The demand for computing power in computational electromagnetics (CEM) is continuously increasing. Meanwhile, cooperative engineering is becoming more and more present in daily research and development workflows. Projects are often developed by teams, which interact remotely, and need tighter and tighter connectivity. Grid computing (GC), from the perspective of progress in computer networks, seems a promising way to satisfy both the need of high-performance computing platforms, and the requirements for effective cooperative computing. In this paper, researchers involved in CEM are introduced to grid computing, and to the use of grid computing for CEM. Two real applications are proposed, with a critical discussion on potential benefits and drawbacks with respect to alternative strategies.

The rapid development of computer network has greatly popularized online education. Currently, most online education systems are using a learning platform of three-split screen courseware, in which stream media take up a majority of resources in bandwidth and storage space. Due to more and more students receiving online education, the load of stream media service is getting heavier, so that the traditional centralized architecture and image architecture cannot satisfy the access requirements of a large number of nationwide students. Therefore, a highly practicable stream media application architecture with quick response and high concurrency, reliability, stability, extendability. This paper first discusses the development of online education as well as the problem, then deeply explores the key technology to realize distributed architecture of stream media according to characteristics of online education, with the introduction of P2P and CDN architecture, along with stream media subdivision technology.

Alternating Direction Implicit (ADI) methods have been in use since 1954 for the solution of both parabolic and elliptic partial differential equations. The convergence of these methods can be dramatically accelerated when good estimates of the eigenvalues of the operator are available, However, in the case of computation on parallel computers, the solution of tridiagonal systems imposes an unreasonable overhead. We discuss methods to lower the overhead imposed by the solution of the corresponding tridiagonal systems. The proposed method has the same convergence properties as a standard ADI method, but all of the solves run in approximately the same time as the "fast" direction. Hence, this acts like a "transpose-free" method while still maintaining the smoothing properties of ADI. Algorithms are derived and convergence theory is provided.
