This paper presents a new combined local and global transform domain-based feedback image enhancement algorithm for medical diagnosis, treatment, and clinical research. The basic idea in using local alfa-rooting method is to apply it to different disjoint blocks with different sizes. The block size and alfa-rooting parameters driven through optimization using the Agaian's cost function (image enhancement non-reference quality measure). The presented new approach allows enhancing MRI and CT images with uneven lighting and brightness gradient by preserving the local image features/details. Extensive computer simulations (CS) on real medical images are offered to gage the presented method. CS shows that our method improves the contrast and enhances the details of the medical images effectively compared with the current state-of-art methods. © 2019, Society for Imaging Science and Technology.

Facial malformations such as overbite or underbite can be treated by maxillofacial surgery where the mandibula (i.e. the lower jaw) and/or maxilla (i.e. the upper jaw) is repositioned to obtain a preferential occlusion. These treatments need to be carefully planned prior to the actual operation. The planning of such surgery is an intensive and time consuming procedure in which the experience and knowledge of the surgeon plays a major role. As part of a CAD-based surgery planning, haptic interaction using 3D virtual models of the mandibula and maxilla, haptic feedback can make planning and surgery much more efficient. Haptic devices bridge the gap between the virtual environment and the physical world. An important step in such haptics based workflow is the collision detection between the two models at an update frequency of at least 1000 Hz. In this paper the possibility of the Implicit Sphere Tree algorithm as a collision detection algorithm tailored for this specific application is presented. © 2018 IEEE.

Objective: to assess the classification capability dealing with CT images, by means of Decision Tree classifier. Methods: the CT images were provided by the hospital was used as the data source. In this study, normal liver, Single cystic hepatic hydatid and Polycystic hepatic hydatid CT images were selected, each 200 pieces. Then the texture features were extracted by gray gradient co-occurrence matrix(GGCM) and gray scale histogram. At last, Decision tree classifier were used for classification, which aimed to verify Which feature is more suitable for decision tree classification, and Parameter estimation is used to evaluate the classifier model. Results: For normal liver, Single cystic hepatic hydatid and Polycystic hepatic hydatid, the classification accuracy of gray level co-occurrence matrix was 71%, 69% and 69%, respectively. the classification accuracy of gray scale histogram was 74%, 63.5% and 69%. the classification accuracy of comprehensive features was 75%, 70.5% and 80.5%. Conclusion: The classification accuracy of comprehensive feature is 11.5% higher than that of single features, which are more suitable for the classification of polycystic hepatic hydatid images. This algorithm can provide reference for the classification of CT images.

Aiming at the needs of applications of home-based care for the aged and communities, this paper presents a seven-lead electrocardiograph (ECG) monitoring system based on Wi-Fi short-range wireless transmission technology. The system mainly consists of two parts: the seven-lead ECG monitoring device and the ECG monitoring platform. The Seven-lead ECG monitoring device mainly consists of the ECG pre-processing module, integrated analog front end, the micro-controller, the Wi-Fi wireless transmission module and the power module. This system has the advantages of miniaturization, low power consumption and high performance. The ECG monitoring system uses Wi-Fi wireless transmission technology to send the ECG data of monitored by the seven-lead ECG monitoring device to the ECG monitoring platform of the monitoring center for real-time display of ECG waveforms. Doctors can obtain the health status of the patients who recuperates at home or the aged of community by the community ECG monitoring system and which can also remind the aged of abnormal ECG signals in time to go for a further physical examination for reducing the sudden death rate of the cardiovascular disease. © 2018 IEEE.

Conflagration is disaster that strongly influence environmental ecology and lives. In building, sensors are sufficient to support notification and evacuation. In contrast, the outdoor fire notification is supported via image fire detection. For wildfire notification and assistance in rescue, many researches extract fire characteristic from digital image to detect fire. However, the false alarm of detection system happens when it find the little flame can be extinguished itself with time. In case of false alarm often happens, the rescuer may neglect it and lose the first opportunity to rescue in mission. In this paper, we propose a system that combine deep learning and hidden markov model (HMM) in order to reduce frequency of false alarm. Our proposed system defines the status transformation of images/frames. Afterwards, the relationship of status transition is employed to notification classes. As experimental result, the fire detection rate of all deep learning architectures can achieve more than 96%. And our proposed system can also reduce up to 88.54% false alarm rate to decrease the waste of emergency manpower effectively.

Diabetic retinopathy [1] is one of the major implications of diabetes which not only changes the color of blood vessels but also weakened or blurred or wrenched the power of vision and these results blindness. Microaneurysm localization is very essential at early stage so that it could not turn in Diabetic Retinopathy. The fundus images are extensively used for the diagnosis as well as for the treatment of all possible types of eye diseases. Proper localization of microaneurysm is a main solution to prevent from the diabetic retinopathy. However, this screening takes a lot of time, lot of technical persons as well as the proper involvement of doctors. Hence, the need of automated test is widely used now-a-days for the fast and accurate detection. Here this work is done using Bi-dimensional Statistical Empirical Mode Decomposition [2], [3], [12], which not only is a filtering procedure but also it decomposes an image into 2D Intrinsic Mode Functions. The images are first taken in green channel from where the BSEMD is applied on DRIVE database [4]. BSEMD makes the images more smooth and noise free and increases the clarity. This paper applies a decomposition based algorithm based on digital signal processing and image processing to precise diagnose the diabetic retinopathy from images of retina. The result shows its upliftment in terms of proper localization.

This paper presents a novel image dehazing method based upon scene depth segmentation and the open dark channel model. After analysis of the fog-day imaging model and the nature of the captured image fog distribution in the distant and near-field regions, the original image is divided into two areas, namely, the near and the far field. Subsequently, the transmittance in the far field is corrected further. Furthermore, the method uses an open-dark channel model and guided filtering to restore the image twice, so that the deblurred image boundary transition is more natural leading to the avoidance of the halo artifacts. The experimental results show that the proposed method recovers the clear fog shooting images better, the visual effects are significantly improved, and it has a wide domain of application.

This paper deals with the problematic of eye tonometer measurements, more specifically the missing universal, independent standard for their routine checks and calibration. The paper furthermore presents the principles and initial results of newly developed standard that has the potential to be used for any non-contact eye tonometer device. The initial test measurements have shown a consistency of the generated pressure with increased divergence measured by tow selected contact and non-contact tonometers.

image denoising and selective smoothing are important research problems in the area of image processing and computer vision. Partial differential equation (PDE) model filters were widely utilized due to their robust anisotropic diffusion properties that preserve edges. Spatial regularization via Gaussian low-pass filtering is used in well posed anisotropic diffusion PDE for image restoration that involves a crucial scale parameter. In this work, we provide an appropriate scale selection approach that obtains improved selective smoothing with nonlinear diffusion. Experimental results indicate the promise of such a strategy on a variety of synthetic and real noisy images. Further, compared to other diffusion PDE models the proposed technique improves the quality of final denoised images in terms of higher peak signal to noise ratio and structural similarity. © 2018 IEEE.

image enhancement is an important topic in image processing and image smoothing is an important content in the field of image enhancement. In this paper, we propose an image smoothing method based on adaptive anisotropic thermal diffusion equation. Based on the analysis of anisotropic thermal diffusion equation, the adaptive calculation methods of two parameters in the equation are presented. The experiment results show that the adaptive image smoothing algorithm can effectively preserve the details of the image while reducing noise.
