A novel approach for dual-function radar-communication (DFRC), by making use of frequency diversity in waveforms, is proposed in this paper. This is an approach to make use of an available band of spectrum (2.38–2.42 GHz) for both radar and communication. Unlike the previous approaches, the system can process both radar and communication signals simultaneously. Digitization of receive signals at the element level gives a way to deliver maximum flexibility. The use of neural network is to minimize the BER and for optimizing beam formation. MUSIC algorithm is applied to phased array to precisely estimate the arrival directions of signals. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

Foremost leading-edge integrated circuit applications like microprocessors, digital signal processors, RF processors, and mixed-signal processors need low power and less area of die utilization. This paper presents entirely a different method of designing and analyzing the primary modules of four-bit ripple carry adders, multiplexers of various sizes, full adders, and full subtractors based on decomposite Shannon’s expansions and MGDI techniques. The proposed systems are modules in nature indicating that it can easily be upgraded to various leading-edge ICs. The core benefit is less transistors and less power consumption. The implementation and analysis of these digital systems are done by using Microwind and Digital Schematic at 0.12 µm technology and analyzed area and total power consumption with different technologies and power supply voltages. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

Multipliers play an important role in any processor or computing machine. The performance of arithmetic circuits is evaluated from the performance of multipliers of those circuits. The conventional multiplier circuits process only two binary data at a time for multiplication. This paper proposes a methodology to multiply three binary numbers at once. This methodology reduces the complexity of the circuit for multiplying three binary numbers as compared to the existing methods of multiplying. When implemented in a circuit, this has turned out to increase the performance of the multiplier based on proposed methodology in terms of power, gates and delay as compared to existing multipliers. Based on simulation results for design of circuit for multiplying three 4-bit binary numbers, the proposed methodology shows a reduction of 37.56, 62.90 and 41.35% in propagation delay, power consumption and gate counts, respectively, as compared to existing techniques. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

The Indian mesosphere–stratosphere–troposphere (MST) radar is the prominent atmospheric radar that provides the atmospheric movements’ information. The radar data is analyzed to obtain the wind parameter that requires the power spectral estimation. At higher altitudes, the estimation of Doppler spectrum is found to be unsatisfactory using both parametric and nonparametric methods for spectral estimation. In this article, the hyperparameter-free, weighted sparse iterative covariance-based estimation (SPICE) method has been considered. Unlike existing SPICE method, a different hyperparameter–free, weighted SPICE method has been derived using a gradient approach with different step sizes. The two versions of SPICE algorithm, i.e., SPICEa and SPICEb, are applied to the practical MST radar data collected at National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, Gadanki (13.5°N, 79.2°E). The obtained results are evaluated with the existing atmospheric data processor results which use the basic periodogram method. The proposed method shows the significant enhancement in signal-to-noise ratio even at elevated heights. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2019.

The electrocardiogram is a graphical record of the biological signal that is thought to be susceptible to electrical activity of the heart and utilized in order to clinical diagnosis. Electrocardiogram signal is very responsive in nature, and even if there is small noise mixed with the original signal, assorted characteristics of signal change. ECG signal voltage level is as low as 0.5 to 5 mV and is sensitive to artifacts larger than this. Human electrocardiogram signal range frequency ingredients from 0.05 Hz to 100 Hz and are related to noise, muscle movements, network current, and ambient electromagnetic interference. Electrocardiogram is a very significant sign detects abnormal heart rhythms and examines cause of chest pain and widely utilized in cardiology. Most digital signals are infinitely large or too large to be manipulated as a whole. Because statistical calculations require that all points be present for analysis, it is difficult to statistically analyze sufficiently large signals. To avoid these problems, engineers characteristically analyze small subsets of the aggregate data with an operation named windowing. Fuzzy logic is a mathematical logic that attempts to solve problems with a clear, uncertain data spectrum that makes it possible to obtain a series of correct results. This manuscript suggests denoising method Gaussian Weighted Moving Windowing for denoising Electrocardiogram signals to remove random noise. This study is interpreted with the actual data set and confirmed according to Peak signal to noise ratio.

The fractional Fourier transform is an extended version of the classical Fourier transform which is a time–frequency distribution. FRFT finds a wide range of applications in the areas of signal processing, specifically in noise removal and signal restoration. This paper gives the application of fractional Fourier transform for speech denoising using hard and soft thresholding techniques. The additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is considered as affecting noise to the speech signal. The performance analysis is done based on soft and hard thresholding techniques. Belief propagation (BP) algorithm of polar codes suffers from very high computational complexity when the iteration number becomes larger. In this paper, an early stopping criterion is proposed to avoid unnecessary iterations efficiently. The proposed only needs to detect whether the proportion of unchanged soft-output messages in a detection space exceeds a threshold. The proposed iteration can achieve a desired trade-off between complexity and decoding performance. Simulation results have shown that when the maximum iteration number is 40, the flooding BP (FO-BP) decoder with the proposed criterion can reduce 82.17% of iterations at 3.5dB compared with the FO-BP decoder without early stopping criterion. The proposed criterion costs N/32 additions and N/32 comparisons, where N indicates the code length, which effectively reduces the computational complexity.

Nowadays, it is crucial to promote and develop the autonomy of people, and specifically of individuals with some disability, in order to improve their life quality and achieve a better inclusion into sociocultural life. Therefore, the identification of stress situations can be a suitable assistive tool for improving their socio-cultural inclusion. This work presents important enhancements and variations for an existing fuzzy logic stress detection system based on monitoring and processing different physiological signals (heart rate, galvanic skin response and breath). First, it proposes a method based on wavelet processing to improve the detection of R peaks of electrocardiograms. Afterwards, it proposes to decompose the galvanic response signal into two components: the average value and the variations. In addition, it proposes to extract information out the breath signal by analyzing its frequential composition. Finally, an improved response in detecting stress changes is shown in comparison with other previous works. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid (DNA) sequencing is a rapidly expanding biomedical research technology used for molecular diagnostics. It is basically a process of determining the precise order of nucleotide bases. The three unit nucleotide combinations within a DNA form codons which are related to amino acids and subsequently to proteins. One of the primary principles of disease detection is based on irregularities in the codon grouping. The focus of this work is to determine abnormalities in the codon sequence using soft computing tools and thereby provide a reliable computational mechanism for disease detection which have distinct genetic linkage.

In recent years, the problem, which copes with high-dimensional data by the method of cluster analysis, has become a focus and difficulty in the field of artificial intelligence. Many conventional soft subspace clustering techniques merge several criteria into a single objective to improve performance, however, the weighting parameters become important but difficult to set. A novel soft subspace clustering with a multi-objective evolutionary approach (MOSSC) is proposed to this problem. First, two new objective function is constructed by minimizing the within-cluster compactness and maximizing the between-cluster separation based on the framework of soft subspace clustering algorithm. Based on this objective function, a new way of computing clusters' feature weights, centers and membership is then derived by using Lagrange multiplier method. The properties of this algorithm are investigated and the performance is evaluated experimentally using UCI datasets.
