Super-resolution image reconstruction is an important technology in many image processing areas such as image sensing, medical imaging, satellite imaging, and television signal conversion. It is also a key word of a recent consumer HDTV set that utilizes the CELL processor. Among various super-resolution methods, the learning-based method is one of the most promising solutions. The problem of the learning-based method is its enormous computational time for image searching from the large database of training images. We have proposed a new Total Variation (TV) regularization super-resolution method that utilizes a learning-based super-resolution method. We have obtained excellent results in image quality improvement. However, our proposed method needs long computational time because of the learning-based method. In this paper, we examine two methods that reduce the computational time of the learning-based method. The resulting algorithms reduce complexity significantly while maintaining comparable image quality. This enables the adoption of learning-based super-resolution to the motion pictures such as HDTV and internet movies.

This paper describes some of the basic principles, the system models for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) communication systems. Several pilot-based channel estimation technologies, such as the Least Square(LS) algorithm, the Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) algorithm and the Linear Minimum Mean Square Error (LMMSE) are given for the MIMO-OFDM communication systems. The simulation system performances are also provided.

With the development of three dimensional media resources, the corresponding intellectual property protection problem also occurs. In this paper, a blind stereoscopic image watermarking algorithm based on the relationship modulation is proposed. Firstly, the original stereoscopic images are divided into non-overlapping blocks respectively, and the polarity of these blocks in left and right images are defined. Secondly, the watermark is embedded by modulating the relationship between watermark and the polarity of the divided blocks. When the binary watermark is "1", the polarity of the corresponding image block is changed in order to make that the polarity of left image block is the same as the right one. On the contrary, the polarity of left image block is set to be not the same as the right one. The binary watermark is extracted by judging polarity which is consistent or not from the watermarked images without the original images. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is robust against some general image processing operations.

The lifting scheme reduces the computational complexity for computing Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) compared to convolution. 2-D DWT is widely used frequency domain transform for various multimedia applications. Due to battery operated handheld devices for multimedia application need is arise to design low power yet high speed and area efficient chip for 2-D DWT. We have proposed a high performance and memory efficient architecture with parallel scanning method for 2- D DWT using 5/3 Lifting wavelet and done chip level implementation using 180nm UMC standard cell library. This architecture is composed with two 1-D DWT units and a Transpose Unit (TU). Proposed parallel scanning reduces not only of on-chip line buffer but enhances through put as well compared to other line based scanning. Proposed 2-D DWT architecture utilizes only 2N size buffer for NxN sized image, which is low compare to 3.5N usual requirement for to implement 5/3 Lifting wavelet. Designed TU operates at half clock rate which reduces power and its design is independent of size of input image. Instead of shifter we propose Hardwired Scaling Unit (HSU) for coefficient multiplication in order to save dynamic power. This architecture is first synthesized using Xilinx ISE 10.1 and is implemented on Virtex-IIPRO XC2VP30 FPGA and then compile RTL with UMC 180 nm standard cell library for ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) implementation. This design is compared for power, speed and area with existed architectures.

A gradient vector flow (GVF) snake is proposed in this paper for the segmentation of skin cancer images. In order to make the snake insensitive to noise and be able to remove the hairs, an Adaptive Filter (Wiener and Median filters) is proposed. After the noise and hairs are removed, GVF snake will be used to segment the skin cancer region. The GVF snake extends the single direction and allows it to still be able to track the boundary of the skin cancer even if there are other objects near the skin cancer region. We have proposed new operators to find better edge map in a restored grey scale image. Subjective method has been used by comparing the performance of the proposed gradient vector flow (GVF) snake with other recommended operators of first derivative like Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts and second derivative like Laplacian. The root mean square error and root mean square of signal to noise ratio have been used for objective evaluation. Finally, to validate the efficiency of the filtering schemes different algorithms are proposed and the simulation study has been carried out. Experiments performed on 8(eight) cancer images show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. © 2011 IEEE.

This study proposes a customized and reusable component-based design framework based on the UML modeling process for intelligent home healthcare systems. All the proposed functional components are reusable, replaceable, and extensible for the system developers to implement customized home healthcare systems for different demands of patients and caregivers on healthcare monitoring aspects. The prototype design of the intelligent healthcare system based on these proposed components can provide the following features: 1). the system can monitor and record the videos of rehabilitation situations and actions of the patient by multiple CCD cameras, and the monitoring videos at different times can be accordingly stored in the archive. 2). the system can record the patient's physiological data records and the corresponding treatment plan, and these records can be stored in a XML archiving database for caregivers' review. 3). during the times for the patient to take medicine or other healing activities listed on the given treatment plan, the system can automatically alarm the patient and record the patient's treatment situations. 4). The patient's caregivers and family members can ubiquitously monitor the videos and physiological records of the patient's rehabilitation situations via the handheld mobile devices via the internet or wireless communication networks. 5). The caregivers and patients can setup the alarm machinery for the patients' physiological warning states, and once the patients' physiological states suddenly deteriorate, the module will immediately alarm the caregivers by sending notification messages to their remote mobile devices or web browsers. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper presents a new novel approach for automatic vehicle detection from a live video based on texture Gabor features. Vehicle detection is a pivotal part in collision avoidance systems, blind-spot monitoring, and self-guided vehicles. This system uses a low cost camera mounted near the rear-view mirror to obtain the live video. The Gabor filter features have been used to identify the potential vehicles in the frames by using the support vector machine. The initial detection of potential vehicle candidates has been improved by using correlation techniques. A robust detection technique is developed in which the vehicles are detected with accuracy up to 9 % in day light image sequences. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

License plate holds the very small proportion in the whole vehicle image, and the color, size and location for License plate is also uncertain. Fast and accurate localization for license plate is a difficult problem in the license plate recognition process. This paper presents a geometry license plate localization method based on machine vision. This method has very good compatibility to the gradation linear and nonlinear change, moreover support criterion and angle change. Experimental results indicate that the localization deviation does not surpass 1.0pixel and the angular deviation does not surpass 1.0 degrees under same level test condition. Robustness of this localization is basic consistent with Cognex Visionpro. The license plate localization can adapt the low signal-to-noise ratio, the low contrast gradient, the fuzzy situations and so on., which is also simple, practical and is better than traditional zone location and edge localization method.

Surveillance systems are very effective and important for security management, besides IP (internet protocol)-based surveillance system is widely used now. However, as the development of the internet, the scarcity of IP address becomes a serious problem for the massive application of IP-based surveillance system. With the help of IPv6 network, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) and the multimedia technology, an IPv6-based intelligent surveillance system is given in the paper to overcome the problem as well as giving a new way for the inspecting work. The system with the multi-functions of video surveillance, entrance guard, localization and SMS (Short Message Services) alarm has been successfully deployed in the unattended computer room in China Uniform for real-time surveillance and it has been proved stable and accurate.
