The profile of the graduate allows to understand the objective of training during the teaching-learning process in the higher educational institutions, which, in turn, shows the competences acquired by the students. In order to predict the achievement of the captured profile, the present research sought to implement a model in machine learning to predict the achievement of the profile of the graduate in the students of the Faculty of Systems engineering of the National University of the Center of Peru (hereinafter nominated as FIS-UNCP), having as input indicators academic performance. The research was carried out following the scientific method, of a quantitative approach, explanatory-predictive level, where the design was nonexperimental longitudinal trend, the chosen population took into account the 355 students of the FIS-UNCP enrolled during the 2023-II academic semester. After the investigation, the result was obtained that the predictive model presents a 97.50% accuracy in the forecasts, with a specificity of 100%, evidencing that the model succeeds in predicting the achievement of the profile of the graduate having as inputs to the indicators of the academic performance of the students. In conclusion, with a T-value=3.239 and P-value=0.001, it can be stated that academic performance significantly influences the achievement of the graduate profile based on a prediction model with machine learning in FIS-UNCP students.

Natural sciences are important for humanity and our knowledge of the world. A key factor for effective teaching that can lead to knowledge and improvement of learning outcomes is the promotion of students' active participation, the activation of their creativity and their encouragement to implement their own ideas in the educational process, based on their own experiences and individual learning styles. Teachers are suggested to adapt their teaching practices based on their teaching subjects, the profile and learning styles of their students, and the teaching goals they have set for any particular subject. The flipped classroom approach and the creation/visualization of students' mental representations/models in natural sciences were applied as an alternative form of teaching in order to strengthen students' creativity, positive attitude towards science and their cognitive level. Students of a University Pedagogical Department, as being prospective primary education teachers, participated in the research. For the purposes of the study, a mixed method research approach (qualitative and quantitative) was used. The results of the focus group discussion and personal interviews as well as students' final exams revealed a number of interesting findings arising from the application of the specific technique and tools (flipped classroom, self-made models/constructions/visualization of scientific concepts). According to the results, students' creativity was highlighted and enhanced, their active participation in the educational procedure increased significantly and their attitude towards science was positively modified, followed by improved cognitive results.

Online learning platforms are crucial today to ensure uninterrupted teaching and learning. Lecturers upload recorded lectures on these platforms, aiding students having connectivity issues and supporting distance education. However, these lecture recordings are often too lengthy to efficiently navigate to the most attentional content, which includes essential information provided in the lecture. This study proposes a new method to navigate lengthy videos by automatically identifying the most attentional content in video lectures. It would be a better alternative to the existing findings, such as text search in the audio transcript or manual video pausing. Three sub-questions drove the research: what are lecturers' most common techniques to emphasise the most attentional content, how can these techniques be identified in slides, and how can a navigational structure be created to access the most attentional content in video lectures? The research employed a constructive research approach. It started with a questionnaire to uncover lecturers' common techniques, such as text highlighting, underlining, and writing on the slides to denote the most attentional content. The study included a comparative analysis of existing image processing techniques such as Contour Detection, Canny Edge Detection, and Probabilistic Hough Line Transformation, and a machine learning object detection model named EfficientDet DO 512x512 to identify the most attentional content in video frames. The findings revealed that the object detection model was more effective in identifying the most attentional content. Finally, the research employed a strategy involving video frame capturing, slide transition detection, tagging video frames with timestamps, and relevant transcribed words to generate the navigation structure. The findings demonstrated that the navigation structure could effectively locate slides containing the most attentional content with high precision values. Hence, this research can

Training science and engineering students to become responsible citizens and professionals requires novel and creative pedagogical approaches, such as design thinking. This concept relies on processes and tools to develop creativity and problem-solving skills with a human-centered mindset in learning scenarios. This article presents the implementation of a digital intervention designed to support collaboration in design thinking activities. These activities are built around the Sustainability Value Proposition Canvas. This canvas was developed to structure the collaborative design of a human-centered value proposition. Our results indicate that the students adopted a human-centered approach. We observed that contributions to the value proposition were evenly distributed within the groups. Our observations suggest that collaboration was not impaired by the usage of digital tools. They revealed that the students worked in parallel but did not build on each other's contributions most of the time. Finally, our data shed light on a difference between the usage of two types of collaborative digital tools, a virtual canvas and a text editor. In addition to these results, we demonstrate how learning analytics can be harnessed to reconstruct and analyze design processes. This paper contributes to science and engineering education by providing new insights on teamwork activities supported by digital tools in design-based learning scenarios.

Water is one of the most essential natural resources for the sustenance of humankind. Despite its renewable nature, water faces considerable challenges arising from urban growth, climate change, and deforestation. Effectively managing water to meet the demands of agricultural activities remains a formidable task due to the inherent difficulty in predicting water quantities. This study addresses these concerns by tapping into the rapid advancement of computing power on edge devices and employing federated learning techniques. Deploying and training prediction models on resource-limited devices allows for rapid prediction and response to water levels, outpacing conventional deployment and training on centralized servers. However, the distribution of water level stations in Thailand presents a problem in transferring prediction models from edge devices for aggregation on a central server due to communication cost constraints. Consequently, this paper applied hierarchical federated learning to predict water levels in Thailand. This approach aims to reduce communication overhead and enhance scalability. The study examined the clustering of water level stations in Thailand based on Harversine distance, aiming to balance between reducing communication costs and minimizing accuracy loss. As a result, the proposed approach clusters the water level stations into ten clusters. This clustering yields a reduction in distance from local water level stations of 78.02%.
The incorporation of technology and teaching-learning techniques evolves over time. However, the methodological aspects seem to remain fairly invariant as well as the teaching strategies. These continuous incorporatio...
