Promoted by the significant increase of large scale internet access, many audiences have turned to the web and to its resources for learning and inspiration, with diverse sets of skills and intents. In this context, Multimedia Online Open Courses (MOOC) consist in learning models supported on user-friendly web tools that allow anyone with minimum computer literacy to get involved. Although this model is popular abroad, it is not commonly used in the Portuguese Higher Education scenario. Therefore, this paper presents a proposal for structuring in a MOOC an already validated set of post-graduation courses in the field of Information and Communication Technologies applied to education in Portuguese. This paper also aims to establish a threshold for perfect MOOC framing in higher education contexts. The Quantitative Evaluation Framework (QEF) approach was selected for this evaluation to highlight the strengths and limitations of the Post-graduations in Technologies and computing applied to Education. With this project we intend to contribute for promoting education professionals' personal training at distance, in a stimulating, interactive and flexible environment, giving access to knowledge to innumerable amount of professionals who might not have access to these courses with adjustable schedules, and real life validation (and accreditation).

In Infrastructure as a Service clouds, customers lease virtual resources (e.g., CPU, memory, network) offered by cloud providers, paying for the allocated capacity of resources, regardless of their effective use. In this context, it is in the interest of the customers to reserve resources with sufficient capacity so that their applications achieve good performance while, at the same time, minimizing their expenses with idle capacities. The correct provisioning of resources is also invaluable to providers, who seek to maximize the resource usage of their physical infrastructures, avoiding spending maintenance costs with unused hardware such as high capacity servers and networking devices. We introduce Escada, a novel model for network bandwidth prediction to guide the provisioning of virtual machines. Escada is application-oblivious and dynamically adapts to changes in a virtual machine workload profile. The network flows of a virtual machine are monitored and used to estimate its total required bandwidth over a time period. A prediction algorithm is then applied to the entire history of estimates to predict the virtual machine future required bandwidth. Our experimental evaluation shows that the estimates provided by Escada are useful for guiding the prediction of network bandwidth requirements, providing accurate bandwidth estimates even when the network is under-provisioned. Furthermore, Escada correctly adjusts its prediction algorithm faster than the state-of-the-art model and predicts more reliably during the adjusting period. © 2017 IEEE.

The internet is in use nowadays all over the world. While using the internet, the identities of the sender and receiver are not hidden;to hide the sender and receiver identities anonymous communication was introduced. A classroom environment monitoring system was developed as a demonstration to Computer Science and Information Technology undergraduate students to enhance their learning experience. Monitoring and controlling the classroom environment, including the lighting and temperature levels in real-time was the primary functionality of the system. Using data on the optimal light and temperature setting, the demonstration system was able to monitor and assess the environment to ensure the comfort of the students. The system demonstrated to the students the concepts and practices of the internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing can be beneficially applied and to provide services in specific application areas, this time in education, with simple system design and implementation. While such an application is not new in concept or implementation, the important features of similar systems discussed in previous systems related to the classroom environment monitoring were identified and analysed, and the best and most important features incorporated in our system, together with our own ideas, to provide the students with a significant learning experience based on a real application, which we implemented and presented as a prototype. The attributes of our system are discussed, and the success in providing a good learning experience for the students are discussed. We suggest that argue that more research is needed on this topic, and encourage other researchers to participate in the topic.

The use of Ubiquitous computing, Mobile computing and internet of Things (UMI) technologies can open new opportunities for STEM education1. UMI-Sci-Ed, a Horizon 2020 project, explores the new possibilities and through a multidisciplinary approach proposes a new integrated framework for engaging all stakeholders (students, teachers, domain and technology experts, entrepreneurs) in order to promote positive attitudes towards innovation and a knowledge-based society. In this paper we present preliminary results on the methodology followed to leverage STEM education via UMI technologies. In particular, we discuss key components of this methodology, an example educational scenario and the corresponding UMI application developed and a preliminary evaluation of the approach in the context of a local school. © 2017 Association for computing Machinery.

With the development of the internet of Things(IoT), where things are connected to the internet, the number of IoT services and users is increasing day by day. Cloud computing is widely used to save and process the huge amounts of data generated by increasing IoT devices efficiently. However transmission delay problem occurs in the cloud computing environment because the huge amounts of data generated by the IoT devices is saved in the remote cloud servers. To solve this problem, fog computing emerged. Fog computing is a concept that brings cloud servers close to user area to provide high quality service by reducing the network transmission time. In this paper, we propose a Monitoring, Analyzing, and Controlling as a Service, which called MACaaS, platform for the fog computing. The proposed MACaaS platform provides services for monitoring, analyzing and controlling various IoT devices. In addition, the proposed platform can easily expand new services according to the additional requirements of IoT devices and users and provide the consistent interface for integrating various IoT devices. © 2017 Association for computing Machinery.

Cloud computing is an inevitable technology using by the internet users for their day to day usage, Various cloud service providers offering different services (like Software, Platform, Infrastructure, Storage etc.,..) to various customers through the internet. Users are confused to choose best and cost reduction service provider. Our frame work designed based on user concerned, this will aid to user to select suitable and optimized cost service provider based on the necessary key performance indicators. We proposed frame work will address the key issues like User categorization, Trust analysis, Cost analysis, ranking the service providers, and Priority based selection. Hence Cost analysis based on the Service Level Agreement (SLA) cost of components, Ranking to be done based on grade values, and Priority Feedback Decision Tree applied to select best service provider from similar highest rank list.

Searching for gifts’ inspirations for relatives is becoming increasingly difficult. In the real time processing, a new emerging technology where the need of connecting smart devices with cloud through internet has raised. IoT devices processed information is to be stored and accessed anywhere needed with a support of powerful computing performance, efficient storage infrastructure for heterogeneous systems and software which configures and controls these different devices. A lot of challenges to be addressed are listed with this new emerging technology as it needs to be compatible with the upcoming 5G wireless devices too. In this paper, the benefits and challenges of this innovative paradigm along with the areas open to do research are shown.
