The rapid adoption of remote and hybrid work models in response to the COVID-19 pandemic has brought significant changes to communication and coordination within software development teams, affecting how various activities are executed. Nowadays, these changes are shaping the new post-pandemic environments and continue to impact software teams. In this context, our study explores the characteristics and challenges of remote communication between software developers and software testers. We investigated how these professionals have adapted to the unique circumstances imposed by COVID-19, especially because many of them have now become permanent in the software industry. In this process, we explored their communication practices and interaction dynamics and how they potentially affect software evolution and quality. Our findings reveal that the transition to remote and hybrid work has resulted in notable changes in communication patterns and task coordination, which could potentially affect the overall quality of project deliverables. Additionally, we highlight the importance of adapting existing workflows, introducing new management practices, and investing in technology to facilitate remote interaction among developers and testers.

Quantum softwareengineering (QSE) has emerged as a discipline to address the challenges associated with developing software systems in the context of advancing quantum computing technology. This paper explores architectural design patterns specific to QSE. Building on previous work highlighting the need for high-level patterns, we analyze emerging architectural approaches in quantum computing. We identify key challenges unique to hybrid quantum -classical systems and propose a preliminary taxonomy of QSE architectural patterns. These patterns address recurring design problems in areas such as quantum resource management and classical-quantum integration. We describe several potential patterns and discuss their theoretical applications in hybrid software systems. This work aims to provide a foundation for further research into standardizing QSE architectural practices, with the goal of enhancing various quality characteristics of hybrid software (e.g., modularity or maintainability) in the NISQ era and beyond.

Exponential AI development requires an adaptation to new technology by traditionally reluctant architects and allied practitioners. This paper examines the potential of the software design pattern (SDP) model, used in softwareengineering to capture and reapply designs, as one underpinning. Patterns have creativity and pedagogical benefits in parametric modelling, yet consideration of AI and broader design computing as well as the derivation and versatility implied by an SDP model are underexamined. This research questions how, in an AI context, new patterns may evolve for varied AI levels and non-geometrical features. It is undertaken in the Unity game engine with critical application of two prominent extant patterns as a computational workflow design response to a real-world citizen engagement scenario. A novel, feature-agnostic pattern is derived with a simple AI model and is verified for other AI models. The work concludes design computing patterns can abstract existing pattern knowledge to flexibly evolve and apply across rapidly changing AI-enabled design computing contexts and thereby assist practitioners to positively respond to AI advances.
