The watershed algorithm is widely used in the field of the image segmentation, which can overcome the difficulty of image analysis caused by cell overlap. However, the result of the image segmentation with the watershed algorithm were often over-segmentated. To solve this problem, the k-medoids clustering algorithm was introduced to simplify the gradient image, which is preprocessed from the original image. The edge information of the original image was obtained by the Canny edge detection operator, and the target region template was calculated by the optimized initial segmentation. Then, the segmentation result was obtained. The improved algorithm was evaluated by the segmentation accuracy compared with the professional segmented pathology image. The results show that the improved watershed algorithm proposed in this paper has a specific advantage in alleviating the phenomenon of over-segmentation, and the target area appears more completely.

Multi-step traffic flow prediction extends short-term single-step prediction to long-term prediction, which is more significant in many basic application in intelligent transportation systems, such as traffic planning. A main problem of multi-step prediction is that the error accumulation as steps increase, resulting in prediction performance degradation. In this work, combining recursive and multi-output strategies, we proposed a deep learning model, named MARNN, for multi-step traffic flow prediction. Specifically, we jointly consider recurrent neural network as dynamic neural network for simulating the dynamic characteristics in traffic time series as recursive strategy does and multi-output strategy for decreasing the accumulated error as step increases. In addition, we introduce attention mechanism for adaptively seeking correlated important information among traffic time series to improve prediction performance. The experiments on real traffic data show the advantages of MARNN model over other four baseline models, demonstrating the potential and promising capability of the proposed model on multi-step traffic flow prediction.

The available bandwidth measurement is of great significance for the optimization of media service transmission and quality of experience. Bandwidth measurement is divided into active measurement and passive measurement according to the measurement mode. Currently, the available bandwidth measurement techniques are generally based on the Probe Gap Model or Probe Rate Model. The Probe Rate Model which has a great impact on the network is less considered. The shortcoming of Probe Gap Model is it needs to know bottleneck bandwidth first and a Kalman Filter can be used to solve this problem. The Kalman filter has the characteristics of being able to effectively filter out the noise by combining the predicted value and the measured value. Firstly, the exact value of the bottleneck bandwidth is calculated, and then the Probe Gap Model is applied. Finally, real-time measurement is implemented in the Linux environment and analysis of the experiment shows that the results are more accurate.

Recent surveys about autonomous vehicles show that the public is concerned about the safety consequences of system or equipment failures and the vehicles' reactions to unexpected situations. We believe that informing about the technology and quality, e.g., safety and reliability, of autonomous vehicles is paramount to improving public expectations, perception and acceptance. In this paper, we report on the design of an interactive exhibit to illustrate (1) basic technologies employed in autonomous vehicles, i.e., sensors and object classification; and (2) basic principles for ensuring their quality, i.e., employing software testing and simulations. We subsequently report on a public engagement event involving this exhibit at the Royal Society Summer science Exhibition 2019 in the exhibit titled "Trusted Autonomous Vehicles". We describe the process of designing and developing the artefacts used in our exhibit, the theoretical background associated to them, the design of our stand, and the lessons learned. The activities and findings of this study can be used by other educators and researchers interested in promoting trust in autonomous vehicles among the general public.

With the development of vehicle network services and related software, the dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) frequency band is not sufficient to carry the increased wireless service demand in the in-vehicle network. The large television spectrum (i.e., the TV white space spectrum) issued by the US Federal Communications Commission for cognitive access will be used to provide additional bandwidth to the in-vehicle network, and the effective channel allocation scheme for TV White Space (TVWS) has become our goal. In this paper, we design a channel allocation scheme based on the Hungarian algorithm. Our main goal is to increase network throughput while minimizing network latency. We present simulation schemes and numerical evaluations to illustrate the desired performance of the proposed channel allocation scheme.

This paper designs and develops an Environmental Data News Generation (EDNG) system of Internet of things data acquisition and generation that can automatically collect data such as environmental temperature, humidity and light intensity in a region and automate broadcast by data news for healthcare. The system is based on digital data collection, Internet of things, embedded development and other technologies. Through designing hardware and software such as the design of networking data acquisition devices, the establishment of cloud forwarding servers, the development of terminal WeChat mini-programs and data news acquisition systems, the problem of automatic data collection, fusion generation and accurate and efficient reporting of regional environmental data news is solved. At the same time, through the research of regional environmental data news gathering and generation technology, the functions of automation of environmental data collection and real evolution of news broadcast were realized. The accuracy of data acquisition and the speed of news reporting are improved, and an effective strategy is provided for the automatic generation of other data news.

This paper focuses on the processing requirements of time series data in industrial and IoT fields. The study of time series data processing in industry is continued for a long time, and a mature solution of using real-time/ historian database has been formed. However, with the new demand of Industrial Internet, old architectures are unable to fully support requirements (i.e., large amount and real-time analysis of industrial data). Meanwhile, a new architecture for processing real-time data in mobile Internet started to mature, this forms a solution called time-series database, which provides lots of new advantages. When we try to use a new technology to replace an old one, many aspects should be considered. This paper focuses on these challenges, starting with the demands of the industry, to analyze how to solve traditional problems with new technologies. This paper also analyzes the development trend of time series data processing and puts forward some general requirements for the application of new technology in the field of Industrial Internet, which lays a theoretical foundation for the application and development of basic technologies of Industrial Internet.

The high sophistication of IT services, more and more often operated over distributed hybrid Cloud environments, makes it extremely difficult to evaluate the impact of changes at the business level over service architecture before deploying them. The performance assessment of possible alternative deployments calls for decision support tools to enable what-if scenario analysis, which requires also to adopt realistic Cloud network models, currently not available. To fill that gap, this paper illustrates the potential of our business-Driven Management as a Service Plus (BDMaaS+) support that eases management operations in the above context, and presents a thorough experimental evaluation of our solution. Collected results demonstrate how a service provider can leverage BDMaaS+ to explore the potential of high-level business Service Level Agreement (SLA) changes and data center additions to optimize the performance of an enterprise class IT service deployed, in a realistic hybrid Cloud environment, before (re-)enacting them.

Both coverage and connectivity are important problems in wireless sensor network, as more and more non-orientation sensors are continuously added in to the region of interest, the size of covered component and connected component are increased, at some point, the network can achieve an entire coverage and a full connectivity, then the network percolates. In this paper, we calculate the critical density in non-orientation directional sensor network in which the orientations of the sensors are random and the sensors are deployed according to Poisson point process. We propose an approach to compute the critical density in such network, a collaborating path is proposed with the sum of field-of-view angles of two collaborating sensors being π. Then a correlated model of non-orientation directional sensing sectors for percolation is proposed to solve the coverage and connectivity problems together. The numerical simulations confirm that percolation occurs on the estimated critical densities.

Multiple Mode SAR Raw Data Simulation and Parallel Acceleration for Gaofen-3 Mission

Gaofen-3 is China's first meter-level multipolarization synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite with 12 imaging modes for the scientific and commercial applications. In order to evaluate the imaging performance of these modes, the multiple mode SAR raw data simulation is highly demanded. In the paper, the multiple mode SAR simulation framework will be briefly introduced to expose how the raw data simulation guarantees the development of Gaofen-3 and its ground processing system. As an engineering simulation, the complex working modes and practical evaluation requirements of Gaofen-3 mission put forward to the higher demand for simulation simplification and data input/output (I/O) efficiency. To meet the requirements, two improvements have been proposed. First, the stripmap mode based multiple mode decomposition method is introduced to make a solid and simplified system simulation structure. Second, the cloud computing and graphics processing unit (GPU) are integrated to simulate the practical huge volume raw data, resulting in improved calculation and data I/O efficiency. The experimental results of sliding spotlight imaging prove the effectiveness of the Gaofen-3 mission simulation framework and the decomposition idea. The results for efficiency assessment show that the GPU cloud method greatly improves the computing power of a 16-core CPU parallel method about 40x speedup and the data throughput with the Hadoop distributed file system. These results prove that the simulation system has the merits of coping with multiple modes and huge volume raw data simulation and can be extended to the future space-borne SAR simulation.
