The rapid development of distributed storage technology has attracted growing attention from both industry and academia. Although distributed system has been studied for many years, however, it is widely applied to engineering practice since the rise of cloud computing recently. Cloud storage constructs a storage resource pool with massive common storage devices through networks, which could be allocated to authorized users on demand. In this paper, we present a distributed business-aware storage execution environment towards large-scale applications. Initially, we present the overall of our proposed storage execution environment and different data delivery models according to corresponding business needs. Furthermore, we design a globally shared and cross-regional deployed metadata service to minimize the access delay of metadata. Finally, the approach presented in this paper has been validated to be effective through a series of evaluation experiments and actual use cases.

Real-time collaboration is being offered by plenty of libraries and APIs (Google Drive Real-time API, Microsoft Real-Time Communications API, TogetherJS, ShareJS), rapidly becoming a mainstream option for web-services developers. However, they are offered as centralised services running in a single server, regardless if they are free/open source or proprietary software. After re-engineering Apache Wave (former Google Wave), we can now provide the first decentralised and federated free/ open source alternative. The new API allows to develop new real-time collaborative web applications in both JavaScript and Java environments.

Levaraeine the convergence of Grid and Web services technologies, we anticipate the emergence of new business and scientific computing paradigms that are based on dynamic Virtual Organisations (VO). These VOs span across organisational boundaries and enable the enactment of collaborative processes that integrate services, resources and knowledge in order to perform tasks that the VO partners could not undertake on their own. Such a dynamic and complex structure opens several challenging problems relating to VO security. In this paper, We summarise a novel architecture Supporting Grid-enabled collaboration for the purposes of Application Service Provision. We then focus on the underpinning security architecture that enables the federated management and distributed enforcement of dynamic security perimeters for virtual communities of services, and on resources that span across administrative and enterprise boundaries. We highlight how this architecture, realised in the context of a European research project developing a Grid platform for application serviced provision, addresses the outstanding challenges that underlie the automation of trust and security management in scalable, multi-institutional, and dynamic Virtual Organisations. In high-performance computing, storage is a shared resource and used by all users with many different application requirements and knowledge of storage. Consequently, the optimal storage configuration varies according to the I/O behavior of each application. While system logs are helpful resources in understanding the storage behavior, it is nontrivial for each user to analyze the logs and adjust complex configurations. Even for experienced users, it is difficult to understand the full stack of I/O systems and find the optimal configuration for the specific application. In this work, we analyzed the I/O activities of CORI which is an HPC system in National Energy Research Scientific computing Center (NERSC). The result of our analysis shows that most users do not adjust storage configurations and use the default settings. Also, it shows that only a few applications are executed repeatedly in the HPC environment. Based on this result, we have developed DCA-I/O, a dynamic distributed file system configuration adjustment algorithm, which utilizes system log information and widely adapted rules to adjust storage configurations automatically without any user intervention. DCA-I/) utilizes existing system logs and does not require any modifications in code or an additional library. To demonstrate the effectiveness of DCA-I/O, we have performed experiments using I/O kernels of the real applications in both isolated small-sized Lustre environment and CORI. Our experimental result shows that the use of our scheme can lead to improvements in the performance of INC applications by up to 75% in an isolated environment and 50% in a real HPC environment without user intervention.

Scientific applications built on wide-area distributed systems such as emerging cloud based architectures and the legacy grid computing infrastructure often struggle with user adoption even though they succeed from a systems research perspective. This paper examines the coupling of user-centered design processes with modern distributed systems. Further in this paper, we describe approaches for conceptualizing a product that solves a recognized need: to develop a data gateway to serve the data management and research needs of experimentalists of electron microscopes and similar shared scientific instruments in the context of a research service laboratory. The purpose of the data gateway is to provide secure, controlled access to data generated from a wide range of scientific instruments. From the functional perspective, we focus on the basic processing of raw data that underlies the lab's "business" processes, the movement of data from the laboratory to central access and archival storage points, and the distribution of data to respective authorized users. Through the gateway interface, users will be able to share the instrument data with collaborators or copy it to remote storage servers. Basic pipelines for extracting additional metadata (through a pluggable parser framework) will be enabled. The core contribution described in this paper, building on the aforementioned distributed data management capabilities, is the adoption of user-centered design processes for developing the scientific user interface. We describe the user-centered design methodology for exploring user needs, iteratively testing the design, learning from user experiences, and adapting what we learn to improve design and capabilities. We further conclude that user-centered design is, in turn, best enabled by an adaptable distributed systems framework. business process management (BPM) tools and techniques are used in a large number of commercial institutions for automating flows of products and services within corporate and without. It is not uncommon that business processes are involved with versatile collaboration, complicated computation and geographical distribution of data. Hence, it is necessary to combine different technologies to implement BPM systems. We argue that traditional BPM platforms are not sufficient for dynamic and adaptive business environment;and a new paradigm on BPM needs to exist-the one we proposed in this paper is called business Process Meta Management (BPMM). On the other hand, computational Grids are emerging as an infrastructure for next generation business computing, enabling distributed resource management, and large-scale computational problems in science, engineering and commerce. In this paper, we introduce a framework for BPMM based upon business Process Grid services that are built on top of Grid services. business Process Grid services are used to provide uniform, robust, scalable and flexible access to highly diversified business processes and business systems. In this paper, a watermark scheme for detecting and recovering the tampering of speech signal is proposed. We embed an approximate version of the origin information into the less significant bits (LSBs). When the watermarked signal is tampered, we can localize the tampered area and exclude from the area, recovery the original one from the approximate version. Based the embedded information, we estimate the origin signal by solving a liner equation with Least Square QR-factorization (LSQR) method. The result of an informal listening test shows that 83.7% listening material is intelligible after recovery with 20% part tampered. © 2016 IEEE.

Predicting the performance of parallel applications at scale is a challenging problem. We have developed a performance prediction model for structured grid-based scientific applications for High Performance computing systems. Our model can capture the system complexity and consider computation and communication attributes of application performance on HPC architectures. We have also proposed a methodology for obtaining the realistic value of the model parameters by small-scale sample runs of an application on the target system. We have used our model to predict the performance of an actual application (2D Flood Simulation) and a synthetic application (Game of Life) on the Summit supercomputer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Stampede2 at Texas Advanced computing Center. The experimental results indicate that our model's predictive performance is acceptable, and our model was able to predict the performance of these two applications on Summit and Stampede2 with more than 90% accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

The edge computing architecture exposes data transmission and storage to unauthorized access, compromising data integrity. Users typically employ multiple data backups to ensure data reliability and availability, enhancing data redundancy and recovery capabilities. Nevertheless, verifying the integrity of multiple backup data under edge computing entails computational and communication overhead. In response, we present a parallel and batch multiple replica auditing protocol tailored for edge computing. Contributions include an efficient multiple replica construction method based on RSA, minimizing computational overhead, and a parallel data integrity verification approach that reduces communication overhead. A prototype implementation is evaluated in a real edge computing environment and compared to existing multiple replica auditing approaches. © 2023 IEEE.

Task scheduling has been proven to be NP-hard problem and we can usually approximate the best solutions with some classical algorithm, such as Heterogeneous Earliest Finish Time(HEFT), Genetic Algorithm. However, the huge types of scheduling problems and the small number of generally acknowledged methods mean that more methods are needed. In this paper, we propose a new method to schedule the execution of a group of dependent tasks for heterogeneous computing environments. The algorithm consists of two elements: An intelligent approach to assign the execution orders of tasks by task level, and an allocation algorithm based on chemical-reaction-inspired metaheuristic called Chemical Reaction Optimization (CRO) to map processors to tasks. The experiments show that the CRO-based algorithm performs consistently better than HEFT and Critical Path On a Processor (CPOP) without incurring much computational cost. Multiple runs of the algorithm can further improve the search result. © 2012 IEEE.
