Wireless mobile networks are widely used during large catastrophes such as earthquakes and floods where robust networking systems are indispensable to protect human lives. The objective of this paper is to present a self-adaptive emergency call protocol that allows keeping potential victims connected to the core network through the available functional stations, called gNBs in 5G, when a fraction of gNBs in a network area are fully destructed with no access to other gNBs or the core network due to the disaster. Nowadays, the density of mobile devices and progress in outband device to device (D2D) communication provide the framework for the extension of both mobile and network coverage. We propose a novel, 3GPP compatible and completely distributed protocol called M-HELP for emergency call service for 4G/5G enabled mobile networks. We assess M-HELP efficiency under various scenarios representing different degrees of network destruction and different emergency call conditions. The tests demonstrate the significant performance of M-HELP in terms of transmission success rate, energy management, latency and control traffic load.

As one of the fastest-growing applications in the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network, the development of blockchain technology is accompanied by different attacks. Those include whitewashing, free-riding, and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, particularly because of features such as anonymity, distributed, permissionless in the blockchain network. One popular of them is spam transactions. Although the blockchain protocol requires each node to verify all received transactions, many nodes choose to forward transactions without verification to conserve their computational power, as there is no punishment for such a shirking. And it makes the blockchain vulnerable to the spreading of spam transactions over the network and creates extra burdens for all nodes in the network. We propose a reputation mechanism for the blockchain system to tackle this problem: Each node will locally compute reputations of its neighbors, and decide the probability to verify a received transaction based on the reputation value of the transaction sender. In turn, its neighbors will have an incentive to conduct verification to keep its reputation high. Subsequently, spam transactions can be blocked before reaching the miners. We have conducted a series of simulations, which clearly demonstrate the advantage of our reputation mechanism.

Shannon showed that to achieve perfect secrecy in point-to-point communication, the message rate cannot exceed the shared secret key rate giving rise to the simple one-time pad encryption scheme. In this paper, we extend this work from point-to-point to networks. We consider a connected network with pairwise communication between the nodes. We assume that each node is provided with a certain amount of secret bits before communication commences. An eavesdropper with unlimited computing power has access to all communication and can hack a subset of the nodes not known to the rest of the nodes. We investigate the limits on information-theoretic secure communication for this network. We establish a tradeoff between the secure channel rate (for a node pair) and the secure network rate (sum over all node pair rates) and show that perfect secrecy can be achieved if and only if the sum rate of any subset of unhacked channels does not exceed the shared unhacked-secret-bit rate of these channels. We also propose two practical and efficient schemes that achieve a good balance of network and channel rates with perfect secrecy guarantee. This work has a wide range of potential applications for which perfect secrecy is desired, such as cyber-physical systems, distributed-control systems, and ad-hoc networks.

With the development of science and technology, the power industry has rapidly transformed into informationization, automation, and intelligent. Information flows, business flows, and power flows are intertwined. Concomitantly, the amount of data generated by each link of the power grid has grown exponentially, and the data types have also shifted from relatively simple structured data to unstructured data. A large variety of structured data, semi-structured data, and unstructured data in the power grid constitute power big data. This paper is aimed at power big data, in-depth analysis of a variety of power data characteristics, based on distributed file systems, the development of power big data storage platform. IoT data marketplaces are being developed to help cities and communities create large scale IoT applications. Such data marketplaces let the IoT device owners sell their data to the application developers. Following this application development model, the application developers need not deploy their own IoT devices when developing IoT applications; instead, they can buy data from a data marketplace. In a marketplace-based IoT application, the application developers are making critical business and operation decisions using the data produced by seller's IoT devices. Under these circumstances, it is crucial to verify and validate the security of IoT *** this paper, we assess the security of IoT data marketplaces. In particular, we discuss what kind of vulnerabilities exist in IoT data marketplaces using the well-known STRIDE model, and present a security assessment and certification framework for IoT data marketplaces to help the device owners to examine the security vulnerabilities of their devices. Most importantly, our solution certifies the IoT devices when they connect to the data marketplace, which helps the application developers to make an informed decision when buying and consuming data from a data marketplace. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, we have developed a proof-of-concept using I3 (Intelligent IoT Integrator), which is an open-source IoT data marketplace developed at the University of Southern California, and IoTcube, which is a vulnerability detection toolkit developed by researchers at Korea University. Through this work, we show that it is possible to increase the reliability of a IoT data marketplace while not damaging the convenience of the users.

Cloud computing is increasingly implemented by a growing number of organizations in recent years. Their critical business applications are deployed in distributed cloud data centers (CDCs) for fast response and low cost. The ever-increasing consumption of energy makes it highly important to schedule tasks efficiently in CDCs. In addition, many factors in CDCs, e.g., the wind and solar energy and prices of power grid have spatial differences. It becomes a challenging problem of how to achieve the energy cost minimization for CDCs in such a market. This work applies a G/G/1 queuing system to evaluate the optimization of servers in each CDC. Furthermore, a single-objective constrained optimization problem is given and addressed by a proposed Simulated-annealing-based Bees Algorithm to yield a close-to-optimal solution. Based on it, a Fine-grained Task Scheduling (FTS) algorithm is designed to minimize the energy cost of CDCs by intelligently scheduling heterogeneous tasks among distributed CDCs. In addition, it also determines running speeds of servers and the number of switched-on servers in each CDC while strictly meeting tasks' delay bounds. Realistic data-driven results demonstrate that FTS outperforms its typical benchmark scheduling peers in terms of energy cost and throughput.

With the development of cloud computing, more and more enterprises are building their own cluster to deploy various types of distributed systems on the public cloud to satisfy their growing business need. In the process of migrating the business to the cloud, the enterprise faces two problems. The one is that the rental of virtual machines on the public cloud is a complicated process. Users need to understand and select a variety of parameters while the parameters of different public clouds are not the same. The other is that deployment and scale-out of distributed systems remain complex for inexperienced users. To address the above problem, this paper designs and implements a method for automatically deploying and scaling out Docklet, which is a typical distributed system, on the cloud from scratch. Finally, we present several examples to show the effectiveness.

The big data is characterized by challenges on variety, volumes, velocity etc. Recent advocate of data cube in the Earth observation (EO) domain has shown great promise to provide analysis ready data for remote sensing applications. It is possible to develop a geospatial big data infrastructure layered on the data cube by incorporating a uniform analysis-ready multidimensional data structure and exploiting its usage in connecting EO data analytics and OLAP (Online Analytical Processing), thus enabling a multi-source geospatial data cube accommodating both EO and location-based social-economic data. The creation of such a geospatial data cube, named GeoCube, needs special attentions from geospatial perspective including the formalization of spatio-temporal dimensions, tiling along these dimensions for high performance geoprocessing, and processing of geospatial/EO queries against these dimensions. This will help develop a new framework for big geospatial data analytics while at the time keeping connections to the data cube in the business intelligence domain. The paper will highlight these issues and identify a research agenda for developing such a geospatial data cube.

This demonstration presents a data-driven situation-specific site selection system (called D4S for short) for users who are eager to create a business (hotel, hot-pot restaurant, etc.). Given a business and some related parameters, it selects sites that may gain profits for this business. Unlike existing works, D4S uses the meaning of prevalent co-location patterns discovered from spatial data sets to learn the "symbiotic" relationships in business, which can help to select reliable sites. Furthermore, ontologies are used in order to classify the whole spatial data according to the semantic of businesses, which makes the results more accurate. The demonstration shows the high reliability of the result sites selected by D4S.
