Aging leads to reduced cognitive abilities. A person heading toward dementia will also show such signs but with more severity. This stage is referred to as Mild Cognitive Impairment. It has been observed that nearly one-fifth of the people suffering from MCI convert to dementia. The patients suffering from MCI who convert to dementia are called MCI-Converts and those who do not convert are called MCI Non-converts. This work proposes a model that extracts gray matter from the s-MRI brain volume and explores the applicability of combination of Convolutional Neural Network and Recursive Feature Elimination in the diagnosis of MCI. Features of the data obtained using the carefully crafted CNN followed by the selection of the appropriate features using Recursive Feature Elimination are then used to accomplish the task. Empirical analysis has been done to select the parameters of the CNN. The results are better than the state of the art and pave way for the exploitation of the Deep Learning models to classify the Converts and the Non-converts. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The purpose of this work is to present a discrete wavelet transform-based de-noising procedure for ECG signal processing. The proposed method is applied on various wavelet transform to analyze waveform of noisy ECG signals and remove high-frequency noise with correction of baseline drift. In order to illustrate the quality and performance of the method, extraction of statistical parameters, including standard deviation, mean square error, signal-to-noise ratio and retained energy, from synthesized signal is done. From the obtained results, it was found that DWT-based de-noising technique preserves the dynamic and morphological features of ECG signal while suppressed noise components to some extent. The method is trained on ECG signal taken from MIT-BIH arrhythmia database from PhysioNet. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

According to classification framework of classical neural network, contemporary neural network, and soft computing, the basic concepts of the feedforward neural network (MLP, BP, and RBF), the feedback neural network (Hopfield, Boltzmann, Elman), the self-organizing neural network (SOM, ART, CPN), deep and extreme neural network (Deep learning, extreme learning), the novel neural network (SVM, PNN), and soft computing neural networks combined with various methods are introduced, and the research progress and typical applications of the neural network in fault diagnosis are given. The existing problems and future development directions of fault diagnosis are also discussed.
