Automatic cell nuclei detection is a real challenge in medical imagery. The Marked Point Process (MPP) is one of the most promising scalable and paralellizable method. To handle large histopathology images, the algorithm has to be distributed. A new parallelization paradigm called Ordered Read-Write Locks (ORWL) is presented as a possible solution for solving some of the unwanted side effects of the distribution, namely an imprecision of the results on the internal boundaries of partitioned images. This solution extends a parallel version of MPP that has reached good speedups on GPU cards, but was not scaling to complete images as they appear in practical data. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper performed multidisciplinary design optimization(MDO) of an AUV hull to minimize the energy consumption for *** hull is decomposed into two disciplines and a multidisciplinary optimization problem is *** design feasible(MDF) architecture is adopted for optimization.A CFD-based analysis framework is proposed for resistance calculation of sample points in the hydrodynamics discipline and then a Kriging surrogate model is *** optimal design of AUV hull is obtained and the computational cost is quite low with few high-fidelity CFD simulations.

With the graph data scale constantly expanding, the personal computer has brought in severe challenge for the traditional graph partitioning because of its limited memory capacity. The streaming model has been applied in graph partitioning in recent years because it is more efficient than offline partitioning. However, the cache storage structure of original streaming method is inefficient for searching operations on the one hand, on the other hand, the efficiency gradually is reduced with the number of vertices which have been allocated increased because there is no space left for storing more in memory. A caching strategy for streaming algorithm is put forward in this paper including efficient cache storage structure, which uses the vertex and its neighbors' subset information as basic entry. The cache management module manages cache content. Our method is effective on the condition whether it has limitation to cache capacity or not. By using our cache strategy, it only takes about 25 minutes for partitioning twitter-2010 that have 1.4 billion edges while the original streaming method needs 42 minutes, As can prove the effectiveness and superiority of our method.

Chiastic structure is a figure of speech technique which displays symmetric structure of textual units. It is mainly used to convey an important point of speech or writing to the audience effectively. Hence, when it can be discovered computationally, it can add additional value to the understanding of the salient points of the input text. In this paper, we present an efficient linear-time algorithm based on search space reduction and the principle of locality to detect chiastic structures from textual data. We provide a complexity analysis of the algorithm. We also show the promising utility of the algorithm as well as challenges it presents. © 2016 IEEE.

GPUs have been widely used in modern datacenters to accelerate emerging services such as Graph Processing, Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA), and Deep Learning. However, current GPUs have very limited support for sharing. They are shared in a time-multiplexed manner in datacenters, which leads to low throughput. Previous studies on GPU kernel scheduling either target for fairness or only share GPUs statically, which cannot handle dynamically arriving kernels. Recent work has proposed hardware preemption mechanism for GPUs, enabling dynamic sharing. Exploiting this mechanism, we propose a preemption-aware kernel scheduling strategy for GPUs. Our strategy improves the throughput by running complementary kernels together. Furthermore, our strategy decides whether to preempt running kernels by weighing the performance benefit and overhead of the preemption with analytic models when new kernels arrive. Evaluation results show that our strategy improves the throughput by 20.1% over sequential execution, and 11.5% over a FCFS strategy.

A systematic synthesis method to generate transconductance filters using nodal admittance matrix (NAM) expansion is proposed. The obtained circuits with two input voltage terminals and three output currents employing only two grounded capacitors and three resistors can be used to realize the transconductance-mode universal filter. The synthesized filters enjoy the properties of orthogonal controllability between pole frequency and quality factor, low active and passive sensitivities and cascadability. The workability of the synthesized filter is verified by simulations to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed method. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper is about diagrammatic representations and their role in the process of learning. It considers the problem that learning mathematical objects can be only conceptual learning, and, on the other hand, any activity on mathematical objects is made possible merely by means of semiotic representations. This is an important problem, since inability to build direct access to mathematical objects except through a semiotic representation leads to confusion. An approach that contributes to solving this problem, for some mathematical concepts, is a unifying diagrammatic representation that depicts all types of mental and other objects. This exploratory study suggests the viability of the representation in explicitly emphasizing abstract object features. © 2016 IEEE.

The exponential growth of video traffic on the Internet calls for the deployment of network management strategies to enhance the quality experienced by the end-users (Quality of Experience - QoE). In this paper, we focus on admission control, in particular we survey two of the main Admission Control (AC) solutions, and we compare their efficiency and QoE-awareness when making admission decisions. We evaluate the solutions' performance by simulation, and compare them to the ideal QoE-based AC. The results show that only one of the investigated solutions can lead to satisfying decisions if it is properly tuned. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper proposes an indoor positioning system based on the iBeacon framework. The proposed positioning scheme is a path loss method which uses the coordinate of transmitters in estimating the receiver's coordinate. To effectively reduce the measurement error due to reflected waves, we introduce a technique to represent the region at which the receiver is likely to exist by using the superposition of several Gaussian functions. The performance of the proposed scheme is experimentally evaluated. The result of experiments indicates that the proposed scheme reduces the estimation error of conventional schemes by 16.5% and effectively bounds the variance of estimation error. In addition, the computation time required for the positioning is less than 20 [ms], which implies that it can be used as a part of indoor location-aware applications. © 2016 IEEE.

BUGs algorithms are navigation algorithms that have been designed to seek of a target in a plane that contains obstacles. Many new navigation algorithms have been inspired from them and their applications can be found in autonomous mobile robots, e.g., self driving vehicles. These algorithms are inspired from insects and are comparable to the motion of ants, which yields motion strategies for the robot that guarantees the elusive target will be detected, if such strategies exist. However, these algorithms have not been formally verified using existing formal verification tools. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to apply model checking for verifying the correctness of BUGs algorithms and draw conclusions for future uses of formal methods in the design and model checking of navigation algorithms. © 2016 IEEE.
