Cauchy estimator has been successfully applied to the statistical learning owing to its unique distribution characteristics and robustness to outliers. In this paper, Cauchy loss function is utilized to update the weight of filter, generating a novel robust least Cauchy error (LCE) algorithm and its kernel extension (KLCE). The proposed filter algorithms are effective for the impulsive non-Gaussian noises (e.g.,α-stable noise), and can achieve a fine accuracy for filter. Simulations on the system identification and nonlinear channel equalization confirm that the proposed filters based on Cauchy cost function show strong robustness against large outliers.

This paper describes a method of image sharpness evaluation while taking into account the photographer's aesthetic intention. The main idea is utilizing a visual importance map that estimates the weight of each pixel to guild evaluating image sharpness. The visual importance map is computed automatically with a saliency detection algorithm based on global color contrast. Our technique allows to treat pixels in an image differently based on their content, such that the perceptually important features and photograph's subjective intention can be reflected in the result. A low noise preamplifier used for biomedicalsignal acquisition is presented in the paper. A "T-type feedback" operational amplifier topology structure is used here based on the traditional "AC coupling-capacitor feedback". The resulting amplifier, built in SMIC 0.18um standard CMOS process, processes signals from 0.2/25Hz to 10 kHz with an input-referred noise of 0.96uVrms and a power dissipation of 18.54uW while occupying 0.065mm~2 of chip area. The simulation results show that, the presented preamplifier has proper gain and bandwidth, small input-referred noise and chip area consumption. It is suitable for the applications in low power, low noise and high integration circuits used for biomedicalsignal acquisition.

To solve this problem, the protein functional domain information is applied in this method. For accurately identify the cleavage sites along the sequence, a subset of potential cleavage sites was firstly screened out by statistical machine learning rules, and then the final unique site was picked out according to its evolution conservation score. In unconstrained scenes, the change of expression and pose may lead to mismatching of the human face and ear images, and the recognition rate may also decrease. A method fusing depth and texture information is proposed to deal with the problem. We employ different recognition strategies based on the different characteristics of the spherical depth map and the spherical texture map. The learning to rank approach is applied to select the key points of high repeatability and stability. An improved SIFT method and a LBP-like algorithm are applied in the following process. Sparse representation is used for recognition and then Bayesian decision-level fusion for the improvement of final results. And the experiments prove the effectiveness of our approach evaluated on MARS map.

A method of measuring the CW pulse signal phase difference is proposed, which is able to measure the phase difference between the difference frequency wave of parametric array and the small amplitude wave with the same frequency. The method is verified by simulation experiment. The factors influencing the measurement results ware discussed, such as the sampling rate, noise and sensor position. Different from traditional algorithms, the material modeling method utilizing luma Y in YUV color space has been developed in this paper. Our method, which interactively acquires material appearance from a single image, includes four main steps: removing highlight, recovering normal based on luma Y, estimating diffuse coefficient, setting glossiness and specular coefficient interactively. In the paper, we present a method for evaluating the quality of tongue images in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). First, we preprocess the original images to segment the tongue images. Second, geometric features, texture features and spectral entropy features and spatial entropy features based on Spatial-Spectral Entropy-based Quality (SSEQ) index of tongue images are extracted respectively to form 17 dimensional feature vector for the tongue image quality assessment. Finally, Support vector machine (SVM) model is used to classify the samples. The experimental result shows that our method has a better effect on the tongue image quality assessment for the objectification of tongue diagnosis.

The inter-digit coordination during precision grip was assessed using a recurrence-based phase synchronization (PS) analysis in this study. The PS across the normal forces of the thumb and index finger with respect to the contact surface serve as a critical dynamical strategy underlying precision grip. When both the thumb and index finger had reduced tactile sensitivity, the PS of Fz increased compared to the conditions with normal digit tactile sensation. This result suggested a compensatory mechanism relying more on the feedforward control with reduced tactile sensory information. The PS analysis would shed light on the mechanisms of digit-force coordination and facilitate assessment of sensorimotor function in patients suffered from neuropathies.
