Many organizations are involved in the development of complex systems, e. g., cyber-physical systems. Organizations work collaboratively to describe these systems, using models, which are developed using multiple languages and tools. The models may contain intellectual property that must be protected from other parties, including other contributors. To enable the ongoing exchange of models and to ensure intellectual property protection, our new idea is to use encrypted deltas, i.e., arbitrary changes made to a model. These encrypted deltas are stored on a chain, which we call Deltachain. Encryption enables free exchange of the Deltachain, e.g., on third-party commercial file storage servers. Collaborators involved in the development of the model can access the encrypted Deltachain, decrypt the parts to which they have access, and then work with those decrypted parts which are created by applying the deltas. Subsequently, the collaborators can encrypt their deltas to the model parts and append the encrypted deltas to the Deltachain. Our vision is the use of this Deltachain by collaborating organizations as a single source of truth.

During system testing of automotive electrical control units various reasons can lead to invalid test failures, e.g., non-responding components, faulty simulation models, faulty test case implementations, or hardware or software misconfigurations. To determine whether a test failure is invalid and what the underlying cause was, the test executions have to be analyzed manually, which is tedious and therefore costly. In this work, we report the magnitude of the problem of invalid test failures with four system testing projects from the automotive domain. We find that up to 91% of failed test executions are considered invalid. An oftentimes overlooked challenge are unreliable test infrastructures which deteriorate the validity of the test runs. In the studied projects already between 27% and 53% of failed test executions are linked to unreliable test infrastructures.

The increasing quality and availability of Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) is fueling a growing interest in quantum computing across many technological areas. The resulting increase in demand for QPU resources necessitates Quantum Computing as a Service (QCaaS) providers to support a high throughput of quantum workloads. A major runtime bottleneck in current QCaaS software stacks is the computationally-intensive compilation step which requires significant compute. To address this, Oxford Quantum Circuits has introduced distributed compilation whereby quantum programs are compiled in parallel and stored until the QPU is available. This has replaced our previous serial compilation approach where each program was compiled immediately prior to execution. From experiments using our production compilers and a simulated backend representing the QPU, we show that distributed compilation has resulted in a 78% reduction in processing time as compared to serial compilation. This demonstrates that there are sizeable performance gains to program throughput attainable through the introduction of distributed compilation into a QCaaS architecture. We posit that the usefulness of this feature will only grow given the increasing complexity of quantum programs and the growing popularity of quantum -classical hybrid algorithms.

One example is robotics, we currently see a rise in industry's need for well-educated roboticists, which is reflected in an increasing number of robotics degree programs. In these programs, students are trained to develop individual software-based applications for standardized robotics hardware. In addition, students need to be able to blend into bigger softwareengineering programs considering IoT applications. Therefore, softwareengineering is an important part of students' education. However, due to other important fields to be taught during their studies (e.g., electrical engineering, mechanical engineering), it is impossible to teach all softwareengineering related aspects as is part of a softwareengineering. In addition, students are missing basic knowledge from lower semester computer science subjects, which are not part of these technical degree programs as well. Therefore, there is a need to define a softwareengineering curriculum for these technical engineering degree programs that provides students with sufficient softwareengineeringknowledge and skills.

In recent years, the rapid development of deep neural networks and their application technologies has propelled autonomous driving systems (ADS) towards commercialisation. However, due to the high safety requirements of ADSs, ensuring their safety and reliability remains a critical challenge in softwareengineering. Existing testing methods focus on simple driving scenarios with few traffic participants, neglecting the impact of high traffic density on ADS driving performance. This paper presents an empirical study exploring how traffic density affects ADS behaviour. We developed a testing framework using two open-source ADSs to generate scenarios with varying traffic densities in a high-fidelity simulator. Our results indicate that changes in traffic density significantly affect ADS performance. Different traffic densities reveal various types of safety violations and help identify potential design flaws in ADSs. This study highlights the importance of considering traffic density in ADS testing and contributes to a better understanding of ADS performance under different traffic conditions.
