In this paper, we propose and evaluate various order assignment strategies for a new, highly-dynamic hybrid pallet storage and retrieval system or dynamic hybrid pallet warehouse (DHPW). The research gap we fill is the identification of the order assignment strategies, which guarantees the highest performance for this new warehouse system in different operational conditions. First, we present a brief description of the system under consideration. We then go on to present a brief literature review on order assignment strategies for stackercrane-based AS/RSs and AVS/RSs. Next, we develop our concept of order assignment strategies for a DHPW with sequenced retrieval and storage, followed by a discrete event simulation and an evaluation of the concepts according to the level of performance they enable. Finally, we identify the operations of the process whose order assignment strategy has the greatest impact on performance, and suggest an optimum combination of order assignment strategies.

The research topic of the laboratory Science Pour l'Environnement (SPE) and the laboratory STELLA MARE of Universit ' e de Corse, focus on solving the environmental problems of our time. Various research teams focus their work on modeling and simulation of complex systems and behavioral modeling of species. Generally, in this modeling process (abstractions from the real world), we observe that the parameterization of the models is usually very tedious, carried out in an empirical or intuitive way based on assumptions specific to each modeler. There are also several modeling techniques which are generally parameterized intuitively and empirically. We have therefore proposed an approach to optimize the parameterization of models based on the algorithms of these models. This approach uses meta-heuristics, a class of optimization algorithms inspired by nature for which we obtain remarkable results. The use of meta-heuristics in this approach is justified by the nature of the problem to be solved. Indeed, the parameterization of models can be considered as a complex problem with a very large solution space that needs to be explored in an intelligent way. The risk of a combinatorial explosion is also very high because of the number of variables to be optimized. The advantage of this approach that we propose is that it allows an evolutive optimization of the model parameterization as the data arrives. For the validation of this approach, we used simulated data from a theoretical model. The validation of this theoretical model opens possibilities of applications on real world models.

A magnetic tunnel junction, or an MTJ, is a spintronic device of nanoscale dimensions. It is a magneto-electric device that can hold two definite resistance states according to its magnetization states. MTJs can be used as memory elements due to their non-volatile nature. They can be fabricated into chips using VLSI techniques. The main applications of MTJs include computer memory, logic, and neuromorphic computing. This work focuses on the modelling of Spin Transfer Torque and Voltage-Controlled Magnetic Anisotropy Magnetic Tunnel Junctions (STT-VCMA MTJs) using a SPICE-based simulation approach. The study incorporates thermal effects, such as temperature-dependent variations in key parameters like saturation magnetization, spin polarization, uniaxial anisotropy, and VCMA coefficient. simulations reveal the impact of these temperature-dependent parameters on the switching behavior of MTJs. The results demonstrate that incorporating thermal effects is crucial for accurately capturing the dynamic behavior of MTJs, shedding light on the temperature-sensitive aspects of their operation. This work contributes to the understanding and development of robust SPICE models for STT-VCMA MTJs, facilitating their integration into larger electronic systems and supporting the exploration of novel memory technologies.

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies have gained significant attention in various domains. User interactions and error rates in VR/AR environments are crucial for improving system performance and user experience. In this study, a simulated dataset of 20,000 data points representing interactions of 1,000 users with four actions: 'Select,' 'Drag,' 'Resize,' and 'Rotate' is presented. Likelihood analysis is employed to explore error rates and their correlations with user-related factors such as action duration, fatigue, task success, preference, and learning rate. The findings deepen the understanding of error rates in VR/AR environments and provide insights into optimizing user experiences. The methodology of using simulated data and likelihood analysis can serve as a foundation for future studies investigating error modeling and prediction in real-world VR/AR applications. © 2023 IEEE.

The security and resilience of power systems are gradually challenged. As a typical index measuring the security and resilience of power systems, the frequency stability issue is becoming prominent. Due to the increase in the complexity of power systems, the frequency stability boundary is gradually becoming fuzzy, leading to traditional analytical-modeling algorithms hardly applicable for frequency stability constrained dispatch. Existing data-driven methods for characterizing frequency stability boundary typically requires massive simulation calculations, leading to unnecessary computing power consumption. To this end, zeroth-order (ZO) optimization, which aims to solve optimization problems embedding non-analytic functions, is adopted for solving the frequency stability constrained dispatch in this paper. In contrast to traditional data-driven methods, we directly embed frequency stability simulation check into power system dispatch. The gradient of frequency stability simulation check is estimated through ZO optimization, thereby realizing the interaction optimization between power system dispatch and real-time simulation. In this way, the solution for the frequency stability constrained dispatch is modified towards the optimal point along the gradient descent direction. Cases studies based on IEEE-9 bus system verifies that, compared with traditional data-driven methods, the solution approach we propose could reduce the system cost while significantly improving the calculation efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

The article examines the modeling and design of a subsystem of fiber-optic sensors for the diagnosis and monitoring of the operability of mechanical structures in a differential system. In this study, the definition of the problem was developed by a mathematical model of the FBG using the transfer matrix method and using this method, a simulation model for the sensor was solved. The transfer matrix method makes it possible to assign spectral characteristics of optical components based on the theory of coupled modes and the matrix description of an electromagnetic wave passing through an optical fiber. The simulation is performed by solving the equations of coupled modes in MatLab (Simulink) using the transfer matrix method, which provides the basis for the relationship between the controlled modes. The method can take into account refractive index profiles of arbitrary shape and be implemented in a tool called MatLab (Simulink). As a result of the study, optimization was carried out, where light is shed on the effectiveness of the proposed scheme for analyzing deformation measurements, obtaining a linear response. It's inventory-friendly, fast, and open-source. The main contribution of the study is the developed simulation model of the subsystem for fiber Bragg sensors, which shows that the power of the side lobes is completely minimized in the Gaussian reflection spectra of FBG, and the results of MatLab (Simulink) are in excellent agreement with the results of the optical lattice. MatLab (Simulink) has a wide range of applications in modeling various optical fibers for various fields such as visualization, communication, material processing and remote sensing. © 2023 IEEE.

Many technologies in complex system simulation (CSM), such as resource scheduling and load balancing, largely rely on historical data with different characteristics to predict the future. The accuracy of runtime prediction has a significant impact on scheduling performance. However, with cloud computing becoming the main infrastructure for deploying CSM applications, the current prediction methods are difficult to adapt to the dynamic changes of cloud computing resources. Insufficient computing resource allocation will be difficult to support the efficient operation of simulation. In addition, excessive computing resource allocation will lead to higher computing and data communication costs. Therefore, a simulation runtime prediction approach based on stacking ensemble learning has been proposed, which uses the characteristic variables of simulation applications (such as the number of simulation entities, the number of simulation events, the simulation time, etc.) and the performance monitoring data of computing resources (such as CPU utilization, memory utilization, etc.) as the characteristic inputs. The machine learning algorithms such as XBG, SVG, MLP are integrated by stacking model, and the performance of the integrated learning algorithm is comprehensively evaluated by mean absolute error (MAE), accuracy (ACC), root mean square error (RMSE) and coefficient of determination (R2). Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improve the prediction accuracy by 3% - 24% when compared with existing machine learning prediction methods.

Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies are widely spreading into multiple engineering sectors thanks to their flexibility to create complex geometries with virtual no material waste. AM technologies capabilities can be fully exploited when working with periodic lattices, creating topology-optimized structures through different cell types with different dimensions and volume fractions. Several factors (i.e., process parameters, quality and type of raw materials) can modify the mechanical properties of printed components and can be exploited to selectively create functionally graded materials or conventional laminated hybrid materials structures. This paper analyses and compares the mechanical properties of different additively manufactured lattice BCC structures through experimental and numerical means. At first, the manufacturing procedure followed by experimental tests is presented. The retrieved mechanical properties are then used as a benchmark for the numerical Finite Element Analyses and compared with analytical models available in the literature. The numerical simulation campaign includes the comparison of a full 3D model and a 1D/2D beam/shell formulation model. The research findings demonstrate a good correlation between the experimental tests and the numerical simulation results, indicating the potential for the proposed methodologies to be broadly implemented within various domains of structures and materials. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
