (CCTV) system is quickly becoming one of the most accepted security, surveillance documentation, and monitoring in service today. Particularly a lot of catastrophes such as tsunami, volcano, and terrorism cause huge casualty and property loss. In this paper, we concentrate on the smoke detection system in video for early fire alarming. The proposed block-based smoke detection algorithm consists of three basic steps, which has simple operation and provides good performance. In the first step, we discover motion vector utilizing several motion estimation schemes and discern the suspect as smoke region. This process does not require huge computational cost because of using the H.264/AVC during the recoding in DVR system. In the second step, we conduct block based chromatic detection. In the third step, we employ motion information for detecting the correct smoke block by using the characteristics that smoke goes almost upward. Experimental results provide that the proposed method gives good performance for real smoke detection.

In order to solve the disadvantages of poor signal quality, short transmission distance about analog camera and images, sounds, environmental parameters not being combined in the existing mine monitoring equipment, a kind of multifunctional network camera used in underground based on the ARM9 series micro-processing chip ***27 is designed in this paper. The system can achieve image acquisition under low-light environment through low-light CCD image sensor;it can complete voice acquisition and processing through MIC and audio codec;it can access environmental parameters by RS-485 interface or wireless communication module with Mini PCI-E interface;it can implement the remote transmission about the information of video, audio, environmental parameters through Ethernet in mine. The low-voltage (≤3.3V) design of the system power not only conform the intrinsic safety demand, but also realize the low power consumption (4.5W) of the device. The experiments show that the multifunctional network camera based on ARM9 is in conformity with the intrinsic safety demand and realizes the functions of video monitoring, audio monitoring, environmental parameters accessing and network remote transmission. Hence, it will play an important role on the monitoring of mine security production and have the higher application value. © 2011 IEEE.

A passive universal image steganalysis method is proposed that is shown to be of higher detection accuracy than existing truly blind steganalysis methods including Farid's and the WAM. This is achieved by improving some weaknesses of Farid's steganalysis scheme in feature extraction, that is, instead of deriving an over-determined equation system for each sub band of the wavelet decomposition, the sub bands are divided into overlapping blocks and an over-determined equation system is constructed for each block. To guarantee the existence of finite answers, the over-determined equation systems are solved in a way different from Farid's by using Moore-Penrose pseudo-inverse concept. Further improvement to the performance is achieved by adding diagonal directions and increasing the number of moments. The comparative evaluations confirm the superiority of the proposed method over prevalent blind steganalysis schemes. © 2011 IEEE.

With the explosion of networks and the huge amount of data transmitted along, securing data content is becoming more and more important. Data encryption is widely used to ensure security in open networks such as the internet. This paper presents the implementation of stream cipher, where the key stream is generated based on the properties of Linear Feedback Shift Register and cyclic Elliptic Curve over a finite prime field. In this paper we illustrate the process of encryption/decryption of an image in spatial domain and also encrypt key file parameters needed for generating the key stream to other parties using Elliptic Curve Cryptography. Therefore the encrypted key file parameters are only transmitted and not the entire full-length key. Since Elliptic Curve Cryptography is replacing RSA for key exchange and Elliptic Curve based stream cipher offers a good choice for encryption in real time application. The strength of the proposed cipher lies in the generation of random sequence using Linear Feedback Shift Register over GF(p), difficulty of Elliptic Curve Discrete Logarithmic Problem and the entire key need not be transmitted in the encryption process. This paper also discusses the security aspects of the proposed cipher which is secure against all kinds of attacks. © 2011 IEEE.

The paper introduces an integrated model for monitoring and diagnosis of medical patterns. The designed architecture combines contourlet transform and supervised neuro-based classifier for tumor classification of liver and brain tissues of medical images. A contourlet based CAD model is proposed to adopt tumor diagnosis for abnormality detection in Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MRI) medical images by exploiting correlative information of suspicious lesions of brain and liver sections. Several enhancement schemes have been introduced for image fusion, noise reduction, feature extraction and classification. Feature extraction is adopted for inter-projective feature matching analysis. For each identified region of interest (ROI), distinct sets of texture features were extracted using first order statistics, spatial gray level dependence matrix (SGLD) and gray level difference Statistics Matrix for texture description. The simulation results show the superiority of the proposed model for both CT and MRI images from both the visual quality and the peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) points of view. The experimental results demonstrated that our proposed scheme can identify tumor regions and help radiologists as a second reader in some medical images. Performance comparison has been conducted between the final developed CAD system and other previously developed CAD systems. © 2011 IEEE.

We have presented the issues and proposed system for design and architecture of our own innovative work about the Location based System for Mobile Devices based on integration of RFID and wireless *** technologies are capable of supporting mobility for users,and thus are popularly adopted to access the internet *** long as the position of a user is identified,location-based services,such as tour guide systems and mobile shopping, can be delivered to the user and improve the convenience in *** indoor environment, the GPS signal cannot be received,and the positioning service requires the aid of indoor wireless technologies,such as wireless LAN,Bluetooth,Infrared and RFID. By integrating these heterogeneous wireless technologies, a hierarchical architecture for the indoor positioning service is proposed to enhance the positioning accuracy. The function of our system is based on strategically located passive RFID tags placed on objects around building which are identified using an RFID reader attached to a mobile *** mobile device reads the RFID tag and through the wireless network, sends the request to the *** server resolves the request and sends the desired location-based information back to the mobile device. We had addressed that we can go through the RFID technology for indoor which provides us better location accuracy because of no contact between the tag and the reader and the system requires no line of *** this paper we had also focused on the issues of RFID technologies ***-line-of-sight & High inventory speeds. © 2011 IEEE.

The internet of things (IOT) has brought a broader space to the intensive development of modern agriculture in the application of agricultural environmental monitoring. To solve the problems of real-time video acquisition, image acquisition and motion capture in the agricultural environment, this paper use the ARM S3C44B0X as the processor and put forward a new kind of real-time video acquisition technique based on 32bits embedded processor system. the optimized and minimized hardware system is designed, including designs the GAL gathering controller to control the output digital video signal data form SAA7111A to the frame buffer storage memory Al422, and expanded the interface of FLASH, SDRAM, CF Card, RS232, JTAG and so on;Secondly, through the transplanting of U-boot and uClinux system, the improved moving object examination algorithm using the difference of background was proposed based on the software platform constructed. Finally, the debug process of the unit circuit of the whole system is introduced in proper sequence. As a result, the digital image collecting system based on ARM S3C44B0X exists as a sole unit, and has lots of advantages such as small volume, low cost, good expansion, multifunctional and low power consumption. The system realized the functions of real-time video acquisition and processing. Combined with the GPS module and other sensors, the system can be widely used in the aspects of agricultural environmental monitoring, real-time data acquisition and remote monitoring and so on, with a more broad application prospects. © 2011 IEEE.

Digital image Processing is an ever expanding and dynamic area with applications reaching out into our everyday life such as digital gadgets, medicine, space exploration, internet technologies, surveillance, and many more areas. Applications such as these engross different processes like image compression, enhancement, filtering, resizing to name a few. The proposed work encompasses the effect of averaging and deblurring filtering techniques on the images, retrieved from an Adaptive Singular Value Decomposition (ASVD) algorithm. This paper explores and verifies the consequences of the application of averaging and deblurring filters to reconstructed images with varying values of rank of matrix (k), by using computing parameters such as Mean Square Error (MSE) and Peak signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) in accordance with quality of the image processed. Such a system developed may find the application in many embedded systems.
