This paper presents an advanced control strategy for autonomous vehicle lateral dynamics using Sliding Mode Control (SMC) integrated with Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy logic and enhanced by the Barrier Lyapunov approach. The objective is to ensure fixed-time convergence and stability in the presence of uncertainties and disturbances. The mathematical model of the autonomous vehicle system is established as a preliminary step, after which control laws are designed. A comprehensive stability analysis is conducted to validate the stability and convergence of the overall system. The reaching law is adapted through the application of T-S fuzzy logic, thereby enhancing the controller's adaptability and reducing the phenomenon of chattering associated with the SMC method. The simulation results demonstrate superior performance, achieving a 33% faster convergence time compared to traditional SMC methods. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

This paper examines improved MOSFET performances, such as drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL), velocity saturation using nanowire technologies to better parameters such as on-current, total current density, tunneling rates, and doping profiles. It studies the traits of nanowire technology as compared to other materials based on TCAD simulation to understand their effectiveness in solving all the issues of conventional MOSFETs. The result shows that Silicon Nanowire has the excellent performance as compared to all the others with an on-current (Id) of 10-5. Thus, on these aspects, SiNWs are kept under regard for next-generation device applications that can excel in terms of electrostatic control, carrier mobility, and scalability. These factors make them a promising candidate for advanced device applications. It also studies net doping and tunneling rates through intensive cut-line studies.

The proliferation of wireless technologies in recent years has significantly impacted the North American freight railroad industry, and enabled them to drastically expand their communications capabilities for various railroad applications. The main challenge they now face, however, is the extreme congestion of radio-frequency (RF) spectrum resources, including those licensed by the railroad industry. Hence, the railroad industry is increasingly interested in investigating underutilized RF spectrum bands, such as the 160 MHz RF band. Due to the advantages of multi-carrier communications systems over single-carrier approaches, in this paper we present our simulation results for the performance of an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)-based communications system designed for 160MHz and its evaluation for different railroad environments. The transceiver design follows an implementable software-defined radio operation while conforming with regulatory requirements for the 160 MHz band. Our investigation presents the performance of QAM modulation ranging from 4QAM to 256QAM utilizing the Two-Ray ground reflection, Hata, and Winner 2 models to represent different railroad environments. In this investigation we analyze the simulated throughput versus distance for each modulation scheme and channel model to determine the maximum achievable communication distance before throughput deterioration. In order to verify the performance of our developed OFDM-based transceiver we compare our simulation results with the theoretical throughput for each modulation scheme under the considered channel models. The findings in this study will assist with the performance predictions of 160 MHz-based transceivers for additional railroad applications.

An investigation of the design, evaluation, and testing of a high-voltage-generating multilevel inverter system based on the TI F28379D microcontroller is detailed in this work. To evaluate the proposed system's performance and feasibility, the research includes developing mathematical models, control algorithms, conducting simulation studies, and validating the results experimentally. We select a cascaded H-bridge architecture for high-voltage generation to leverage the precise control and modulation capabilities of the TI F28379D microcontroller. We applied the CHB-MLI simulation model in MATLAB Simulink. Afterwards, the development of a 1 kVA prototype inverter at IPR confirmed the modeling results. Theoretical studies, simulation results, and experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the designed multilevel inverter system, underscoring its potential for a wide range of industrial applications. © 2025 IEEE.

The large-scale deployment of remote driving technologies can be limited by the large (upstream) link capacity necessary to stream the video from the onboard cameras to the remote driver. This paper proposes an algorithm that reduces the size of the upstream video, by selectively downsampling portions of the frame recorded by the onboard cameras. Portions of the frame to downsample are selected, which surround those road users (RUs) that are not likely to collide with the remotely driven vehicle. In this paper, we propose to select such RUs by using reachability analysis techniques. In order to limit the computational overhead introduced by the proposed algorithms, we resort to reachability analysis based on ellipsoidal sets. The algorithm is demonstrated in a simulation environment in a T-junction by showing a significative reduction of the frames size.

simulation tools are essential for robotics research, especially for those domains in which safety is crucial, such as Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC). However, it is challenging to simulate human behaviors, and existing robotics simulators do not integrate functional human models. This work presents Open-VICO, an open-source toolkit to integrate virtual human models in Gazebo focusing on vision-based human tracking. In particular, Open-VICO allows to combine in the same simulation environment realistic human kinematic models, multi-camera vision setups, and human-tracking techniques along with numerous robot and sensor models thanks to Gazebo. The possibility to incorporate pre-recorded human skeleton motion with Motion Capture systems broadens the landscape of human performance behavioral analysis within Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) settings. To describe the functionalities and stress the potential of the toolkit four specific examples, chosen among relevant literature challenges in the field, are developed using our simulation utils: i) 3D multi-RGB-D camera calibration in simulation, ii) creation of a synthetic human skeleton tracking dataset based on OpenPose, iii) multi-camera scenario for human skeleton tracking in simulation, and iv) a human-robot interaction example. The key of this work is to create a straightforward pipeline which we hope will motivate research on new vision-based algorithms and methodologies for lightweight human-tracking and flexible human-robot applications.

In the perpetual challenge against infectious diseases, the implementation of effective public health strategies requires a deep understanding of how illnesses work and how they spread, accurate estimation of parameters, and strategic planning for interventions. This paper explores the fundamental principles of the Susceptible - Exposed - Infectious - Recovered (SEIR) model, a widely utilized mathematical framework employed for monitoring infectious diseases. The real-life applications of Matrices were utilized through the SEIR Model simulation, which employs a simulation loop that constantly updates the state vector. This paper also highlights the critical role of mathematical modeling, especially the SEIR model, in advancing our comprehension of the dynamics of infectious diseases. It underscores the importance of utilizing matrix operations and examines various models and approaches, contributing to the ongoing discourse in computational epidemiology and initiatives for public health. The discourse further delves into the significance of matrix operations within the SEIR model, where matrices play a crucial role in quantifying transitions between compartments and influencing the outcomes of simulations. By drawing on insights from related literature, this paper explores the evolution of infectious disease modeling, giving emphasis to the extended SEIR model and its applications in diverse contexts, such as ACL transmission dynamics and the complexities of the SARS-Co V-2 pandemic.

WEC-Sim is an open-source software for simulating wave energy converters and has been actively developed and applied since its initial release in 2014 to simulate a wide variety of device archetypes. WEC-Sim is developed jointly by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories within the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. A general wave-to-wire model begins with a deployment site resource characterization, which is used to complete the hydrodynamic simulation of wave energy converters (WEC), with the power generation profile imported to a grid simulator to understand the influence on the local electrical network. While modeling the entire wave-to-wire is difficult and encompasses multiple time scales and physics, WEC-Sim is focused on the hydrodynamics simulation to predict, analyze, and optimize WEC dynamics and power performance. WEC-Sim simulations are performed in the time domain based on the radiation and diffraction method using hydrodynamics coefficients derived from boundary element method (BEM)-based frequency-domain potential flow solvers (e.g., WAMIT, NEMOH, Capytaine, or ANSYS-AQWA). With this level of modeling fidelity, WEC-Sim can handle floating body hydrodynamics, mechanical and electrical power generation methods, advanced control implementation, mooring systems, and other unique applications such as desalination. Additional WEC-Sim functionalities include pre-built Simulink blocks and MATLAB scripts that can simulate a wide range of floating systems and the corresponding auxiliary subsystems. The developers of WEC-Sim continue to release new versions of the software, at least annually, with the latest release in September 2022. These releases include bug fixes, updates to software documentation, as well as new features to expand WEC-Sim's capabilities to model a wide range of WEC concepts. This work presents an enhanced gain quadratic type boost converter (EQBC) for driving point-of-load applications. The presented topology provides a higher gain boost and superior performance compared to the traditional boost converters with quadratic gain. To develop voltage gain relationships and predetermine capacitor voltages, methodologies such as Volt-sec balance of inductor and amp-sec balance of capacitor are used. The state-space averaging technique is applied to obtain a linearized model. A voltage mode controller is developed to maintain a consistent output voltage throughout a wide range of operating points around the nominal value. To ensure better load voltage regulation, the controller design is subjected to robustness requirements. PSIM and MATLAB simulation results for a 33 W/100V dc output with 24V dc input are presented to verify analytical results of the proposed converter. To demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed converter, steady state waveforms and load voltage curves when exposed to source and load disturbances are provided. © 2022 IEEE.

As the demand for renewable energy sources continues to grow, optimizing the efficiency of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems becomes increasingly important. This study illustrates a solar PV system that determines maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in solar inverter applications adopting a Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA). The CSA provides a distinctive approach for determining the maximum power under various scenarios and is modeled after the brood parasitism of some cuckoo species. This study examines the algorithm’s performance in real-time tracking of maximum power output, analyzing its responsiveness to change in irradiance and temperature. simulation results using MATLAB demonstrate that the CSA achieves greater efficiency and faster convergence compared to traditional MPPT methods.
