images captured in foggy weather often suffer from bad visibility, because of bad atmospheric visibility. The existence of particles, dust and water impurities always fade the color and lead to a bad contrast of the observed objects. And then, we will feel indistinct by our eyes. We introduce a novel algorithm of single image that based on hybrid filter in this paper. The algorithm is based on an advanced median filter, and combined with average filter. The visibility of photos has been greatly improved by use of iteration. Experimental results on a variety of haze images demonstrate the effectiveness of the advanced method, which contains the fast speed of Median filter and also gets more distinct in details compared with other algorithms. The main advantage of the proposed algorithm compared with others is its speed. This speed allows visibility restoration to be applied for the first time within real-time processing applications such as sign, lane-marking and obstacle detection.

This paper is dedicated to the research of head detection method based on binocular stereo vision. In the first stage, we correct the acquired images, and in the second stage calculate the target parallax in binocular vision. According to the feature of the head contour, different depth distribution of person and the scene in depth map by binocular stereo image, the relationship between head's geometric features and depth information can be obtained. And then, the method of depth stratification to obtain the depth layers of head information can be used. The second part is to regard the geometric features of contour as the decision condition of round head, and then combined with the stereo matching algorithms of binocular vision to recognize the target under the binocular vision. Finally, whether the contour is the head or not can be distinguished. Experimental results show that the algorithm can be adapted to detect the head effectively in complex situation and has high accuracy.

Forest fire detection based on the satellite image is an important method for fire warning. In the early stage of the forest fire, smoke is a key feature to detect. But both the smoke and cloud are mist shape, which has similar shape. For most smoke satellite image, The smoke is in the shape of a strip, for this feature, an method using edge detection to recognize smoke and cloud has been proposed. This algorithm detect the region covered with mist, and recognize the shape of the mist area using edge detection, to effectively recognize cloud and smoke. More than 30 images with cloud and strip smoke are used to test this method show the method can effectively detect strip smoke.

In this paper, we propose a novel video matting approach based on motion estimation. For a given video sequence, we first select some keyframes according to a dynamic rule. Then we segment keyframes into foreground and background using grabcut and automatically propagate these segmentations to the whole video sequence. Finally, we apply guided filter to every frame and its segmentation to get a fine alpha matte sequence. Instead of using optical flow to propagate segmentations, we adopt a motion estimation method which uses a fast block matching algorithm. Experiment results on various video sequences show that our approach not only achieves faster speed in segmentation propagation process but also improves the matting quality compared with methods using optical flow.

This paper presents a two-step restoration algorithm for impulse noise detection and removal. In the detection step, the pixel which is most likely corrupted by noise is detected according to its gray values. In the removal step, the proposed algorithm adaptively alters the filtering window size depending on the noise density. For a noisy pixel, if there exist one or more noise-free pixels in its window, the spatial correlation-based weighted mean filter will be applied to it by using only noise-free pixels. Otherwise, we use the median filter to correct the detection errors and remove noise. Naturally, the noise-free pixels are retained. Experimental results show that compared with the other filters, our algorithm can provide better performances in both quantitatively and visually.

A novel image reconstruction method based on exponent-based anisotropic variational partial differential equation (PDE) for digital tomosynthesis (DT) is proposed. An exponent map instead of fixed values 1 or 2 is used as the order of total variation (TV), which can balance staircase artifact and over smoothing. The smoothed structure tensor (SST) capable of characterizing of different image features is used to build the exponent map, which has good ability of noise suppressing as well as detail preserving. Numerical experiment demonstrates that our method achieves better performance in many aspects (such as noise level, structure similarity) than existing methods, including adaptive steepest descent-projection onto convex sets (ASD-POCS) and selective diffusion regularized simultaneous algebraic reconstruction technique (SART).

As the world enters the information age, the need for identity verification becomes more and more urgent. Therefore, fingerprint identification technology is widely used in the field of personal authentication. With the efforts of researchers, the algorithms of fingerprint recognition have currently made great progress. However, the authentication of low quality fingerprint still needs further improvement. Aiming at imperfect fingerprints, we propose an improved damaged fingerprint recognition algorithm by feature points, based on Convolution Neural Network (CNN) of Deep Learning. Finally, the recognition rate based on Deep Learning is compared with the fingerprint identification algorithm based on Kernel Principal Component Analysis (KPCA) and k-Nearest Neighbor (KNN). Experiments' results show that fingerprint recognition based on Deep Learning has a higher recognition rate.

Superpixel segmentation refers to represent an image by small regions composed of pixels with the similar characteristics, which can carry more perceptual and semantic meaning than their simple pixel grid counterparts. Therefore, it is very important to distribute superpixels with different size over an image for describing image details. In this paper, a new superpixel generation method based on an error-controlled strategy is put forward. At first, we use the SLIC method as a pretreatment step to obtain a preliminary segmentation image. After that, we set two thresholds to iteratively perform the region merging and mean pooling operations. One of the thresholds is used as the condition of merging in two superpixels. The other is used to control the convergence of the whole image error. According to the experimental results, our algorithm can fulfill a comparable trade-off between the number of superpixels and image details representation. In addition to the effective distribution of superpixels, our method can keep the boundary of the main object in the image.

With the in-depth study of microscopic objects, traditional optical microscopes no longer suffice for scientific researches in some occasions because of its limited depth of the imaging device. In this paper, we propose a new method of four-dimensional image information processing to realize four-dimensional reconstruction for smaller objects. This new method combines the 3D reconstruction method and hyperspectral imaging technology together, which realizes 4D information reconstruction of 3D model and its corresponding spectral data. In order to verify this method, a multidimensional micro imaging system is proposed. In the system, the hardware is expanded, the multidimensional image acquisition and multi-dimensional data processing is realized. The experiment results show that the new method and the proposed system have satisfied performance on four-dimensional reconstruction for smaller objects.

Nowadays the estimation of crowd density and people counting is a great focus under public security affairs in surveillance. A scheme for crowd counting estimation based on linear regression function is proposed in this paper. In the proposed scheme, the Light Effect Suppression Model (LESM), which effectively reduces the sensitivity to illumination change, is applied to extract the foreground. Besides the number of foreground pixels, a novel feature called Oriented Inner Edges (OIEs) is proposed in this paper to deal with the problem of occlusion. Moreover, a new method of perspective normalization is applied during the feature extraction procedure to reduce the deviation caused by perspective distortion to the greatest extent. The final experimental results show that the proposed scheme is effective and feasible.
