In the modern data centers based on virtualization, virtual machine assignment (VMA) is the primary research topic to efficiently schedule the cloud resources. It has been proved that the problem of VMA to minimize the maximum access latency is of NP-hard. Most existing works focus on how to assign the virtual machines to the data nodes, but few works are reported on fault-tolerant techniques that is indispensable for the security and reliability of the data center network. This paper presents fault-tolerant algorithms to minimize the maximum data access latency for the problem of VMA with fault virtual machines. The proposed algorithm searches the clique with controllable redundancy in the set of the available virtual machines, and then it selects the machines from the redundant clique and assigns them for the data nodes of the data center network. In the proposed algorithm, the number of redundant virtual machines is controllable. Extensively experimental results show that the maximum access latency is reduced by 10.39%, 5.68%, 9.09%, 5.45% on average, on the popular four network architectures, Tree, VL2, Fat-Tree and BCube, respectively, in comparison to the state-of-the-art of approximation algorithms. For the case of redundancy degree less than 40%, the proposed algorithm can accelerate the assignment for the virtual machines by up to 24% in comparison to the existing algorithm, on the mentioned four popular network architectures.

With the increase in the complexity and number of nodes in large-scale high performance computing (HPC) systems, the probability of applications experiencing failures has increased significantly. As the computational demands of applications that execute on HPC systems increase, projections indicate that applications executing on exascale-sized systems are likely to operate with a mean time between failures (MTBF) of as little as a few minutes. A number of strategies for enabling fault resilience in systems of extreme sizes have been proposed in recent years. However, few studies provide performance comparisons for these resilience techniques. This work provides a comparison of four state-of-the-art HPC resilience techniques that are being considered for use in exascale systems. We explore the behavior of each resilience technique under simulated execution of a diverse set of applications varying in communication behavior and memory use. We examine how each resilience technique behaves as application size scales from what is considered large today through to exascale-sized applications. We further study the performance degradation that a large-scale system experiences from the overhead associated with each resilience technique as well as the application computation needed to continue execution when a failure occurs. Using the results from these analyses, we examine how application performance on exascale systems can be improved by allowing the system to select the optimal resilience technique for use in an application-specific manner, depending upon each application's execution characteristics.

FinFET technology has increasingly been adopted for use within integrated circuits thanks to its superior electrical integrity and scalability. However, most recent studies have concluded that FinFET circuits tend to be more vulnerable to negative bias temperature instability (NBTI) compared to planar MOSFET designs as a result of the self-heating effect. In this paper, we contrarily reveal that under strong NBTI stress from increased temperature, the temperature effect inversion (TEI) in small nanometer FinFET devices significantly improves the circuit performance. From experimental results, at high temperature, the TEI impact dominates the delay degradation due to NBTI causing almost all of the experimental FinFET circuits to run faster. © 2016 IEEE.

The applying of third party libraries is an integral part of many mobile applications. With the rapid development of mobile technologies, there are many free third party libraries for developers to download and use. However, there are a large number of third party libraries which always iterate rapidly, it is hard for developers to find available libraries within them. Several previous studies have proposed approaches to recommend third party libraries, which works in the scenario where a developer knows some required libraries, and needs to find other relevant libraries with limited knowledge. In the paper, to further improve the performance of app library recommendation, we propose an approach which combines collaborative filtering and topic modeling techniques. In the collaborative filtering component, given a new app, our approach recommends libraries by using its similar apps. In the topic modelling component, our approach first extracts the topics from the textual description of mobile apps, and given a new app, our approach recommends libraries based on the libraries used by the apps which has similar topic *** perform experiments on a set of 1,013 apps, and the results show that our approach improves the state-of-the-art by a substantial margin. © 2017 Association for computing Machinery.

In this paper, we provide comparison of language features and runtime systems of commonly used threading parallel programming models for high performance computing, including OpenMP, Intel Cilk Plus, Intel TBB, OpenACC, Nvidia CUDA, OpenCL, C++11 and PThreads. We then report our performance comparison of OpenMP, Cilk Plus and C++11 for data and task parallelism on CPU using benchmarks. The results show that the performance varies with respect to factors such as runtime scheduling strategies, overhead of enabling parallelism and synchronization, load balancing and uniformity of task workload among threads in applications. Our study summarizes and categorizes the latest development of threading programming APIs for supporting existing and emerging computer architectures, and provides tables that compare all features of different APIs. It could be used as a guide for users to choose the APIs for their applications according to their features, interface and performance reported.

The ever-growing proliferation of wireless devices and technologies used for Internet of Things (IoT) applications, such as patient monitoring, military surveillance, and industrial automation and control, has created an increasing need for methods and tools for connectivity prediction, information flow monitoring, and failure analysis to increase the dependability of the wireless network. Indeed, in a safety-critical Industrial IoT (IIoT) setting, such as a smart factory, harsh signal propagation conditions combined with interference from coexisting radio technologies operating in the same frequency band may lead to poor network performance or even application failures despite precautionary measures. Analyzing and troubleshooting such failures on a large scale is often difficult and time-consuming. In this paper, we share our experience in troubleshooting coexistence problems in operational IIoT networks by reporting on examples that show the possible hurdles in carrying out failure analysis. Our experience motivates the need for a userfriendly, automated failure analysis system, and we outline an architecture of such system that allows to observe multiple communication standards and unknown sources of interference. © 2016 IEEE.

Chattering is a fundamental phenomenon that is unique to hybrid systems, due to the complex interaction between discrete dynamics (in the form of discrete transitions) and continuous dynamics (in the form of time). In practice, simulating chattering hybrid systems is challenging in that simulation eectively halts near the chattering time point, as an innite number of discrete transitions would need to be simulated. In this paper, formal conditions are provided for when the simulated models of hybrid systems display chattering behavior, and methods are proposed for avoiding chattering "on the y" in runtime. We utilize dynamical behavior analysis to derive conditions for detecting chattering without enumeration of modes. We also present a new iterative algorithm to allow for solutions to be carried past the chattering point, and we show by a prototypical implementation how to generate the equivalent chattering-free dynamics internally by the simulator in the main simulation loop. The concepts are illustrated with examples throughout the paper. © 2016 IEEE.

Named Data Networking (NDN) is a promising future Internet architecture which retrieves the content using their names. Content names composed of strings separated by '/' are stored in the NDN Forwarding Information Base (FIB) to forward the incoming packets further. To retrieve content through their names poses two main challenges for the NDN FIB: high memory consumption and high lookup time. Therefore, an efficient and scalable data structure is required to store names in FIB. Encoding components in all the names with a unique integer can reduce the memory consumption as well as lookup time. In this paper, we propose a scalable and memory-efficient radix trie based name component encoding scheme, named RaCE, to implement NDN FIB. Our experiment results show that the RaCE scheme is reducing memory consumption by 89.95% and 26.07% compared to the original size of data and NCE [4] scheme for the 29 million dataset, respectively. © 2016 IEEE.

Ontology can specify the concepts and their *** ontology was used as the bridge to map between the source and target artifacts,it can help to solve the keyword matching problem regarding the requirement traceability in the semantic level.A domain ontology recommendation method has been *** this method,the lexical semantic representation list of the dependency syntax types can be produced at first using Stanford ***,the terms as well as their relations can be extracted using the clear algorithm and rule-based matching *** follows,these terms and their relations can be transformed into domain concepts and their relations,obtaining the domain ontology ***,the domain ontology that is suitable for the requirement traceability can be gained through the processes of selection and revision by the domain *** experimental results demonstrate that if the proposed domain ontology was applied to requirement traceability,it can effectively improve the accuracy of the requirement traceability,compared with the vector space model and the requirement traceability method based on HOWNET.
